Terror Strike in Kulgam: Chhattisgarh Labourer Killed, Another Critically Injured at Brick Kiln
Fresh violence rocked south Kashmir on Friday evening when suspected terrorists allegedly opened fire on two migrant labourers employed at a brick kiln in the Kelam locality of Kulgam district.
The assault left one worker dead and another battling serious injuries, prompting an immediate security response in the area.
According to officials, the gunmen singled out the two non-local labourers while they were at work at the brick kiln. Both victims were rushed from the scene for emergency medical treatment soon after the shooting.
One of the victims, identified as Deepak, a native of Chhattisgarh, succumbed to his injuries before he could be shifted for specialised treatment and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
The second labourer, Bhopinder, sustained critical gunshot injuries and was referred to the Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, for advanced medical care.
Preliminary information indicates that the attackers deliberately targeted migrant workers employed in the Kelam area of Kulgam, once again raising concerns over the safety of non-local labourers working in the Kashmir Valley.
Soon after the incident, police and other security personnel reached the crime scene, sealed the surrounding area and initiated a massive search operation to trace those responsible for the attack.
Security forces continued combing the locality late into the night in an effort to locate the assailants.
The latest act of terror has occurred within days of another militant attack in south Kashmir, in which a police officer was shot dead in Anantnag town, underlining the continuing security challenges in the region.

दक्षिण कश्मीर के कुलगाम जिले में शुक्रवार शाम आतंकियों ने एक बार फिर गैर-स्थानीय मजदूरों को निशाना बनाया। केलम क्षेत्र स्थित एक ईंट-भट्ठे पर हुए हमले में छत्तीसगढ़ के एक श्रमिक की मौत हो गई, जबकि दूसरा गंभीर रूप से घायल हो गया।
घटना के बाद पूरे इलाके में सुरक्षा व्यवस्था कड़ी कर दी गई और व्यापक तलाशी अभियान शुरू कर दिया गया।
प्रारंभिक जानकारी के अनुसार, हथियारबंद हमलावरों ने ईंट-भट्ठे पर काम कर रहे दो प्रवासी मजदूरों पर अचानक गोलियां चला दीं।
गोलीबारी के तुरंत बाद दोनों घायलों को घटनास्थल से निकालकर उपचार के लिए अस्पताल पहुंचाया गया।
मृतक की पहचान छत्तीसगढ़ निवासी दीपक के रूप में हुई है। अस्पताल पहुंचने से पहले ही उसने दम तोड़ दिया और चिकित्सकों ने उसे मृत घोषित कर दिया।
दूसरे घायल मजदूर भोपिंदर को गंभीर गोली लगने के कारण प्राथमिक उपचार के बाद बेहतर इलाज के लिए सरकारी मेडिकल कॉलेज (जीएमसी), अनंतनाग रेफर किया गया, जहां उसकी हालत गंभीर बताई जा रही है।
प्रारंभिक जांच से संकेत मिले हैं कि हमलावरों ने जानबूझकर कुलगाम के केलम इलाके में कार्यरत गैर-स्थानीय श्रमिकों को निशाना बनाया।
इस घटना ने घाटी में काम कर रहे प्रवासी मजदूरों की सुरक्षा को लेकर एक बार फिर गंभीर सवाल खड़े कर दिए हैं।
वारदात की सूचना मिलते ही पुलिस और सुरक्षा बलों की टीमें मौके पर पहुंच गईं। पूरे क्षेत्र की घेराबंदी कर हमलावरों की तलाश में व्यापक सर्च ऑपरेशन शुरू किया गया, जो देर रात तक जारी रहा।
यह हमला ऐसे समय हुआ है जब कुछ ही दिन पहले दक्षिण कश्मीर के अनंतनाग शहर में आतंकियों ने एक पुलिस अधिकारी की गोली मारकर हत्या कर दी थी।
लगातार सामने आ रही ऐसी घटनाओं ने क्षेत्र की सुरक्षा स्थिति को लेकर चिंता और बढ़ा दी है।
