Washington, D.C.: US President Donald Trump used the celebrations marking America’s 250th anniversary to deliver a speech that combined patriotic themes with a sharp political message.

Speaking about domestic politics, Trump devoted a significant portion of his remarks to what he described as the growing influence of communist ideology in the United States.

In Philadelphia, the annual Fourth of July Parade was cancelled because of extreme heat, while organisers in Washington, D.C. temporarily closed the Great American State Fair on the National Mall during the afternoon as a safety precaution.

Delivered on the eve of the official anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Trump’s address blended historical reflection with campaign messaging.
