Trump Signals Possible Major Military Escalation Against Iran as Tensions Push Global Oil Prices Higher
Washington: As hostilities between the United States and Iran entered their twelfth day, President Donald Trump indicated that his administration is actively evaluating the possibility of a significantly larger military operation.
While no final decision has been announced, the President suggested that any future action could surpass the scale of previous American strikes, including those carried out during Operation Epic Fury, raising concerns over a wider regional conflict.
During an interview with Axios on Thursday, Trump declined to specify when a decision would be made but conveyed that the option of a major offensive remained under serious consideration.
His remarks came amid growing domestic debate over the financial and political consequences of continued military engagement in the Middle East.
Emphasising that military preparations were already in place, Trump said his administration was examining the possibility of launching an unprecedented attack against Iran.
Although he stressed that no final order had been issued, the President remarked that he was close to making a decision.
At the same time, two senior US officials told Axios that no formal directive had yet been given to the armed forces and that military plans had not been activated.
The prospect of a broader conflict has already rattled global markets. According to the report, crude oil prices have climbed above the 100-dollar-per-barrel mark as investors react to mounting geopolitical uncertainty.
Public opinion within the United States also remains cautious, with large-scale military involvement reportedly lacking widespread domestic support.
Commenting on Israel’s possible role in any expanded operation, Trump cautioned that the country could face retaliatory action if it joined future strikes.
He warned that Iranian countermeasures against Israel remained a significant strategic concern should the conflict widen further.
Addressing diplomatic efforts, the US President stated that Tehran continues to signal an interest in negotiations but has yet to demonstrate readiness for a comprehensive agreement.
In his assessment, Iran has not experienced sufficient pressure to compel it to accept the terms currently under discussion.
Officials familiar with regional mediation initiatives told Axios that the Iranian leadership has so far declined the latest proposal presented during indirect negotiations.
One source indicated that diplomatic contacts remain open, although progress has been limited because of what was described as Iran’s unwillingness to cooperate fully.
Military activity in the region has intensified considerably over the past twelve days.
The United States has expanded its operations with the stated objective of preventing Iranian attacks on commercial shipping passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Despite those efforts, Iran has continued its military operations and reportedly stepped up attacks across the region.
Adding another dimension to the crisis, Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen have reportedly begun targeting Saudi vessels navigating the Red Sea.
The development has heightened concerns over the security of another vital international shipping corridor, further increasing anxiety in global energy markets already affected by instability in the Gulf.
In a separate message posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump warned that any future attacks by the Houthis would be viewed as actions carried out on behalf of Iran.
He declared that Washington would hold Tehran directly responsible, arguing that the Houthis function as an Iranian proxy, and warned that both Iran and the rebel group would face a strong military response if such attacks continued.
Turning to diplomatic relations with Israel, Trump said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to travel to Washington next week to attend the wake of late Senator Lindsey Graham.
The President added that he intends to meet Netanyahu if both are in the capital, describing bilateral ties between the two leaders as cordial and constructive.

गुरुवार को एक्सियोस को दिए एक साक्षात्कार में ट्रंप ने निर्णय की कोई समय-सीमा बताने से इनकार किया, लेकिन उनके बयान से स्पष्ट संकेत मिला कि व्हाइट हाउस के भीतर इस विषय पर गंभीर मंथन चल रहा है।

दूसरी ओर, दो वरिष्ठ अमेरिकी अधिकारियों ने एक्सियोस को बताया कि अब तक सेना को कोई नया निर्देश नहीं दिया गया है और किसी सैन्य अभियान को औपचारिक मंजूरी नहीं मिली है।
संभावित युद्ध विस्तार की आशंकाओं का असर वैश्विक अर्थव्यवस्था पर भी दिखाई देने लगा है। रिपोर्ट के अनुसार अंतरराष्ट्रीय बाजार में कच्चे तेल की कीमतें 100 डॉलर प्रति बैरल के पार पहुंच गई हैं।
वहीं, अमेरिका के भीतर भी पूर्ण पैमाने पर युद्ध में शामिल होने के पक्ष में व्यापक जनसमर्थन नहीं होने की बात सामने आई है।
इजराइल की संभावित भागीदारी पर टिप्पणी करते हुए ट्रंप ने कहा कि यदि वह भविष्य में होने वाली सैन्य कार्रवाई में शामिल होता है तो उसे ईरान की ओर से जवाबी हमलों का सामना करना पड़ सकता है।
उन्होंने इसे क्षेत्रीय सुरक्षा के लिए एक गंभीर जोखिम बताया।
कूटनीतिक प्रयासों का उल्लेख करते हुए अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति ने कहा कि ईरान बातचीत की इच्छा तो जता रहा है, लेकिन अभी किसी समझौते पर पहुंचने के लिए तैयार नहीं दिख रहा। उनके अनुसार तेहरान पर अब तक इतना दबाव नहीं बना है कि वह मौजूदा प्रस्तावों को स्वीकार कर ले।
मध्यस्थता प्रयासों से जुड़े क्षेत्रीय सूत्रों ने एक्सियोस को बताया कि ईरानी नेतृत्व ने अब तक मेज पर रखे गए नवीनतम प्रस्ताव को स्वीकार नहीं किया है।
सूत्रों के अनुसार संपर्क बना हुआ है, लेकिन ईरान की ओर से अपेक्षित सहयोग नहीं मिल पाने के कारण वार्ता में ठोस प्रगति नहीं हो सकी है।
बीते बारह दिनों के दौरान क्षेत्र में सैन्य गतिविधियां लगातार तेज हुई हैं। अमेरिका ने होर्मुज जलडमरूमध्य से गुजरने वाले वाणिज्यिक जहाजों पर कथित ईरानी हमलों को रोकने के उद्देश्य से अपने सैन्य अभियान का विस्तार किया है।
इसके बावजूद ईरान पीछे हटने के संकेत नहीं दे रहा और उसने क्षेत्र में अपनी सैन्य गतिविधियां और बढ़ा दी हैं।
इसी बीच, ईरान समर्थित यमन के हूती विद्रोहियों द्वारा लाल सागर में सऊदी अरब के जहाजों को निशाना बनाए जाने की खबरों ने संकट को और गहरा कर दिया है।
इससे वैश्विक तेल आपूर्ति के एक अन्य महत्वपूर्ण समुद्री मार्ग की सुरक्षा को लेकर चिंता बढ़ गई है और अंतरराष्ट्रीय ऊर्जा बाजार में अस्थिरता और तेज हो गई है।
अपने सोशल मीडिया मंच ट्रुथ सोशल पर ट्रंप ने चेतावनी दी कि यदि हूती विद्रोही भविष्य में फिर कोई हमला करते हैं तो उसकी पूरी जिम्मेदारी ईरान पर डाली जाएगी।
उन्होंने कहा कि हूती संगठन ईरान के प्रतिनिधि के रूप में कार्य करता है और ऐसे किसी भी हमले की स्थिति में ईरान तथा हूती दोनों को कड़े सैन्य परिणाम भुगतने होंगे।
इजराइल के साथ संबंधों पर बोलते हुए ट्रंप ने कहा कि प्रधानमंत्री बेंजामिन नेतन्याहू अगले सप्ताह वॉशिंगटन में दिवंगत सीनेटर लिंडसे ग्राहम के अंतिम श्रद्धांजलि कार्यक्रम में शामिल हो सकते हैं।
उन्होंने कहा कि यदि दोनों राजधानी में मौजूद रहे तो उनकी मुलाकात होगी। ट्रंप ने नेतन्याहू के साथ अपने संबंधों को मजबूत और सकारात्मक बताया।
