Rahul Gandhi Rules Out NEET Debate in Lok Sabha Until Dharmendra Pradhan Steps Down
New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Friday made it clear that the Opposition would not participate in any discussion on the alleged NEET paper leak inside Parliament unless Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns from his post.
He asserted that the demand for the minister’s removal remained the Opposition’s foremost condition before any debate could take place.
His remarks came shortly after proceedings in the Lok Sabha were adjourned amid noisy scenes, with Opposition members raising slogans despite the government’s offer to discuss examination paper leaks.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju had informed the House that the Centre was prepared to debate the issue, but the announcement failed to calm the protesting Opposition benches.
During his intervention in the House, Rijiju referred to social activist Sonam Wangchuk ending his indefinite fast after Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured the nation through a video message that the government would take stringent measures to prevent future paper leaks.
Stressing the need for a meaningful parliamentary debate, the minister said avoiding discussion would send an inappropriate message.
He appealed to Rahul Gandhi to persuade Congress MPs to participate, noting that several other Opposition parties had also expressed their willingness to deliberate on the issue.
Responding to the developments outside Parliament, Rahul Gandhi alleged that he was denied the opportunity to answer Rijiju’s remarks despite being directly referred to during the minister’s speech.
Addressing reporters in the Parliament complex, he claimed that under normal parliamentary practice, a member whose name is mentioned should be allowed to respond, but said his microphone was switched off before he could speak.
Reaffirming the Opposition’s position, Gandhi said the agitation over the examination controversy was centred around three core demands raised by students.
According to him, the first requirement was the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, whom he accused of being responsible for the prevailing situation.
The Congress leader further demanded action against those allegedly involved in the use of force against protesting students, claiming that those responsible for assaulting demonstrators should be held accountable under the law.
As his third condition, Gandhi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should issue a public apology to students affected by the examination controversy.
He maintained that unless the Education Minister was removed from office, the Opposition would neither participate in any debate nor engage in discussions on the issue inside Parliament.

नई दिल्ली: लोकसभा में नेता प्रतिपक्ष राहुल गांधी ने शुक्रवार को स्पष्ट कर दिया कि जब तक केंद्रीय शिक्षा मंत्री धर्मेंद्र प्रधान अपने पद से इस्तीफा नहीं देते, तब तक विपक्ष संसद में कथित नीट पेपर लीक मामले पर किसी भी चर्चा में हिस्सा नहीं लेगा।
उन्होंने कहा कि मंत्री का इस्तीफा विपक्ष की पहली और सबसे महत्वपूर्ण शर्त है।
यह बयान उस समय आया जब लोकसभा की कार्यवाही हंगामे के बीच स्थगित कर दी गई।
इससे पहले संसदीय कार्य मंत्री किरेन रिजिजू ने सदन में घोषणा की थी कि सरकार परीक्षा प्रश्नपत्र लीक के मुद्दे पर चर्चा के लिए पूरी तरह तैयार है, लेकिन विपक्षी सदस्यों के लगातार नारेबाजी करने के कारण सदन की कार्यवाही बाधित हो गई।
सदन में बोलते हुए रिजिजू ने सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता सोनम वांगचुक के अनिश्चितकालीन अनशन समाप्त करने का उल्लेख किया।
उन्होंने कहा कि प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने वीडियो संदेश के माध्यम से देश को भरोसा दिलाया है कि भविष्य में पेपर लीक रोकने के लिए सख्त कानून बनाए जाएंगे।
उन्होंने कहा कि यदि संसद इस महत्वपूर्ण विषय पर चर्चा से बचती है तो देश में गलत संदेश जाएगा।
रिजिजू ने राहुल गांधी से अपील की कि वे कांग्रेस सांसदों को चर्चा में भाग लेने के लिए तैयार करें और कहा कि अन्य विपक्षी दल भी इस विषय पर बहस के पक्ष में हैं।
संसद परिसर में पत्रकारों से बातचीत करते हुए राहुल गांधी ने आरोप लगाया कि संसदीय परंपरा का पालन नहीं किया गया।
उन्होंने कहा कि जब किसी सदस्य का नाम सदन में लिया जाता है तो उसे जवाब देने का अवसर दिया जाता है, लेकिन उन्हें बोलने नहीं दिया गया और उनका माइक्रोफोन बंद कर दिया गया।
उनके अनुसार, सरकार चर्चा की बात तो कर रही थी, लेकिन विपक्ष को अपनी बात रखने का अवसर नहीं दिया गया।
विपक्ष का रुख दोहराते हुए राहुल गांधी ने कहा कि छात्र आंदोलन तीन प्रमुख मांगों पर आधारित है।
उन्होंने कहा कि पहली और सबसे महत्वपूर्ण मांग शिक्षा मंत्री धर्मेंद्र प्रधान को पद से हटाने की है, क्योंकि विपक्ष उन्हें पूरे विवाद के लिए जिम्मेदार मानता है।
उन्होंने दूसरी मांग के रूप में उन लोगों के खिलाफ कड़ी कार्रवाई की आवश्यकता बताई, जिन्होंने कथित तौर पर आंदोलन कर रहे छात्रों पर बल प्रयोग किया।
राहुल गांधी ने कहा कि छात्रों पर हमला करने वालों को कानून के अनुसार जवाबदेह बनाया जाना चाहिए।
तीसरी मांग का उल्लेख करते हुए कांग्रेस नेता ने कहा कि प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी को परीक्षा विवाद से प्रभावित छात्रों से सार्वजनिक रूप से माफी मांगनी चाहिए।
उन्होंने दोहराया कि जब तक धर्मेंद्र प्रधान को पद से नहीं हटाया जाता, तब तक विपक्ष न तो सदन में इस मुद्दे पर चर्चा करेगा और न ही किसी प्रकार की वार्ता में भाग लेगा।
