TV Actor Rohit Chandel Arrested in Mumbai Under the POCSO Act for Alleged Stalking and Assault of a Minor Girl
Mumbai: A television actor known for his appearances in popular Hindi serials has landed in legal trouble after Mumbai Police arrested him over allegations of stalking and assaulting a 16-year-old girl.
The accused, identified as Rohit Chandel, was taken into custody on Friday following a complaint lodged by the teenager in Mumbai’s eastern suburbs.
The 29-year-old actor has been part of television shows including Kashibai Bajirao Ballal and Pandya Store.
After his arrest, he was presented before a local court, which sent him to judicial custody while the investigation continues.
Police have booked Chandel under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act along with relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) dealing with stalking and voluntarily causing hurt.
Investigators said the allegations involve both repeated harassment and physical assault.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the actor and the minor girl were acquainted with each other. The complaint alleges that he repeatedly contacted the teenager over the phone.
When she allegedly stopped responding to his calls, he is accused of using multiple phone numbers in an attempt to continue communicating with her.
Investigators further stated that the alleged incident escalated on July 5, when Chandel reportedly confronted the girl near her residence.
Police claim that an argument broke out, during which he allegedly shouted at her, followed her, and physically assaulted her before leaving the spot.
Following the incident, the teenager approached the local police station and filed a formal complaint.
Based on her statement, police registered an FIR and initiated legal proceedings against the actor.
Officials said the investigation is still at an early stage. Police teams are collecting CCTV footage from the area where the alleged confrontation took place to verify the sequence of events.
The victim’s detailed statement will also be recorded, and investigators say further action will depend on the evidence gathered during the probe.
As the case is under investigation, authorities have not disclosed additional details regarding the evidence collected so far.
Police have indicated that the inquiry will continue in accordance with legal procedures before any further decisions are taken.

29 वर्षीय रोहित चंदेल काशीबाई बाजीराव बल्लाल और पांड्या स्टोर जैसे चर्चित टीवी धारावाहिकों में नजर आ चुके हैं। गिरफ्तारी के बाद उन्हें स्थानीय अदालत में पेश किया गया, जहां से अदालत ने उन्हें न्यायिक हिरासत में भेज दिया।
पुलिस ने अभिनेता के खिलाफ यौन अपराधों से बच्चों का संरक्षण (POCSO) अधिनियम के अलावा भारतीय न्याय संहिता (BNS) की पीछा करने (स्टॉकिंग) और स्वेच्छा से चोट पहुंचाने से संबंधित धाराओं के तहत मामला दर्ज किया है।
अधिकारियों का कहना है कि शिकायत में लगातार उत्पीड़न और शारीरिक हमला करने के आरोप शामिल हैं।
एफआईआर के अनुसार, रोहित चंदेल और नाबालिग लड़की एक-दूसरे को पहले से जानते थे। शिकायत में आरोप लगाया गया है कि अभिनेता लगातार उसे फोन करते रहे।
जब किशोरी ने कथित तौर पर उनके कॉल उठाना बंद कर दिया, तो उन्होंने अलग-अलग मोबाइल नंबरों से संपर्क करने की कोशिश की।
पुलिस के मुताबिक, 5 जुलाई को मामला उस समय गंभीर हो गया जब अभिनेता ने कथित रूप से लड़की के घर के पास उसका रास्ता रोक लिया। आरोप है कि दोनों के बीच कहासुनी हुई, जिसके बाद उन्होंने ऊंची आवाज में बहस की, उसका पीछा किया और उसके साथ मारपीट की।
घटना के बाद पीड़िता स्थानीय पुलिस थाने पहुंची और औपचारिक शिकायत दर्ज कराई। शिकायत के आधार पर पुलिस ने एफआईआर दर्ज कर अभिनेता के खिलाफ कानूनी कार्रवाई शुरू कर दी।
जांच अधिकारी अब उस इलाके के सीसीटीवी कैमरों की फुटेज एकत्र कर रहे हैं जहां कथित घटना हुई थी, ताकि घटनाक्रम की पुष्टि की जा सके। साथ ही, पीड़िता का विस्तृत बयान भी दर्ज किया जाएगा, जिसके आधार पर आगे की जांच और कानूनी प्रक्रिया आगे बढ़ेगी।
पुलिस का कहना है कि मामले की जांच अभी जारी है और उपलब्ध साक्ष्यों के आधार पर आगे की कार्रवाई की जाएगी। फिलहाल जांच एजेंसियां सभी तथ्यों की पुष्टि करने में जुटी हैं और जांच पूरी होने के बाद ही मामले में अगला कदम उठाया जाएगा।
