UP Government to Recruit 21,508 Teachers and Instructors to Strengthen Basic Education System
In a major boost to the school education sector in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced the recruitment of 21,508 new teachers and instructors under the Basic Education Department.
The move is aimed at further strengthening the transformation and modernisation drive of the Basic Education Council schools across the state.
Acting on the Chief Minister’s announcement, the state government has already forwarded a requisition for the recruitment of 11,508 teachers to the Education Service Selection Commission in Prayagraj.
These appointments will primarily be made in urban areas where the need for additional teaching staff has been identified.
In addition to this, the Chief Minister also declared that 10,000 new instructors would be recruited for upper primary schools.
These instructors will help improve the student-teacher ratio and enhance the quality of education being imparted in government schools.
Notably, this will be the first large-scale teacher recruitment drive undertaken by the state government after the recruitment of 69,000 teachers carried out in 2018.
The Chief Minister made these announcements while addressing a felicitation ceremony organised by the Basic Education Department at the Lok Bhavan auditorium in Lucknow.
The event was held to honour 24,717 part-time instructors and distribute cheques reflecting their increased honorarium.
Speaking at the programme, the Chief Minister recalled that the appointment process for part-time instructors had originally begun during 2011-12 under the provisions of the Right to Education Act.
The initiative was launched to ensure free and compulsory education for children between the ages of 6 and 14 years.
At that time, instructors were given a monthly honorarium of ₹7,000. At present, the state has 8,469 instructors in art education, 9,645 in health and physical education, and 6,192 in work experience education, taking the total number of active instructors to 24,296.
The Chief Minister pointed out that from 2011-12 until 2022, there had been no increase in the honorarium paid to these instructors.
Referring to discussions held with the instructors’ federation in 2019, he said that he had personally sought a proposal regarding an increase in honorarium.
However, due to the announcement of elections and the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, the matter could not be finalised at that time.
He further stated that the government eventually approved an increase of ₹2,000 in 2022, but admitted that the administration itself was not fully satisfied with the revision.
The latest decision, he indicated, reflects the government’s commitment to improving the working conditions and morale of instructors who play an important role in strengthening the state’s primary education system.
