UP Minister Sanjay Nishad Protests at KGMU Over Gonda Party Worker’s Death
Police say Vinod Sahani died from injuries caused by a stick assault; three accused arrested and three policemen suspended over alleged dereliction of duty.
Lucknow witnessed a late-evening political protest on Thursday after Sanjay Nishad, Uttar Pradesh Cabinet minister and president of the Nishad Party, reached the KGMU mortuary over the death of party worker Vinod Sahani, who died while undergoing treatment.
The protest followed Sahani’s death at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), where he had been admitted after sustaining serious injuries in an assault in Gonda.
Nishad demanded swift action in the case and raised questions over the handling of the incident by the local administration.
The police account, however, differs from the initial allegation made by the minister.
While Nishad claimed Sahani had been attacked with bullets and knives, Gonda Police said the post-mortem found no firearm injury or wound caused by a sharp-edged weapon.
According to Gonda Superintendent of Police Abhishek, the medical examination established that Sahani died because of injuries sustained in the assault.
Police said he had allegedly been beaten with sticks late Wednesday evening before being taken to KGMU in Lucknow, where he died the following day.
The case has already led to arrests and departmental action.
Police said three named suspects have been arrested, while the Station House Officer of Parsapur police station, the officer in charge of the Shahpur outpost and a constable have been suspended for alleged negligence in the discharge of their duties.
The sequence of events began with a complaint filed by Sahani on September 9, police said.
An FIR was subsequently registered; he underwent a medical examination and was later referred to KGMU for specialised treatment.
Police said investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the assault and have added relevant legal provisions to the FIR following Sahani’s death.
Additional teams have been assigned to locate those who remain at large.
The alleged motive is also under investigation.
Police said the arrested suspects claimed during questioning that Sahani had posted material on social media that they considered objectionable and communal, including content concerning Hindu deities and saints.
The SP said a group of local people allegedly confronted Sahani while he was returning home from his shop and assaulted him with sticks. The police officer said the accused arrested in the case belong to the upper caste.
Nishad, meanwhile, identified the deceased as a member of the Nishad community and demanded measures extending beyond the arrests already made.
He called for action against police personnel whom he accused of failing to provide adequate security and justice, along with protection and a government job for Sahani’s family.
His protest also carried a broader political message.
Nishad accused the administration of failing to adequately protect members of his community and referred to what he described as previous instances in which Nishad community members were allegedly labelled criminals and killed in encounters.
Speaking at the KGMU mortuary, Nishad condemned the killing and cautioned the administration against viewing the matter through the prism of caste.
He asserted that criminality should not be associated with any particular community.
He also demanded stringent action against the accused, including encounter action and demolition of allegedly illegal properties, while calling for immediate justice for the victim’s family.
Nishad warned that the agitation would grow if all those accused were not apprehended.
He said supporters from different parts of Uttar Pradesh would join a protest against the administration and indicated that the demonstration would continue until the party believed justice had been secured.
The protest soon drew opposition support.
Samajwadi Party leader Rajpal Kashyap joined Nishad at the mortuary and raised slogans targeting the police and administration.
Kashyap alleged that the episode reflected discriminatory treatment of the Kashyap, Mallah and Nishad communities.
He argued that the government’s response would have been different had the accused belonged to another social group.
He further questioned how action could be delayed when a serving Cabinet minister was himself present at a protest demanding justice.
The Samajwadi Party leader said his party would continue raising issues concerning these communities.
VIP Party president Mukesh Sahni also reached the KGMU mortuary and joined the protest. He backed the demand for justice and called for support for Sahani’s family.
The developments have put both the alleged assault and the police response under scrutiny.
While investigators have proceeded with arrests and departmental action, the circumstances surrounding the attack, the motive, and the role of other alleged accused remain under investigation.

पुलिस का दावा- लाठी से पिटाई में लगी चोटों से हुई विनोद सहानी की मौत; तीन पुलिसकर्मी निलंबित, बाकी आरोपियों की तलाश जारी
लखनऊ के किंग जॉर्ज मेडिकल यूनिवर्सिटी (KGMU) में गुरुवार देर शाम उस समय राजनीतिक हलचल बढ़ गई, जब उत्तर प्रदेश के कैबिनेट मंत्री और निषाद पार्टी प्रमुख संजय निषाद पार्टी कार्यकर्ता विनोद सहानी की मौत के बाद धरने पर बैठ गए।
सहानी की मौत KGMU में इलाज के दौरान हुई थी। उन्हें गोंडा में कथित हमले के बाद गंभीर हालत में अस्पताल लाया गया था।
मौत के बाद मंत्री ने आरोपियों की तत्काल गिरफ्तारी और पीड़ित परिवार को न्याय दिलाने की मांग को लेकर प्रशासन के खिलाफ विरोध जताया।
मामले में पुलिस और मंत्री के शुरुआती बयानों के बीच अंतर सामने आया है। संजय निषाद ने दावा किया था कि सहानी पर गोली और चाकू से हमला किया गया।
दूसरी ओर, गोंडा पुलिस ने पोस्टमार्टम रिपोर्ट के आधार पर कहा कि शरीर पर न तो गोली लगने का निशान मिला और न ही किसी धारदार हथियार से लगी चोट।
गोंडा के पुलिस अधीक्षक अभिषेक के अनुसार, पोस्टमार्टम में मौत की वजह हमले से आई चोटें सामने आई हैं।
पुलिस का कहना है कि बुधवार देर शाम सहानी को कथित तौर पर लाठियों से पीटा गया था। गंभीर स्थिति में उन्हें लखनऊ के KGMU ले जाया गया, जहां गुरुवार को उनकी मौत हो गई।
घटना के बाद पुलिस कार्रवाई भी शुरू हो चुकी है। मामले में तीन नामजद आरोपियों को गिरफ्तार किया गया है।
इसके अलावा पारसपुर थाना प्रभारी, शाहपुर चौकी प्रभारी और एक कांस्टेबल को ड्यूटी में लापरवाही के आरोप में निलंबित कर दिया गया है। इनके खिलाफ विभागीय कार्रवाई भी शुरू की गई है।
पुलिस के मुताबिक, सहानी ने 9 सितंबर को शिकायत दर्ज कराई थी, जिसके आधार पर FIR दर्ज की गई थी। उनका चिकित्सकीय परीक्षण कराया गया और बाद में बेहतर उपचार के लिए KGMU रेफर किया गया।
सहानी की मौत के बाद पुलिस ने FIR में संबंधित धाराएं बढ़ा दी हैं। बाकी आरोपियों की गिरफ्तारी के लिए अलग-अलग पुलिस टीमें बनाई गई हैं और उनकी तलाश की जा रही है।
जांच में कथित हमले की वजह को लेकर भी पुलिस ने एक प्रारंभिक जानकारी साझा की है।
पुलिस के अनुसार, गिरफ्तार आरोपियों ने पूछताछ में दावा किया कि सहानी सोशल मीडिया पर हिंदू देवी-देवताओं और संतों को लेकर कथित तौर पर आपत्तिजनक और सांप्रदायिक सामग्री पोस्ट करते थे।
पुलिस के मुताबिक, इसी को लेकर कुछ स्थानीय लोग नाराज थे और दुकान से घर लौटते समय सहानी को कथित तौर पर घेरकर लाठियों से पीटा गया। एसपी ने बताया कि गिरफ्तार आरोपियों में ऊंची जाति से जुड़े लोग शामिल हैं।
वहीं, संजय निषाद ने मृतक की पहचान निषाद समुदाय के सदस्य के रूप में की।
उन्होंने आरोपियों की गिरफ्तारी के साथ उन पुलिसकर्मियों के खिलाफ भी कार्रवाई की मांग की, जिन पर उन्होंने मामले में उचित कार्रवाई न करने का आरोप लगाया।
मंत्री ने पीड़ित परिवार को सुरक्षा और सरकारी नौकरी देने की मांग भी उठाई।
KGMU में अपने प्रदर्शन के दौरान निषाद ने घटना की कड़ी निंदा की और प्रशासन को चेतावनी दी कि अपराध को किसी जाति से जोड़कर नहीं देखा जाना चाहिए।
उन्होंने अपने समुदाय के लोगों के साथ पहले भी आपराधिक मामलों और कथित एनकाउंटर के नाम पर अन्याय होने का आरोप लगाया।
मंत्री ने आरोपियों के खिलाफ बेहद सख्त कार्रवाई की मांग करते हुए एनकाउंटर और कथित अवैध संपत्तियों पर बुलडोजर कार्रवाई की बात कही। उन्होंने पीड़ित परिवार को जल्द न्याय दिलाने की मांग भी दोहराई।
निषाद ने चेतावनी दी कि यदि सभी आरोपियों को गिरफ्तार नहीं किया गया तो आंदोलन को और व्यापक किया जाएगा।
उन्होंने कहा कि उत्तर प्रदेश के अलग-अलग हिस्सों से लोग प्रशासन के खिलाफ प्रदर्शन के लिए आएंगे और न्याय मिलने तक धरना जारी रखने की बात कही।
मामले को राजनीतिक समर्थन भी मिला। समाजवादी पार्टी के नेता राजपाल कश्यप KGMU में संजय निषाद के साथ धरने में शामिल हुए।
उन्होंने पुलिस और प्रशासन के खिलाफ नारे लगाए और सरकार पर समुदाय के साथ भेदभावपूर्ण रवैया अपनाने का आरोप लगाया।
कश्यप ने कहा कि कश्यप, मल्लाह और निषाद समाज से जुड़े मुद्दों को समाजवादी पार्टी लगातार उठाती रही है और आगे भी उठाती रहेगी।
उन्होंने आरोप लगाया कि यदि आरोपी किसी दूसरे समुदाय से होते तो सरकार की कार्रवाई अलग होती।
उन्होंने यह सवाल भी उठाया कि जब एक कैबिनेट मंत्री स्वयं धरने पर बैठे हैं, तब भी प्रशासन की ओर से पर्याप्त कार्रवाई क्यों नहीं हो रही है।
हालांकि, ये आरोप राजनीतिक नेताओं के हैं और मामले में पुलिस की जांच अभी जारी है।
VIP पार्टी प्रमुख मुकेश सहनी भी KGMU पहुंचे और संजय निषाद तथा राजपाल कश्यप के साथ धरने में शामिल हुए। उन्होंने मृतक के परिवार के लिए न्याय की मांग का समर्थन किया।
फिलहाल पुलिस ने तीन आरोपियों को गिरफ्तार कर लिया है और तीन पुलिसकर्मियों पर विभागीय कार्रवाई शुरू की गई है।
मामले में बाकी आरोपियों की तलाश के साथ हमले की पूरी परिस्थितियों और कथित विवाद की वजह की जांच जारी है।
