UP Police Shoot Dead Two Wanted Criminals After Dramatic Chase in Firozabad; Child Rescued, Two Constables Injured

A routine police mission to apprehend two wanted criminals spiralled into a dramatic daylight chase involving a child allegedly taken hostage, heavy gunfire, injuries to two policemen, and the deaths of both accused in separate encounters in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad district on Friday.

Law enforcement officials said the two suspects, both wanted in robbery and chain-snatching cases, were travelling on a train from Ghaziabad to Jharkhand, which was scheduled to stop at Shikohabad railway station.

Acting on specific intelligence, an Etawah police team travelled nearly 81 kilometres to the station and positioned personnel to intercept the duo upon arrival.

As officers entered the train in search of the suspects, the two men reportedly slipped off the train and attempted to escape.

What unfolded moments later turned the railway station area into the scene of a high-voltage police operation.

Investigators said one of the fleeing accused allegedly seized a nine-year-old schoolboy who was returning home and pressed a pistol against the child’s head.

According to police, the suspects used the frightened child as a human shield while firing at the pursuing officers in an effort to prevent their arrest.

Authorities said the child was eventually released unharmed. The two men then allegedly snatched a motorcycle from a passer-by and sped away, continuing to open fire during their escape.

During the exchange of gunfire, Constable David Chauhan sustained a bullet injury to his abdomen.

Police teams immediately launched a high-speed pursuit on motorcycles.

After covering some distance, the suspects abandoned the stolen vehicle and fled in separate directions to evade capture, prompting the pursuing officers to divide into two groups.

One police team tracked Sumit Yadav alias Vivek, who allegedly opened fire on the officers.

Police retaliated, during which Sumit suffered bullet injuries. He was taken for medical treatment but later succumbed to his injuries, officials said.

Meanwhile, the second accused, Ankit alias Seepu, escaped into nearby agricultural fields. Officers chased him for nearly two kilometres before reinforcement teams from the Firozabad Police joined the operation.

Police alleged that Ankit also fired at the pursuing personnel, leaving Constable Pushpendra Chaudhary with a gunshot wound to his shoulder.

Despite the injury to their colleague, the combined police teams continued the operation and eventually surrounded the accused in the fields.

A fresh exchange of fire followed, during which Ankit sustained gunshot wounds. He, too, later died while undergoing treatment, police said.

Additional Director General of Police (Agra Zone) S.K. Bhagat, who inspected the scene after the incident, said the encounter occurred in broad daylight after police tracked the wanted criminals based on credible intelligence.

He stated that the suspects allegedly held a child at gunpoint while attempting to escape from the police.

Police identified the deceased as Sumit Yadav alias Vivek, a resident of Lucknow, and Ankit alias Seepu, a native of Etawah.

Both men were in their twenties and carried cash rewards of ₹25,000 each for their arrest.

According to official records, Sumit had 26 criminal cases registered against him, while Ankit faced three criminal cases.

Police said Ankit was wanted in connection with a chain-snatching case registered at Ekdil police station on July 3, whereas Sumit was wanted in a robbery case registered at Chaubia police station.

Both injured constables, David Chauhan and Pushpendra Chaudhary of the Etawah Police, remain admitted to the hospital and are undergoing treatment. Their condition is being closely monitored, officials said.

उत्तर प्रदेश के फिरोजाबाद जिले में शुक्रवार को दो वांछित बदमाशों की गिरफ्तारी के लिए शुरू किया गया पुलिस अभियान कुछ ही देर में बेहद नाटकीय घटनाक्रम में बदल गया।

पुलिस के अनुसार, आरोपियों ने कथित रूप से एक नौ वर्षीय बच्चे को पिस्तौल की नोक पर बंधक बना लिया, पुलिस पर फायरिंग की, दो सिपाहियों को गोली लगी और अंततः दोनों अलग-अलग मुठभेड़ों में मारे गए।

पुलिस अधिकारियों ने बताया कि दोनों आरोपी लूट और चेन स्नैचिंग के मामलों में वांछित थे तथा गाजियाबाद से झारखंड जाने वाली ट्रेन से यात्रा कर रहे थे, जिसका शिकोहाबाद रेलवे स्टेशन पर ठहराव निर्धारित था।

सटीक सूचना मिलने के बाद इटावा पुलिस की एक टीम करीब 81 किलोमीटर दूर शिकोहाबाद पहुंची और स्टेशन पर घेराबंदी कर दोनों को पकड़ने की तैयारी की।

जब पुलिसकर्मी ट्रेन के भीतर आरोपियों की तलाश कर रहे थे, तभी दोनों संदिग्ध ट्रेन से उतरकर भाग निकले। इसके बाद रेलवे स्टेशन के आसपास का इलाका कुछ ही क्षणों में तेज रफ्तार पीछा और गोलियों की आवाज से गूंज उठा।

जांच अधिकारियों के मुताबिक, भागते समय एक आरोपी ने स्कूल से घर लौट रहे नौ वर्षीय बच्चे को पकड़ लिया और उसकी कनपटी पर पिस्तौल तान दी।

पुलिस का आरोप है कि गिरफ्तारी से बचने के लिए दोनों बदमाशों ने बच्चे को मानव ढाल की तरह इस्तेमाल करते हुए पीछा कर रही पुलिस टीम पर गोलियां चलाईं।

पुलिस ने बताया कि कुछ देर बाद बच्चे को सुरक्षित छोड़ दिया गया। इसके बाद दोनों आरोपियों ने कथित रूप से एक राहगीर से मोटरसाइकिल छीन ली और उस पर सवार होकर भाग निकले। फरारी के दौरान भी उन्होंने फायरिंग जारी रखी, जिसमें सिपाही डेविड चौहान के पेट में गोली लग गई।

घायल साथी की परवाह किए बिना पुलिस टीमों ने मोटरसाइकिलों पर उनका पीछा जारी रखा। कुछ दूरी तय करने के बाद बदमाश चोरी की बाइक छोड़कर अलग-अलग दिशाओं में भाग निकले, जिसके बाद पुलिस ने भी दो टीमों में बंटकर उनका पीछा शुरू किया।

एक टीम ने सुमित यादव उर्फ विवेक का पीछा किया। पुलिस के अनुसार, उसने पुलिस पर गोलियां चलाईं, जिसके जवाब में हुई कार्रवाई में वह गोली लगने से घायल हो गया। उसे अस्पताल ले जाया गया, जहां चिकित्सकों ने उसे मृत घोषित कर दिया।

दूसरी ओर, अंकित उर्फ सीपू पास के खेतों की ओर भाग निकला। पुलिसकर्मियों ने करीब दो किलोमीटर तक उसका पीछा किया। इसी दौरान फिरोजाबाद पुलिस की अतिरिक्त टीम भी मौके पर पहुंच गई।

पुलिस का दावा है कि अंकित ने भी पुलिस पर फायरिंग की, जिसमें सिपाही पुष्पेंद्र चौधरी के कंधे में गोली लगी।

इसके बावजूद संयुक्त पुलिस बल ने अभियान जारी रखा और खेतों में आरोपी को चारों ओर से घेर लिया। इसके बाद हुई दूसरी मुठभेड़ में अंकित भी गोली लगने से घायल हो गया। उपचार के दौरान उसकी भी मृत्यु हो गई।

घटनास्थल का निरीक्षण करने पहुंचे अपर पुलिस महानिदेशक (आगरा जोन) एस.के. भगत ने बताया कि विश्वसनीय सूचना के आधार पर पुलिस ने दोनों वांछित अपराधियों का पीछा किया था।

उन्होंने कहा कि गिरफ्तारी से बचने के प्रयास में आरोपियों ने कथित रूप से एक मासूम बच्चे को पिस्तौल की नोक पर बंधक बना लिया था।

पुलिस के अनुसार, मारे गए आरोपियों की पहचान लखनऊ निवासी सुमित यादव उर्फ विवेक और इटावा निवासी अंकित उर्फ सीपू के रूप में हुई है। दोनों की उम्र करीब बीस वर्ष थी और प्रत्येक पर ₹25,000 का इनाम घोषित था।

आधिकारिक अभिलेखों के अनुसार, सुमित के खिलाफ 26 आपराधिक मुकदमे दर्ज थे, जबकि अंकित पर तीन मामले दर्ज थे।

पुलिस ने बताया कि अंकित 3 जुलाई को एकदिल थाने में दर्ज चेन स्नैचिंग के मामले में वांछित था, जबकि सुमित चौबिया थाने में दर्ज लूट के एक मामले में फरार चल रहा था।

घायल दोनों सिपाही—डेविड चौहान और पुष्पेंद्र चौधरी—का अस्पताल में इलाज जारी है। पुलिस अधिकारियों के अनुसार, दोनों की चिकित्सकीय निगरानी की जा रही है।
