UPSC introduces new UPSC Exam On Line Rules
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has introduced a new registration and online application module for the Civil Services Examination (CSE)-2025, replacing the previous Detailed Application Form (DAF)-I and DAF-II, Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced on Thursday.
The primary objective of this new system is to simplify the application process, enhance candidate convenience, and streamline the examination cycle, Singh stated.
The Civil Services Examination is conducted annually by the UPSC as per the rules notified by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT). Singh, who serves as the Minister of State for Personnel, confirmed the implementation of this new module in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
He highlighted that the revised system mandates candidates to submit essential information and supporting documents regarding their date of birth, reservation category, educational qualifications, and other relevant details along with the online application form.
According to the updated rules, failure to provide the necessary information or documents at the time of registration and application submission will result in the cancellation of the candidate’s application.
The Civil Services Examination consists of three stages—Preliminary, Main, and Interview—through which officers are selected for key services such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others.
In a separate response, Singh addressed the issue of optional subjects in the Civil Services (Main) Examination. He confirmed that medical science is currently included as one of the optional subjects. However, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has reviewed the possibility of adding new subjects, including pharmacy, and concluded that it is not feasible to incorporate additional optional subjects at this time.
Singh’s response was in reply to a question regarding the reasons behind the exclusion of pharmacy as an optional subject in the Civil Services Examination.
