Eight Villagers Allegedly Poisoned After Being Invited for Drinks, Survivor Exposed the Pattern
Chhattisgarh Serial Murder Case:
For nearly four months, a disturbing pattern went unnoticed in a small village in Chhattisgarh’s Baloda Bazar district.
One after another, eight men allegedly visited the home of 46-year-old Ramsahay Jaiswal for an evening drink and died within a day or two.
The suspected chain of murders came to light only after a ninth man survived and informed the authorities, leading investigators to suspect that they were dealing with a serial killer.
At first glance, Jaiswal appeared to lead an ordinary life in Kharve village. He lived with his wife and two children and operated a small general store in the area.
Neighbours saw him as a regular villager going about his daily routine.
However, according to the police investigation, Jaiswal allegedly harboured grudges against several people in the village.
Investigators claim that he believed one man had improper intentions toward his wife, another had repeatedly insulted him, while some others had disputes with him over personal matters or had allegedly made caste-related remarks against him.
On Monday, police arrested Jaiswal on charges of allegedly murdering eight people and attempting to kill another.
The Alleged Modus Operandi
Police said the accused first conducted what appeared to be a trial run earlier this year by allegedly poisoning a dog.
Investigators believe he used suhaga, commonly known as borax, a substance often used in villages as a rat poison or insecticide.
He allegedly purchased the chemical on three separate occasions over a period of four months.
After allegedly testing the substance on the dog, police believe he began mixing it with liquor and serving it to people he intended to target.
Investigators said Jaiswal would invite his victims to his house in the evening and make sure they arrived alone.
Once there, he allegedly offered them alcohol laced with the toxic substance.
According to police, all eight victims died within one or two days after consuming drinks at Jaiswal’s house.
In several cases, he allegedly accompanied the victims’ families to hospitals and even attended their funerals.
Because the deaths appeared natural and the victims developed symptoms suddenly, none of the families initially suspected foul play, investigators said.
In some instances, victims were not even taken to hospitals because their relatives did not consider the symptoms serious until it was too late.
How the Deaths Began
The first death occurred on February 6, when 58-year-old Badri Patel died. Police said Jaiswal allegedly had a minor dispute with Patel and accused him of verbally abusing him and frequently demanding liquor from him.
Investigators claim Jaiswal invited Patel for drinks and served him poisoned alcohol. Patel later died at home, and his family conducted his last rites without suspecting any criminal involvement.
Police believe that when Patel’s death attracted no attention, Jaiswal gained confidence and allegedly continued carrying out similar crimes.
A String of Deaths Over Four Months
The deaths that followed occurred in quick succession.
On February 20, 60-year-old Buthalu Sahu died. Police claim the accused was upset with him over alleged remarks about his Kalaar community.
On March 12, 60-year-old Budhram Jaiswal died. Investigators say there had been disputes over land between him and the accused.
Eight days later, on March 20, Chhattu Ram Sahu died. Police said Jaiswal allegedly suspected him of having an interest in his wife.
Vinod Kumar Sahu, aged 38, died on March 31. According to investigators, Jaiswal believed Vinod had repeatedly insulted him.
On April 28, 55-year-old Gajanand Manjhi also died. Police said the accused had allegedly suspected him of practising occult rituals against him.
The very next day, 58-year-old Chaituram Sahu died. Investigators claim Jaiswal had borrowed ₹50,000 from him and may have wanted to avoid repaying the debt.
The final death occurred on May 14, when 41-year-old Mahetru Ram Sahu died under similar circumstances. Police said the accused believed Mahetru frequently taunted him.
The Survivor Who Exposed the Pattern
According to investigators, on April 14, Jaiswal invited Kartik Kumhar, with whom he allegedly had an earlier dispute, to his home for drinks.
After returning home, Kumhar suddenly fell ill and had to be admitted to a hospital.
Before his condition worsened, Kumhar informed his family that he had consumed alcohol with Jaiswal shortly before becoming sick.
On June 6, his family and several villagers approached the police and expressed suspicion about Jaiswal’s possible involvement.
Investigation and Forensic Probe
Raipur Range Inspector General of Police Amresh Mishra said an inquiry was launched immediately after receiving the complaint.
“As part of the investigation, seven bodies were exhumed and sent to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital in Raipur for post-mortem examinations.
A special medico-legal team conducted autopsies, while DNA samples, viscera and other forensic evidence were preserved for scientific analysis,” he said.
Mishra said investigators thoroughly examined each death and continuously questioned villagers to reconstruct the sequence of events.
He added that while one team was gathering technical and forensic evidence, another was conducting extensive questioning and monitoring developments in the village.
Police have also identified the individuals who allegedly supplied Suhaga to Jaiswal. According to investigators, the accused had reportedly told them that he needed the substance to kill rats.

करीब चार महीने तक छत्तीसगढ़ के बलौदा बाजार जिले के एक छोटे से गांव में मौत का एक रहस्यमयी सिलसिला चलता रहा। एक के बाद एक आठ लोग कथित तौर पर 46 वर्षीय रामसहाय जायसवाल के घर शाम को शराब पीने गए और एक-दो दिन के भीतर उनकी मौत हो गई।
यह सिलसिला तब उजागर हुआ जब नौवां व्यक्ति जिंदा बच गया और उसने पुलिस को पूरी बात बताई। इसके बाद जांचकर्ताओं को शक हुआ कि वे एक संभावित सीरियल किलर के मामले से रूबरू हैं।
खरवे गांव में रहने वाला रामसहाय जायसवाल बाहर से एक सामान्य व्यक्ति दिखाई देता था। वह अपनी पत्नी और दो बच्चों के साथ रहता था और गांव में एक छोटी किराना दुकान चलाता था। पड़ोसियों की नजर में वह एक साधारण ग्रामीण की तरह ही अपना जीवन बिता रहा था।
लेकिन पुलिस जांच में एक अलग तस्वीर सामने आई। अधिकारियों के अनुसार, जायसवाल के मन में गांव के कई लोगों के प्रति गहरी नाराजगी और व्यक्तिगत रंजिशें थीं।
जांचकर्ताओं का कहना है कि उसे संदेह था कि एक व्यक्ति उसकी पत्नी पर बुरी नजर रखता है, दूसरे ने उसका अपमान किया था, जबकि कुछ अन्य लोगों के साथ उसके निजी विवाद थे या उन्होंने कथित तौर पर उसके खिलाफ जातिसूचक टिप्पणियां की थीं।
सोमवार को पुलिस ने जायसवाल को आठ लोगों की कथित हत्या और एक अन्य की हत्या के प्रयास के आरोप में गिरफ्तार कर लिया।
कथित तौर पर ऐसे देता था वारदात को अंजाम
पुलिस के अनुसार, आरोपी ने इस वर्ष की शुरुआत में अपनी कथित योजना का पहला परीक्षण एक कुत्ते को जहर देकर किया था।
जांचकर्ताओं का दावा है कि उसने इसके लिए सुहागा यानी बोरेक्स का इस्तेमाल किया, जिसका ग्रामीण इलाकों में अक्सर चूहे मारने की दवा या कीटनाशक के रूप में उपयोग किया जाता है। आरोप है कि उसने चार महीने में तीन बार यह पदार्थ खरीदा।
पुलिस का कहना है कि कुत्ते पर प्रयोग करने के बाद उसने इस पदार्थ को शराब में मिलाकर उन लोगों को पिलाना शुरू किया, जिन्हें वह अपना निशाना बनाना चाहता था।
जांचकर्ताओं के अनुसार, वह अपने शिकार को शाम के समय घर पर शराब पीने के लिए बुलाता था और यह सुनिश्चित करता था कि वे अकेले आएं। इसके बाद उन्हें कथित तौर पर जहरीला पदार्थ मिला; शराब परोसी जाती थी।
पुलिस का दावा है कि उसके घर पर शराब पीने के एक-दो दिन के भीतर सभी आठ लोगों की मौत हो गई। कई मामलों में आरोपी स्वयं पीड़ितों के परिवारों के साथ अस्पताल गया और अंतिम संस्कार में भी शामिल हुआ।
मौतें अचानक हुईं और लक्षण भी तेजी से सामने आए, इसलिए किसी परिवार को शुरू में किसी साजिश का संदेह नहीं हुआ। कुछ मामलों में तो पीड़ितों को अस्पताल तक नहीं ले जाया गया, क्योंकि परिजनों ने उनकी हालत को गंभीर नहीं समझा और कुछ ही समय बाद उनकी मौत हो गई।
ऐसे शुरू हुआ मौत का सिलसिला
मौतों की शुरुआत 6 फरवरी को हुई, जब 58 वर्षीय बद्री पटेल की मृत्यु हो गई। पुलिस के अनुसार, आरोपी का पटेल के साथ एक मामूली विवाद था और वह उस पर अपमान करने तथा बार-बार शराब मांगने का आरोप लगाता था।
जांचकर्ताओं का दावा है कि जायसवाल ने पटेल को शराब पीने के लिए बुलाया और कथित तौर पर जहरीली शराब पिला दी। बाद में पटेल के घर पर ही मौत हो गई और परिवार ने बिना किसी संदेह के उनका अंतिम संस्कार कर दिया।
पुलिस का मानना है कि जब इस मौत पर कोई सवाल नहीं उठा, तो आरोपी का मनोबल बढ़ गया और उसने इसी तरीके को आगे भी अपनाया।
चार महीने में एक के बाद एक आठ मौतें
इसके बाद मौतों का सिलसिला तेजी से आगे बढ़ा।
20 फरवरी को 60 वर्षीय बुथालू साहू की मौत हो गई। पुलिस का दावा है कि आरोपी उनकी ओर से अपनी कलार जाति के बारे में की गई कथित टिप्पणियों से नाराज था।
12 मार्च को 60 वर्षीय बुधराम जायसवाल की मौत हुई। जांचकर्ताओं के मुताबिक, दोनों के बीच जमीन को लेकर विवाद था।
20 मार्च को छत्तूराम साहू की मौत हुई। पुलिस का कहना है कि आरोपी को शक था कि छत्तूराम की उसके परिवार में अनुचित रुचि थी।
31 मार्च को 38 वर्षीय विनोद कुमार साहू की मौत हो गई। पुलिस के अनुसार, आरोपी का आरोप था कि विनोद अक्सर उसका अपमान करता था।
28 अप्रैल को 55 वर्षीय गजानंद मांझी की भी इसी तरह मौत हो गई। जांचकर्ताओं के मुताबिक, आरोपी को संदेह था कि वह उस पर तंत्र-मंत्र कर रहे थे।
इसके अगले ही दिन 58 वर्षीय चैतूराम साहू की मौत हो गई। पुलिस का कहना है कि आरोपी ने उनसे 50 हजार रुपये उधार लिए थे और संभवतः वह कर्ज लौटाने से बचना चाहता था।
मौतों का सिलसिला 14 मई को 41 वर्षीय महेतरु राम साहू की मृत्यु के साथ समाप्त हुआ। पुलिस के अनुसार, आरोपी को लगता था कि महेतरु अक्सर उसका मजाक उड़ाते थे।
एक व्यक्ति के बचने से खुला पूरा मामला
जांचकर्ताओं के अनुसार, 14 अप्रैल को आरोपी ने कार्तिक कुम्हार को अपने घर शराब पीने के लिए बुलाया। दोनों के बीच पहले भी विवाद हो चुका था।
घर लौटने के बाद कार्तिक की तबीयत अचानक बिगड़ गई और उन्हें अस्पताल में भर्ती कराना पड़ा।
बीमार होने के बाद उन्होंने अपने परिवार को बताया कि उन्होंने बीमार पड़ने से पहले जायसवाल के साथ शराब पी थी।
6 जून को कार्तिक के परिवार और गांव के अन्य लोग पुलिस के पास पहुंचे और जायसवाल पर संदेह जताया। इसके बाद मामले की जांच शुरू हुई।
जांच और फॉरेंसिक पड़ताल
रायपुर रेंज के पुलिस महानिरीक्षक अमरेश मिश्रा ने बताया कि शिकायत मिलते ही जांच शुरू कर दी गई।
उन्होंने कहा, “जांच के दौरान सात शवों को कब्र से निकालकर रायपुर स्थित डॉ. भीमराव अंबेडकर मेमोरियल अस्पताल भेजा गया। एक विशेष मेडिको-लीगल टीम ने पोस्टमॉर्टम किया और डीएनए नमूनों, विसरा तथा अन्य फॉरेंसिक साक्ष्यों को सुरक्षित रखा गया।”
मिश्रा ने बताया कि पुलिस ने हर मौत की अलग-अलग जांच की और गांव के लोगों से लगातार पूछताछ कर पूरे घटनाक्रम को समझने की कोशिश की।
उन्होंने कहा कि एक टीम तकनीकी और फॉरेंसिक साक्ष्य जुटाने में लगी रही, जबकि दूसरी टीम गांव में रहकर लोगों से पूछताछ और घटनाक्रम की निगरानी करती रही।
पुलिस ने उन लोगों की भी पहचान कर ली है जिन्होंने कथित तौर पर जायसवाल को सुहागा उपलब्ध कराया था। जांचकर्ताओं के मुताबिक, आरोपी ने उनसे कहा था कि उसे चूहों को मारने के लिए इस पदार्थ की आवश्यकता है।
