Uttar Pradesh Seeks Bigger Global Market for Traditional Textiles; Doctor Reappointment Age Raised to 70
Brajesh Pathak says fresh investment is strengthening the state’s textile sector; extended tenure for experienced government doctors aimed at easing pressure on public hospitals
LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh is looking to convert its deep-rooted textile and handicraft traditions into a larger economic opportunity, with the state government placing greater emphasis on market access, investment and international outreach for its weavers and artisans.
The message came from Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak at the conclusion of UP TEX-2026 in Lucknow on Wednesday.
The two-day event was organised by the Handloom and Textiles Industry Department.
Pathak said the state had long possessed the skills and production base needed to sustain a strong textile industry.
What had been missing, he indicated, was a sufficiently broad market for the products being made in Uttar Pradesh.
According to him, that gap is narrowing. Textiles originating in the state are now finding markets beyond Uttar Pradesh, including across the country and abroad.
The Deputy Chief Minister also pointed to the arrival of significant investment as evidence of increasing interest in the state’s textile industry.
For the government, the expansion of the sector is closely tied to the fortunes of the people whose livelihoods depend on it.
Uttar Pradesh’s handloom heritage supports large numbers of weavers, craftsmen and entrepreneurs, making the sector both an economic activity and an important part of the state’s cultural identity.
Pathak said the government’s focus would therefore extend beyond production to the empowerment of those engaged in traditional crafts.
The objective is to give artisans and weavers stronger economic opportunities and create avenues through which their skills and products can compete in international markets.
Experienced doctors to remain available longer
The Deputy Chief Minister also announced a change concerning the availability of experienced doctors in the state’s government healthcare system.
Government doctors in Uttar Pradesh will have the option of continuing their services through reappointment up to the age of 70, Pathak said.
The measure is intended to strengthen the public health network by retaining experienced medical professionals for a longer period. Government hospitals, along with Community Health Centres and Primary Health Centres, handle a heavy patient load each day.
Keeping seasoned doctors available is expected to help healthcare facilities deal with that demand more effectively.
It could also enable patients to benefit from the experience of senior medical professionals while reducing some of the workload faced by hospitals and health centres.
The two announcements made at the closing of UP TEX-2026 underline two areas of the state’s wider development agenda: creating stronger commercial opportunities for traditional industries and making better use of experienced professionals within essential public services.

लखनऊ: उत्तर प्रदेश अपनी पुरानी हथकरघा और वस्त्र परंपरा को बड़े कारोबारी अवसर में बदलने की दिशा में आगे बढ़ रहा है। सरकार का जोर अब केवल उत्पादन बढ़ाने तक सीमित नहीं है, बल्कि बुनकरों और कारीगरों के उत्पादों के लिए देश-विदेश में नए बाजार तैयार करने पर भी है।
उपमुख्यमंत्री ब्रजेश पाठक ने बुधवार को लखनऊ में दो दिवसीय UP TEX-2026 के समापन समारोह में यह बात कही। कार्यक्रम का आयोजन हथकरघा एवं वस्त्रोद्योग विभाग ने किया था।
पाठक ने कहा कि उत्तर प्रदेश में कपड़ा बनाने की क्षमता और पारंपरिक हुनर की कमी कभी नहीं रही। चुनौती यह थी कि यहां तैयार होने वाले उत्पादों को पर्याप्त और व्यापक बाजार नहीं मिल पाता था।
अब परिस्थितियां बदल रही हैं और प्रदेश में निर्मित वस्त्रों की पहुंच देश के विभिन्न हिस्सों के साथ-साथ अंतरराष्ट्रीय बाजार तक भी बढ़ रही है।
टेक्सटाइल उद्योग में आने वाले निवेश का उल्लेख करते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि इससे इस क्षेत्र के लिए नई संभावनाएं बन रही हैं।
निवेश बढ़ने के साथ प्रदेश के पारंपरिक वस्त्र कारोबार को विस्तार देने और इससे जुड़े लोगों के लिए नए अवसर पैदा होने की उम्मीद है।
बुनकरों और कारीगरों को आर्थिक मजबूती देने की कोशिश
उपमुख्यमंत्री ने प्रदेश की हथकरघा परंपरा को सांस्कृतिक पहचान के साथ-साथ एक बड़े आजीविका तंत्र के रूप में रेखांकित किया। इस क्षेत्र से बड़ी संख्या में बुनकर, हस्तशिल्प कारीगर और उद्यमी जुड़े हुए हैं।
सरकार की प्राथमिकता इन लोगों को अधिक मजबूत बाजार उपलब्ध कराने की है। पाठक के अनुसार पारंपरिक कौशल को आधुनिक बाजार से जोड़कर बुनकरों और कारीगरों की आर्थिक स्थिति बेहतर की जा सकती है।
इसी सोच के तहत प्रदेश के पारंपरिक उत्पादों को अंतरराष्ट्रीय खरीदारों तक पहुंचाने पर जोर दिया जा रहा है, ताकि स्थानीय स्तर पर विकसित हुआ हुनर व्यापक कारोबारी पहचान हासिल कर सके।
70 वर्ष तक जारी रह सकेगी सरकारी डॉक्टरों की सेवा
कार्यक्रम के दौरान स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं को लेकर भी महत्वपूर्ण घोषणा की गई। ब्रजेश पाठक ने कहा कि उत्तर प्रदेश में सरकारी डॉक्टरों को पुनर्नियुक्ति के माध्यम से 70 वर्ष की आयु तक सेवाएं जारी रखने का अवसर दिया जाएगा।
उन्होंने बताया कि इस व्यवस्था के पीछे उद्देश्य सरकारी स्वास्थ्य ढांचे को अनुभवी चिकित्सकों की सेवाओं से अधिक समय तक लाभान्वित करना है।
प्रदेश के सरकारी अस्पतालों के अलावा सीएचसी और पीएचसी में प्रतिदिन बड़ी संख्या में मरीज पहुंचते हैं। ऐसे में अनुभवी डॉक्टरों की उपलब्धता बढ़ने से मरीजों को उपचार की बेहतर सुविधा देने में मदद मिल सकती है।
सरकार के अनुसार, वरिष्ठ और अनुभवी चिकित्सकों को लंबे समय तक सेवा में बनाए रखने से अस्पतालों तथा स्वास्थ्य केंद्रों पर काम का दबाव भी कम करने में सहायता मिलेगी।
UP TEX-2026 के समापन पर सामने आए दोनों फैसलों और बयानों में एक ओर पारंपरिक उद्योगों को नए बाजार से जोड़ने की कोशिश दिखाई दी, तो दूसरी ओर सार्वजनिक स्वास्थ्य व्यवस्था में अनुभवी मानव संसाधन का बेहतर इस्तेमाल करने पर जोर रहा।
