VP CP Radhakrishnan Calls Arunachal Pradesh ‘Proud Guardian’ of India’s Borders, Says Northeast Key to Growth
Addressing a special Arunachal Assembly session, the Vice President highlighted the state’s strategic location, forest cover, biodiversity and role in India’s development
ITANAGAR: Vice President CP Radhakrishnan on Wednesday described Arunachal Pradesh as a “proud guardian” of India’s frontiers, underlining the northeastern state’s strategic significance and its contribution to the country’s security and future.
Addressing a special session of the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly, Radhakrishnan said the safety of the wider nation is closely connected with the protection of India’s borders by the people of the state.
He also pointed to Arunachal’s cultural wealth and natural resources as important elements of its national significance.
In a post on X, the Vice President said Arunachal Pradesh has enormous strategic value and “boundless potential”.
He stressed that the state’s advancement cannot be viewed separately from India’s overall progress, describing it as an essential part of the country’s unity and security.
Radhakrishnan placed the state’s development within the larger transformation taking place across the Northeast.
He recalled the creation of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, or DoNER, during the tenure of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
He also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Act East policy and his description of the eight northeastern states as “Ashta Lakshmi”.
According to Radhakrishnan, the region is increasingly taking on the role of an important engine of India’s economic growth.
The Vice President noted that more than ₹6,800 crore has been provided to the DoNER Ministry in this year’s Union Budget, highlighting the financial focus on the development of the Northeast.
Beyond its strategic location, Radhakrishnan drew attention to Arunachal Pradesh’s environmental importance.
With roughly 79 per cent of its area under forest cover, the state possesses extensive biodiversity, forests, rivers and other natural assets that contribute to India’s environmental security and ability to withstand climate-related challenges.
Agriculture also featured in his remarks. Radhakrishnan said Arunachal Pradesh has become India’s leading producer of kiwi fruit.
He added that more than one lakh soil health cards have been distributed among farmers in the state.
The Vice President called for a collective approach to strengthening Arunachal Pradesh and, in turn, the nation.
Invoking the principle of “Rashtra Pratham”, or Nation First, he said the vision of a developed India would remain incomplete without progress in Arunachal Pradesh.
Radhakrishnan also used the Assembly platform to underline the responsibilities of elected representatives.
He urged legislators to preserve the highest standards of democratic functioning and said dialogue, debate and discussion should remain central to legislative proceedings.
He acknowledged that disruptions can also occur inside legislatures but stressed that parliamentary and assembly proceedings must ultimately produce decisions.
In his view, meaningful debate can reinforce democratic institutions, while constructive cooperation can contribute to the advancement of both the state and the country.
His address combined a call for greater development in Arunachal Pradesh with an emphasis on its strategic role, environmental wealth and democratic institutions, presenting the state’s progress as closely tied to India’s broader national objectives.

ईटानगर: उपराष्ट्रपति सीपी राधाकृष्णन ने बुधवार को अरुणाचल प्रदेश को भारत की सीमाओं का “गौरवान्वित प्रहरी” बताते हुए कहा कि देश की सुरक्षा में इस सीमावर्ती राज्य की भूमिका बेहद महत्वपूर्ण है। उन्होंने कहा कि अरुणाचल की सीमाओं की सुरक्षा देश की व्यापक सुरक्षा से सीधे जुड़ी हुई है।
अरुणाचल प्रदेश विधानसभा के विशेष सत्र को संबोधित करते हुए राधाकृष्णन ने राज्य की रणनीतिक स्थिति के साथ-साथ उसकी समृद्ध सांस्कृतिक विरासत और प्राकृतिक संसाधनों का उल्लेख किया। उन्होंने कहा कि राज्य में देश के भविष्य के लिए अपार संभावनाएं मौजूद हैं।
एक्स पर साझा किए गए अपने संदेश में उपराष्ट्रपति ने अरुणाचल प्रदेश को भारत की एकता और सुरक्षा का अभिन्न हिस्सा बताया। उनके मुताबिक राज्य का विकास केवल क्षेत्रीय प्रगति तक सीमित नहीं है, बल्कि यह भारत की समग्र प्रगति से जुड़ा हुआ है।
राधाकृष्णन ने अपने संबोधन में पूरे पूर्वोत्तर क्षेत्र की बदलती भूमिका पर भी जोर दिया। उन्होंने पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी के कार्यकाल में पूर्वोत्तर क्षेत्र के विकास के लिए मंत्रालय यानी डोनर (DoNER) के गठन का उल्लेख किया।
उन्होंने प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी की ‘एक्ट ईस्ट’ नीति का जिक्र करते हुए पूर्वोत्तर के आठ राज्यों को ‘अष्ट लक्ष्मी’ के रूप में दिए गए उनके वर्णन की ओर भी ध्यान दिलाया। उपराष्ट्रपति ने कहा कि यह क्षेत्र अब देश की आर्थिक वृद्धि के प्रमुख वाहकों में उभर रहा है।
वित्तीय प्राथमिकता का उल्लेख करते हुए उन्होंने बताया कि इस वर्ष के केंद्रीय बजट में डोनर मंत्रालय के लिए 6,800 करोड़ रुपये से अधिक का प्रावधान किया गया है। उनके अनुसार यह पूर्वोत्तर के विकास पर केंद्रित प्रयासों को दर्शाता है।
अरुणाचल की प्राकृतिक संपदा को रेखांकित करते हुए राधाकृष्णन ने कहा कि राज्य का करीब 79 प्रतिशत क्षेत्र वनाच्छादित है। यहां मौजूद जैव विविधता, जंगल, नदियां और अन्य प्राकृतिक संसाधन भारत की पर्यावरणीय सुरक्षा तथा जलवायु संबंधी चुनौतियों से निपटने की क्षमता के लिए महत्वपूर्ण हैं।
कृषि के क्षेत्र में भी उन्होंने राज्य की उपलब्धियों का उल्लेख किया। राधाकृष्णन के अनुसार, अरुणाचल प्रदेश देश में कीवी फल का अग्रणी उत्पादक बन चुका है। उन्होंने यह भी बताया कि राज्य के किसानों को एक लाख से अधिक मृदा स्वास्थ्य कार्ड जारी किए जा चुके हैं।
उपराष्ट्रपति ने राज्य और देश को मजबूत बनाने के लिए सामूहिक प्रयासों का आह्वान किया। उन्होंने “राष्ट्र प्रथम” की भावना का उल्लेख करते हुए कहा कि विकसित भारत का लक्ष्य विकसित अरुणाचल प्रदेश के बिना पूरा नहीं हो सकता।
विधानसभा में अपने संबोधन के दौरान राधाकृष्णन ने जनप्रतिनिधियों की लोकतांत्रिक जिम्मेदारियों पर भी जोर दिया। उन्होंने विधायकों से लोकतांत्रिक संस्थाओं की सर्वोच्च परंपराओं को बनाए रखने और सदन की कार्यवाही में संवाद, बहस तथा चर्चा को महत्व देने की अपील की।
उन्होंने कहा कि सदन में बहस, चर्चा और यहां तक कि व्यवधान भी अंततः किसी निर्णय तक पहुंचने की दिशा में होने चाहिए। उनके अनुसार स्वस्थ बहस लोकतंत्र को मजबूती देती है, जबकि रचनात्मक सहयोग राज्य और देश दोनों की प्रगति को गति देता है।
अपने संबोधन में उपराष्ट्रपति ने अरुणाचल प्रदेश के विकास को तीन व्यापक पहलुओं—राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा, प्राकृतिक एवं पर्यावरणीय संपदा और लोकतांत्रिक संस्थाओं—से जोड़ते हुए राज्य की प्रगति को भारत के व्यापक राष्ट्रीय लक्ष्य का महत्वपूर्ण हिस्सा बताया।
