Yogi Adityanath Restores Sant Ravidas Nagar Name for Bhadohi, Announces New Measures to Promote Social Harmony
Marking the 650th birth anniversary celebrations of Sant Ravidas, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday declared that Bhadohi district would once again officially bear the name Sant Ravidas Nagar.
The announcement was made during a commemorative programme dedicated to the revered saint, with the Chief Minister describing the move as a tribute to his enduring legacy and contribution to social equality.
The district’s name has witnessed political reversals over the years. During the Bahujan Samaj Party government led by Mayawati between 2007 and 2012, Bhadohi had been renamed Sant Ravidas Nagar.
Subsequently, the Samajwadi Party government headed by Akhilesh Yadav restored the earlier name, Bhadohi, thereby reversing the previous decision.
Speaking at a BJP function held at Seer Govardhan in Varanasi, the birthplace of Sant Ravidas, the Chief Minister announced that the park hosting the event would also be dedicated to the saint.
Referring to initiatives taken at the national level, he said that, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, the airport at Jalandhar has already been named in honour of Sant Ravidas.
The gathering was scheduled to be attended by BJP national president Nitin Nabin, but party leaders said his visit was cancelled shortly before the programme.
The event, however, witnessed the presence of Deputy Chief Ministers Brajesh Pathak and Keshav Prasad Maurya, along with Uttar Pradesh BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary and several senior party leaders.
During the programme, Yogi Adityanath presented urns filled with sacred soil to representatives from all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh as well as delegates from different states.
According to organisers, these urns will be carried to their respective regions where public programmes will be organised to spread the message of social harmony and communal unity inspired by the teachings of Sant Ravidas.
The Chief Minister later paid floral tribute to the statue of Sant Ravidas before inaugurating the Deepotsav celebrations at Ravidas Ghat by lighting ceremonial lamps.
Addressing the gathering, he said the ‘Samrasta Sankalp Abhiyan’ would reach every village and every household across the country with the objective of strengthening social cohesion and national unity.
Announcing additional welfare initiatives, Yogi Adityanath said the state government has resolved to install protective canopies over statues of Sant Ravidas, Maharishi Valmiki, Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar and other icons associated with social justice wherever they are located in public places.
He further stated that boundary walls would also be constructed around parks named after Sant Ravidas, Maharishi Valmiki and Dr Ambedkar to ensure their preservation and protection.

संत रविदास की 650वीं जयंती के अवसर पर उत्तर प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री योगी आदित्यनाथ ने बुधवार को बड़ी घोषणा करते हुए कहा कि भदोही जिला अब पुनः आधिकारिक रूप से संत रविदास नगर के नाम से जाना जाएगा।
उन्होंने इस निर्णय को महान संत की स्मृति और सामाजिक समानता के प्रति उनके अमूल्य योगदान को समर्पित बताया।
जिले के नाम को लेकर पहले भी राजनीतिक स्तर पर बदलाव होते रहे हैं। बहुजन समाज पार्टी की सरकार के दौरान वर्ष 2007 से 2012 के बीच तत्कालीन मुख्यमंत्री मायावती ने भदोही का नाम बदलकर संत रविदास नगर किया था।
बाद में समाजवादी पार्टी सरकार के कार्यकाल में मुख्यमंत्री अखिलेश यादव ने इस निर्णय को पलटते हुए जिले का पुराना नाम भदोही बहाल कर दिया था।
वाराणसी स्थित संत रविदास की जन्मस्थली सीर गोवर्धन में आयोजित भाजपा के कार्यक्रम को संबोधित करते हुए मुख्यमंत्री ने घोषणा की कि जिस पार्क में समारोह आयोजित किया गया है, उसे भी संत रविदास को समर्पित किया जाएगा।
उन्होंने कहा कि प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी की प्रेरणा के अनुरूप जालंधर हवाई अड्डे का नाम पहले ही संत रविदास के नाम पर रखा जा चुका है।
कार्यक्रम में भाजपा के राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष नितिन नवीन के शामिल होने का कार्यक्रम था, लेकिन पार्टी नेताओं के अनुसार उनका दौरा अंतिम समय में निरस्त हो गया। समारोह में उपमुख्यमंत्री ब्रजेश पाठक, उपमुख्यमंत्री केशव प्रसाद मौर्य, प्रदेश भाजपा अध्यक्ष पंकज चौधरी सहित अनेक वरिष्ठ नेता उपस्थित रहे।
इस अवसर पर मुख्यमंत्री ने उत्तर प्रदेश के सभी 75 जिलों तथा देश के विभिन्न राज्यों से आए प्रतिनिधियों को पवित्र मिट्टी से भरे कलश सौंपे।
आयोजकों के अनुसार ये प्रतिनिधि अपने-अपने क्षेत्रों में इन कलशों के साथ कार्यक्रम आयोजित करेंगे और संत रविदास के संदेश के अनुरूप सामाजिक समरसता तथा भाईचारे का अभियान आगे बढ़ाएंगे।
इसके बाद योगी आदित्यनाथ ने संत रविदास की प्रतिमा पर माल्यार्पण किया और रविदास घाट पर दीप प्रज्ज्वलित कर दीपोत्सव का शुभारंभ किया। उन्होंने कहा कि ‘समरसता संकल्प अभियान’ के माध्यम से देश के प्रत्येक गांव और प्रत्येक परिवार तक सामाजिक एकता का संदेश पहुंचाया जाएगा।
मुख्यमंत्री ने इस दौरान कई महत्वपूर्ण घोषणाएं भी कीं। उन्होंने कहा कि राज्य सरकार सार्वजनिक स्थलों पर स्थापित संत रविदास, महर्षि वाल्मीकि, डॉ. भीमराव आंबेडकर तथा सामाजिक न्याय से जुड़े अन्य महापुरुषों की प्रतिमाओं पर सुरक्षात्मक छतरियां बनवाएगी।
इसके साथ ही संत रविदास, महर्षि वाल्मीकि और डॉ. आंबेडकर के नाम पर स्थापित पार्कों की सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करने के लिए उनकी चारदीवारी भी सरकारी खर्च पर निर्मित कराई जाएगी।
