Yogi Adityanath Says Ram Temple Donation Theft Hurt Devotees’ Faith, Warns Against Defaming Ayodhya and Ram Janmabhoomi Movement
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday said the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya had deeply hurt the sentiments of millions of devotees, but cautioned against using the incident to tarnish the image of Ayodhya or undermine the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.
Addressing a programme organised by Aaj Tak in Lucknow, the Chief Minister maintained that while the episode was regrettable, it should not become a tool for attacking the religious faith of devotees.
Expressing his personal anguish over the controversy, Adityanath remarked that the developments in Ayodhya had undoubtedly shaken the faith of every devotee of Lord Ram.
He reiterated that the alleged wrongdoing by a few individuals should not be allowed to overshadow the larger significance of the temple or diminish the spiritual importance of the holy city.
His remarks came a day after he had described the alleged theft of temple donations as “unfortunate”, while asserting that it was under the BJP’s leadership that Ayodhya had emerged as the cultural capital of Sanatan Dharma and regained its historical prominence.
Launching a sharp attack on Opposition parties, the Chief Minister accused them of exploiting the donation controversy for political gains.
He said the state government had acted immediately after receiving information about the alleged irregularities and had constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct an impartial inquiry following a request from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
Adityanath clarified that the government has no authority to interfere in the day-to-day functioning of the Trust.
However, once the SIT submitted its preliminary findings, the Trust initiated action without delay.
According to him, six individuals allegedly identified through CCTV footage while stealing donations were arrested; those who allegedly assisted them were also taken into custody, and two senior functionaries of the Trust—former General Secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra—stepped down on moral grounds.
Despite these actions, the Chief Minister alleged that certain political parties were attempting to use the episode to malign Ayodhya, question the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, and hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus.
He argued that such efforts were unjustified and accused previous governments of repeatedly undermining religious faith during their tenure.
Targeting the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, Adityanath questioned their credibility on matters relating to religion and faith.
He alleged that political groups that had previously imposed restrictions on Kanwar Yatra, Ram Navami processions, and Krishna Janmashtami celebrations were now attempting to portray themselves as protectors of religious sentiments.
The BJP leader further claimed that political parties that had once ordered police action against devotees of Lord Ram and had questioned the historical existence of Lord Ram and Lord Krishna before the Supreme Court were now invoking the issue of faith.
He also alleged that these parties had consistently attempted to delay or obstruct the construction of the Ram Temple by pursuing legal challenges against it.
Raising questions over the Opposition’s claims of secularism, the Chief Minister referred to an earlier controversy involving the offering of namaz near Hanumangarhi in Ayodhya.
He argued that true secularism would require equal respect for all faiths and suggested that religious practices of different communities should be treated on an equal footing if such principles were genuinely followed.
Continuing his criticism, Adityanath accused previous Congress-led governments at the Centre and Samajwadi Party governments in Uttar Pradesh of being associated with major corruption scandals during their tenure.
He alleged that leaders who had presided over large-scale financial irregularities were now attempting to politicise the alleged theft of temple donations while remaining silent on what he described as their own record of corruption.

उत्तर प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री योगी आदित्यनाथ ने बुधवार को कहा कि अयोध्या स्थित राम मंदिर में चढ़ावे के कथित गबन की घटना ने करोड़ों रामभक्तों की भावनाओं को गहरी ठेस पहुंचाई है।
हालांकि उन्होंने यह भी स्पष्ट किया कि इस प्रकरण को आधार बनाकर अयोध्या, श्रीराम जन्मभूमि आंदोलन अथवा सनातन आस्था को बदनाम करने का कोई औचित्य नहीं है।
लखनऊ में आयोजित आज तक के एक कार्यक्रम में मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा कि कुछ व्यक्तियों के कथित कृत्य को पूरे मंदिर और उससे जुड़े धार्मिक आंदोलन के साथ जोड़कर देखना उचित नहीं होगा।
अपनी भावनाएं व्यक्त करते हुए योगी आदित्यनाथ ने कहा कि अयोध्या की इस घटना ने प्रत्येक रामभक्त की आस्था को निश्चित रूप से आहत किया है।
उन्होंने जोर देकर कहा कि इस घटना को पूरे धार्मिक आंदोलन या करोड़ों श्रद्धालुओं की श्रद्धा के साथ जोड़कर प्रस्तुत करना न केवल अनुचित है बल्कि समाज में भ्रम फैलाने वाला भी है।
मुख्यमंत्री की यह टिप्पणी उस बयान के एक दिन बाद आई है, जिसमें उन्होंने चढ़ावे की कथित चोरी को “दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण” बताते हुए कहा था कि भारतीय जनता पार्टी के प्रयासों से ही अयोध्या को सनातन धर्म की सांस्कृतिक राजधानी के रूप में वैश्विक पहचान मिली है।
विपक्ष पर तीखा प्रहार करते हुए योगी आदित्यनाथ ने आरोप लगाया कि कुछ राजनीतिक दल इस मामले का राजनीतिक लाभ उठाने का प्रयास कर रहे हैं।
उन्होंने कहा कि श्रीराम जन्मभूमि तीर्थ क्षेत्र ट्रस्ट के अनुरोध पर राज्य सरकार ने तत्काल विशेष जांच दल (एसआईटी) का गठन किया और पूरे मामले की निष्पक्ष जांच शुरू कराई।
मुख्यमंत्री ने स्पष्ट किया कि मंदिर ट्रस्ट के आंतरिक कार्यों में सरकार का कोई हस्तक्षेप नहीं होता। उन्होंने कहा कि जैसे ही एसआईटी की प्रारंभिक रिपोर्ट सामने आई, ट्रस्ट ने तत्काल कार्रवाई शुरू कर दी।
सीसीटीवी फुटेज में कथित रूप से चोरी करते दिखाई देने वाले छह लोगों को गिरफ्तार किया गया, उनके सहयोगियों को भी हिरासत में लिया गया तथा नैतिक जिम्मेदारी स्वीकार करते हुए ट्रस्ट के तत्कालीन महासचिव चंपत राय और ट्रस्टी अनिल मिश्रा ने अपने पदों से इस्तीफा दे दिया।
योगी आदित्यनाथ ने कहा कि इतनी त्वरित कार्रवाई के बावजूद कुछ राजनीतिक दल इस घटना का इस्तेमाल अयोध्या की छवि धूमिल करने, श्रीराम जन्मभूमि आंदोलन को बदनाम करने और हिंदू समाज की धार्मिक आस्था पर प्रहार करने के लिए कर रहे हैं।
उनके अनुसार यह न केवल अनुचित है बल्कि उन लोगों की मानसिकता को भी दर्शाता है, जिन्होंने अतीत में भी धार्मिक भावनाओं को बार-बार आहत किया।
कांग्रेस और समाजवादी पार्टी पर निशाना साधते हुए मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा कि जो दल कभी कांवड़ यात्रा, रामनवमी शोभायात्रा और श्रीकृष्ण जन्माष्टमी जैसे धार्मिक आयोजनों पर प्रतिबंध लगाने की कोशिश करते थे, वही आज आस्था की बात कर रहे हैं। उन्होंने इसे राजनीतिक अवसरवाद का उदाहरण बताया।
भाजपा नेता ने यह भी आरोप लगाया कि जिन राजनीतिक दलों ने अतीत में भगवान राम के भक्तों पर गोलियां चलवाईं, सर्वोच्च न्यायालय में भगवान राम और भगवान कृष्ण के अस्तित्व पर प्रश्न उठाए तथा राम मंदिर निर्माण का लगातार विरोध किया, वे आज स्वयं को आस्था का संरक्षक बताने का प्रयास कर रहे हैं।
उनके अनुसार इन दलों ने मंदिर निर्माण रोकने के लिए हर संभव कानूनी और राजनीतिक प्रयास किए थे।
विपक्ष के धर्मनिरपेक्षता के दावों पर सवाल उठाते हुए मुख्यमंत्री ने अयोध्या के हनुमानगढ़ी से जुड़े एक पुराने विवाद का उल्लेख किया।
उन्होंने कहा कि यदि वास्तव में सभी धर्मों के प्रति समान दृष्टिकोण अपनाया जाता, तो धार्मिक आयोजनों के मामले में भी समान व्यवहार दिखाई देता। उनके अनुसार धर्मनिरपेक्षता का अर्थ एकतरफा आचरण नहीं बल्कि सभी समुदायों के प्रति समान सम्मान होना चाहिए।
अपने संबोधन के अंत में योगी आदित्यनाथ ने कांग्रेस और समाजवादी पार्टी की पूर्व सरकारों पर भ्रष्टाचार के गंभीर आरोप लगाए। उन्होंने कहा कि जिन दलों के शासनकाल में अनेक घोटालों की चर्चा होती रही, वही आज राम मंदिर के चढ़ावे में कथित गबन के मुद्दे पर नैतिकता का पाठ पढ़ाने का प्रयास कर रहे हैं।
मुख्यमंत्री ने आरोप लगाया कि अपने शासनकाल की कथित वित्तीय अनियमितताओं पर मौन रहने वाले विपक्षी दल अब इस मामले को राजनीतिक रंग देकर जनता को भ्रमित करने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं।
