West Asia Conflict Escalates Again: US and Iran Exchange Fresh Strikes as Strait of Hormuz Crisis Deepens

Dubai/ Washington /Tehran:  Hopes of easing tensions in West Asia have faded rapidly as hostilities between the United States and Iran intensified once again, raising fears that the region could slide back into a prolonged and wider military confrontation.

The temporary ceasefire that collapsed on July 6 has failed to prevent renewed attacks, with both countries expanding military operations on land and at sea, particularly around the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz.

In the latest escalation, Iranian forces launched fresh attacks on American military installations in Jordan.

Iranian authorities said the strikes targeted communication infrastructure and fuel storage facilities at the Al-Azraq military base using drones, describing the operation as retaliation for continued US military action against Iranian territory.

Washington responded with another round of coordinated air operations across Iran.

The US military said its aircraft struck multiple strategic targets, including command-and-control centres, air defence systems, missile and drone infrastructure, and coastal surveillance installations.

The latest operations also included strikes in and around Bandar Abbas as part of efforts to reduce Iran’s military capabilities in the Gulf region.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that the attacks were intended to weaken Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the military, precision-guided munitions were used against several locations, while a separate 90-minute operation targeted coastal defence positions and cruise missile sites on Greater Tunb Island. US officials said the operations were carried out under the directives of the Commander-in-Chief.

The conflict has begun affecting neighbouring Gulf countries as well. Kuwait announced that its air defence systems intercepted Iranian drones, while air raid sirens were activated across Bahrain.

Bahrain’s Interior Ministry appealed to residents to remain calm and move to the nearest safe shelters as precautionary measures were implemented.

Meanwhile, the United States also announced enforcement of its naval blockade against Iran. CENTCOM said American forces intercepted a Curaçao-flagged commercial oil tanker that was allegedly attempting to reach Iran’s Kharg Island despite repeated warnings.

According to the US military, an aircraft fired Hellfire missiles into the vessel’s smokestack, disabling the ship without sinking it and preventing it from continuing its voyage toward Iran.

Regional concerns widened further after Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi condemned what he described as a drone attack that violated the airspace over Erbil in Iraq’s Kurdistan region.

Although responsibility was not officially attributed, the incident has added to fears that the conflict may increasingly spill over into neighbouring countries.

Amid the growing instability, Washington approved a proposed weapons package worth an estimated US$1.96 billion for Saudi Arabia, signalling continued military support for key regional allies as the security situation deteriorates.

Iranian authorities also reported that recent American airstrikes targeted Semnan province, an area that houses important ballistic missile production facilities as well as elements of the country’s space programme.

The attacks represent one of the deepest US operations inside Iran during the latest phase of the conflict.

The atmosphere inside Iran has become increasingly charged, with large posters depicting US President Donald Trump inside a coffin displayed in several parts of Tehran.

The displays reflect rising anti-American sentiment as military exchanges continue and diplomatic efforts remain stalled.

पश्चिम एशिया में शांति की उम्मीदें एक बार फिर धूमिल होती दिखाई दे रही हैं। अमेरिका और ईरान के बीच सैन्य टकराव तेज हो गया है और हालात दोबारा व्यापक युद्ध की ओर बढ़ते नजर आ रहे हैं। 6 जुलाई को समाप्त हुआ अस्थायी युद्धविराम क्षेत्र में स्थिरता नहीं ला सका।

इसके बाद दोनों देशों ने एक-दूसरे के सैन्य ठिकानों तथा होरमुज़ जलडमरूमध्य से जुड़े रणनीतिक क्षेत्रों में हमलों का दायरा और बढ़ा दिया है।

ताजा घटनाक्रम में ईरानी सेना ने जॉर्डन स्थित अमेरिकी सैन्य प्रतिष्ठानों पर नए हमले किए। ईरानी अधिकारियों के अनुसार ड्रोन हमलों में अल-अजराक सैन्य अड्डे पर मौजूद संचार तंत्र और ईंधन भंडारण सुविधाओं को निशाना बनाया गया।

तेहरान ने इसे अमेरिकी सैन्य कार्रवाई के जवाब में की गई जवाबी कार्रवाई बताया।

दूसरी ओर अमेरिका ने भी ईरान के विभिन्न हिस्सों में एक और व्यापक हवाई अभियान चलाने की पुष्टि की।

अमेरिकी सेना के अनुसार इस अभियान में कमांड एवं नियंत्रण केंद्रों, वायु रक्षा प्रणालियों, मिसाइल और ड्रोन क्षमताओं तथा तटीय निगरानी प्रतिष्ठानों को निशाना बनाया गया। बंदर अब्बास सहित कई सामरिक ठिकानों पर भी हमले किए गए।

अमेरिकी सेंट्रल कमांड (सेंटकॉम) ने कहा कि इन अभियानों का उद्देश्य होरमुज़ जलडमरूमध्य से गुजरने वाले वाणिज्यिक जहाजों के लिए पैदा होने वाले संभावित खतरों को कम करना है।

सेना के अनुसार अत्याधुनिक सटीक हथियारों का इस्तेमाल करते हुए कई लक्ष्यों को निशाना बनाया गया, जबकि ग्रेटर टुन्ब द्वीप पर लगभग 90 मिनट तक चले अलग अभियान में तटीय रक्षा प्रणाली और क्रूज़ मिसाइल ठिकानों को भी नष्ट किया गया।

इस संघर्ष का असर अब पड़ोसी खाड़ी देशों पर भी स्पष्ट दिखाई देने लगा है। कुवैत ने दावा किया कि उसकी वायु रक्षा प्रणाली ने ईरानी ड्रोन को मार गिराया, जबकि बहरीन में हवाई हमले की चेतावनी देने वाले सायरन बजाए गए।

बहरीन के गृह मंत्रालय ने नागरिकों और निवासियों से शांत रहने तथा सुरक्षित स्थानों पर जाने की अपील की।

इसी बीच अमेरिका ने ईरान के खिलाफ अपनी नौसैनिक नाकेबंदी को भी सख्ती से लागू करने की घोषणा की। सेंटकॉम के अनुसार कुरासाओ ध्वज वाले एक वाणिज्यिक तेल टैंकर को उस समय निष्क्रिय कर दिया गया, जब वह कथित रूप से बार-बार चेतावनी के बावजूद ईरान के खार्ग द्वीप की ओर बढ़ रहा था।

अमेरिकी सेना ने बताया कि हेलफायर मिसाइल से जहाज की धुएं की चिमनी को निशाना बनाकर उसे आगे बढ़ने से रोक दिया गया।

क्षेत्रीय तनाव उस समय और बढ़ गया जब इराक के प्रधानमंत्री अली अल-ज़ैदी ने एरबिल के हवाई क्षेत्र में हुए ड्रोन हमले की निंदा करते हुए इसे इराक की संप्रभुता का उल्लंघन बताया।

हालांकि हमले की जिम्मेदारी आधिकारिक रूप से किसी पर नहीं डाली गई है, लेकिन इससे संघर्ष के अन्य देशों तक फैलने की आशंकाएं और गहरी हो गई हैं।

बढ़ते सैन्य तनाव के बीच अमेरिका ने सऊदी अरब को लगभग 1.96 अरब डॉलर मूल्य के हथियारों की प्रस्तावित बिक्री को भी मंजूरी दे दी है। इसे क्षेत्र में अपने सहयोगी देशों की सुरक्षा क्षमता मजबूत करने की दिशा में महत्वपूर्ण कदम माना जा रहा है।

उधर ईरान ने दावा किया कि हालिया अमेरिकी हमलों में सेमनान प्रांत को भी निशाना बनाया गया, जहां देश के बैलिस्टिक मिसाइल निर्माण कार्यक्रम और अंतरिक्ष कार्यक्रम से जुड़े महत्वपूर्ण प्रतिष्ठान स्थित हैं।

इसे मौजूदा संघर्ष के दौरान ईरान के भीतर अमेरिकी अभियानों के सबसे महत्वपूर्ण चरणों में से एक माना जा रहा है।

तेहरान सहित ईरान के कई हिस्सों में अमेरिका विरोधी माहौल और अधिक उग्र दिखाई दे रहा है। राजधानी में अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रंप को ताबूत में दर्शाने वाले विशाल पोस्टर लगाए गए हैं, जो दोनों देशों के बीच बढ़ती शत्रुता और लगातार गहराते टकराव का प्रतीक माने जा रहे हैं।
