In the latest episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 16, Amitabh Bachchan engaged in a thought-provoking discussion about inter-caste marriages with contestant Kriti. During this conversation, he humorously referred to himself as a “half-Sardar,” paying tribute to his Sikh heritage.
For those who may not know, Amitabh Bachchan’s mother, Teji Bachchan, came from a Sikh family, and his maternal aunts lovingly referred to him as “Amitabh Singh.” This charming nickname reflects the deep roots of his heritage.
Recalling the incident, Bachchan said, “I find it a little awkward to call it inter-caste. My father was from Uttar Pradesh, and my mother was from a Sikh family. I believe I am half-Sardar.” He smiled remembering how his aunts from Punjab cuddled him, saying, “When I was born, my masis would say, ‘Kinna sona putar hai, sadda Amitabh Singh’ (What a beautiful son, our Amitabh Singh).”
During the episode, Kriti from Uttar Pradesh opened up about her personal journey, sharing a heartfelt story about her father, who had always dreamed of participating in KBC but never got the chance to do so.
Kriti shared a touching moment during the episode, revealing that even after losing his memory, her father would still answer KBC questions from home, which deeply moved her. By taking the hot seat, she not only fulfilled her father’s dream but also expressed her desire for him to meet Amitabh Bachchan.
In a previous episode, Bachchan opened up about his own struggles with mathematics. When Kriti mentioned her challenges with the subject, admitting she would typically score around 40 marks, she added that her banking experience had helped improve her skills. Amitabh praised her intelligence, admitting he had similar difficulties and only scored 42 marks in math. On the professional front, he was last seen in the highly anticipated film Kalki 2898 AD, alongside Prabhas and Deepika Padukone.
