Actor Mukul Dev Passes Away at 54; Bollywood Mourns the Loss of a Talented Performer and Beloved Friend
Actor Mukul Dev, a familiar face in Hindi, Punjabi, and Bengali cinema, has passed away at the age of 54.
The news was shared by fellow actor Vindu Dara Singh on Saturday through a heartfelt post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Dev, who had reportedly been unwell and receiving treatment in the ICU, is survived by his brother, actor and model Rahul Dev.
The exact cause of his death has not been disclosed.
Known for his dynamic roles in both films and television, Mukul Dev was deeply respected across the Indian entertainment industry.
His sudden demise has left colleagues, friends, and fans in shock, prompting an outpouring of grief and tributes on social media.
Vindu Dara Singh remembered Dev with fondness, writing, “Rest in peace my brother #MukulDev! The time spent with you will always be cherished. Son of Sardaar 2 will be your swansong, where you’ll continue to spread joy and laughter.”
Veteran actor Manoj Bajpayee shared a deeply emotional tribute, stating, “It’s impossible to put into words what I’m feeling. Mukul was like a brother.
His warmth, passion, and kindness were unmatched. Gone far too soon. Prayers for his family and everyone grieving this loss. Om Shanti.”
Actress Deepshikha Nagpal, a close friend of Mukul, posted a video with him on Instagram along with a moving message: “I can’t believe you are gone, Muks. What can I even say?
You were a beautiful soul, an amazing actor, and a wonderful friend. I’ll miss your voice notes terribly. May your soul rest in peace. My deepest condolences to your family.”
Actor Sonu Sood, who shared screen space with Mukul in films like R… Rajkumar, Ek Niranjan, Bhai, and Pagalpanti, wrote on X, “RIP Mukul bhai. You were a gem. Will always miss you. Stay strong @RahulDevRising bhai.”
Ajay Devgn, his co-star in Son of Sardaar, expressed disbelief at the sudden loss. “Still trying to process it… Mukul. It’s all too soon and sudden. You always brought lightness and laughter, even on the heaviest days. Om Shanti.”
Arshad Warsi, who worked with Mukul in several films including Bhaiaji Superhit, Mujhe Meri Biwi Se Bachaao, and Mere Do Anmol Ratan, shared his grief: “Heartbroken to hear about Mukul Dev.
I was really fond of him. A wonderful person with a beautiful soul… May his soul rest in peace.”
Actor Adil Hussain also paid tribute, recalling their time together during the shooting of Jasoos Vijay. “Dear Mukul, I’ll always fondly remember the moments we shared. So sorry to hear of your passing. May your soul rest in peace and ascend toward the highest abode.”
Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh expressed his sorrow, tweeting, “Really upset with the sad news of dear Mukul leaving us so soon. A powerhouse performer and a lovely human being.

In the Bengali film industry as well, Mukul made a mark with performances in movies like Awara, Bachchan, and Sultan: The Saviour, alongside superstar Jeet.
Remembering their work together, Jeet wrote, “Saddened to hear about your passing, Mukul. We shared many laughs and memorable moments on set. You brought energy and joy to every scene. Rest in peace. Om Shanti.”
Mukul Dev began his acting journey in 1996 with the television series Mumkin, and the same year made his Bollywood debut opposite Sushmita Sen in Dastak.
Known for his powerful villainous roles in 1990s television serials and numerous Bollywood films, he featured in several hits like Yamla Pagla Deewana, Jai Ho, R… Rajkumar, and Son of Sardaar. For his performance in Yamla Pagla Deewana, he received the 7th Amrish Puri Award.
Apart from acting, Mukul also contributed as a screenwriter. He co-wrote the 2017 film Omerta along with filmmaker Hansal Mehta. Mourning the loss, Mehta shared on X, “My handsome friend Mukul.
Gone too soon. This is an unrealized talent gone to rest—an underrated actor, a gifted storyteller, and a dear friend. Words fail to capture the grief. A deep personal loss.”
