Akanksha Dubey Death Case: Allahabad High Court Seeks Replies, Hears Plea for CBI Probe Into Bhojpuri Actress’s ‘Suspicious Death’

By Rajesh Pandey

The Allahabad High Court on Friday took up a writ petition seeking a CBI investigation into the controversial death of Bhojpuri actress Akanksha Dubey and issued notices to two accused named in the case — Bhojpuri singer-actor Samar Singh, also known as Samarjeet Singh, and producer Sanjay Singh.

A division bench comprising Justice Siddharth and Justice Vinay Kumar Dwivedi fixed May 22 as the next date of hearing in the matter.

The court also directed the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sarnath police station in Varanasi to submit a counter-affidavit in response to the petition.

The bench warned that if the affidavit is not filed before the next hearing, the SHO will have to appear personally before the court at 10 a.m.

Additionally, the court instructed the Police Commissioner of Varanasi to ensure that the required affidavit is submitted on time by the SHO.

The petition has been filed by Madhu Dubey, the mother of the late actress, who has demanded a CBI inquiry into her daughter’s death.

In her plea, she alleged that Akanksha Dubey did not die by suicide, as claimed by the police, but was murdered.

The case dates back to 2023, when Akanksha Dubey’s body was found inside a hotel room in the Sarnath area of Varanasi.

Her death had triggered widespread attention and debate within the Bhojpuri film industry and among her fans.

Following the incident, Madhu Dubey accused Samar Singh and Sanjay Singh of being involved in her daughter’s death. However, the police investigation at the time concluded that it appeared to be a case of suicide.

Questioning the findings of the local police and alleging lapses in the investigation, the actress’s mother approached the High Court seeking an independent probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Through the petition, she has urged the court to order a fresh investigation so that the “truth behind the incident can come out.”

The matter will now be heard again on May 22, when the court is expected to review the police response and consider further proceedings in the case.
