Firecracker-making operation inside a house turns into a major disaster; rescue teams comb through wreckage for survivors.
A powerful explosion at a firecracker-making unit in Manauri near the Prayagraj-Kaushambi border left at least eleven people dead and several injured on Monday.
PRAYAGRAJ: A deafening chain of blasts tore through a residential structure in Manauri village on Monday, leaving a trail of destruction across the surrounding area and killing 11 people and injuring 18 persons.
Several others were injured in the incident, which occurred close to the Prayagraj-Kaushambi district boundary.
The building, located amid farmland, was reportedly being used for manufacturing firecrackers.
The force of the explosions caused damage to houses in the vicinity, with preliminary assessments indicating that four to five nearby homes were affected.
The deceased have been identified as Priyanjali 5, Nana 4, Ansh 6, Praveen Singh 13, Jahanvi 12, Aditya 12, Ravi 6, Anju 32, Vikram Saroj 35, Ansh 6, Gyan Singh 40, Aditya 8, said an official. The majority of the dead were children.
As flames and smoke engulfed the site, emergency personnel began a large-scale operation to secure the area and look for victims.
Police teams and firefighters were sent to the village, while several fire engines worked to contain the blaze.
The rescue operation soon shifted to the debris.
Machinery was brought in to clear the collapsed portions of the structure, allowing personnel to examine the rubble for anyone who might still be trapped underneath.
The precise location of the incident also raised an administrative question because the site lies close to the boundary separating Prayagraj and Kaushambi.
Officials said the question of jurisdiction would be settled subsequently, with the immediate focus remaining on rescue and relief operations.
Residents said a succession of heavy explosions was followed by thick smoke rising from the building.
The unusual intensity and duration of the blasts drew villagers from nearby areas towards the site, while others moved away from the affected zone fearing further explosions.
The injured were shifted to hospitals in Prayagraj for medical attention.
Their condition and the exact number of people injured were not immediately clear. However, sources said at least 18 persons were injured.
Authorities have not yet completed their assessment of the incident.
Once firefighters finish securing the site and rescue personnel complete the debris search, officials are expected to establish the final death toll, number of injured people and scale of property damage.
The circumstances that led to the explosions, including how the firecracker manufacturing activity was being conducted at the premises, are also expected to come under scrutiny as the investigation progresses.

प्रयागराज: सोमवार को मनौरी गांव में अचानक हुए कई जोरदार धमाकों ने पूरे इलाके में दहशत फैला दी।
खेतों के बीच मौजूद एक मकान में हुए इन विस्फोटों के बाद बड़े पैमाने पर तबाही का मंजर सामने आया। हादसे में 11 लोगों की जान चली गई, जबकि कई अन्य घायल हो गए।
बताया जा रहा है कि इसी मकान में पटाखा बनाने का काम चल रहा था। धमाकों की तीव्रता इतनी अधिक थी कि आसपास के चार से पांच मकानों को भी नुकसान पहुंचा।
घटनास्थल पर इमारत का मलबा फैल गया और आग लगने के बाद इलाके में धुएं का गुबार छा गया।
हादसे की सूचना मिलते ही पुलिस और दमकल विभाग ने मौके पर पहुंचकर राहत अभियान शुरू किया।
आग को फैलने से रोकने के लिए कई दमकल गाड़ियों को लगाया गया, जबकि बचावकर्मियों ने प्रभावित इमारत के आसपास का क्षेत्र सुरक्षित किया।
इमारत के क्षतिग्रस्त हिस्सों के नीचे किसी के दबे होने की आशंका को देखते हुए मलबा हटाने के लिए भारी मशीनरी मंगाई गई। बचाव दल लगातार मलबे को हटाकर अंदर फंसे लोगों की तलाश कर रहे हैं।
घटनास्थल प्रयागराज और कौशांबी की सीमा के बेहद करीब होने के कारण हादसे के अधिकार क्षेत्र को लेकर भी स्थिति स्पष्ट नहीं है।
अधिकारियों के अनुसार, प्रशासनिक सीमा का निर्धारण बाद में किया जाएगा। फिलहाल पूरा ध्यान राहत और बचाव कार्य पर केंद्रित है।
स्थानीय लोगों के मुताबिक, पहले तेज आवाज के साथ धमाके सुनाई दिए और उसके बाद मकान से धुएं का घना गुबार उठने लगा।
विस्फोटों का सिलसिला कुछ समय तक जारी रहने से आसपास के गांवों में भी भय का माहौल पैदा हो गया।
धमाकों की आवाज सुनकर ग्रामीण घटनास्थल की ओर पहुंचे, जबकि कई लोग किसी और विस्फोट की आशंका में सुरक्षित स्थानों की ओर चले गए।
घटना के बाद आसपास के इलाके में काफी देर तक अफरा-तफरी बनी रही।
घायलों को इलाज के लिए प्रयागराज के अस्पतालों में पहुंचाया गया है।
प्रशासन अभी हादसे से हुए नुकसान का पूरा आकलन कर रहा है।
दमकल अभियान समाप्त होने और मलबे की पूरी तरह तलाशी लिए जाने के बाद ही मृतकों और घायलों की अंतिम संख्या स्पष्ट हो सकेगी।
इस बीच, जांच एजेंसियां यह भी पता लगाने की कोशिश करेंगी कि आवासीय परिसर में पटाखा निर्माण किस तरह संचालित किया जा रहा था और विस्फोट की वास्तविक वजह क्या थी।
