Delhi Man Loses Both Legs After Train Accident; Victim Alleges Assault by Friends Before Incident
A 24-year-old man lost both his legs after he was allegedly run over by a train near Subzi Mandi Railway Station in a shocking incident that police now suspect may have been preceded by a violent assault.
According to police officials, the incident took place during the early hours of April 26. Initially, the case appeared to be a tragic railway accident involving an intoxicated man.
However, the investigation took a serious turn after the victim later alleged that he had been brutally beaten by four of his friends before being found near the railway tracks.
Police said the victim, a resident of Mukundpur in north Delhi, gave two separate statements during the course of the investigation.
In his first statement, recorded soon after the incident, the young man said he had spent the previous night drinking with friends and had become heavily intoxicated.
He reportedly told investigators that he lost consciousness and had no memory of how he ended up on the railway tracks.
But in a second statement recorded on May 5, the victim alleged that the events leading up to the accident were far more disturbing.
According to police, the man claimed that he and four friends had gathered at a liquor shop in the Transport Nagar area of Samaypur Badli for drinks. During the gathering, an altercation allegedly broke out, and the four men assaulted him.
“He stated that he was beaten by the four men and later regained consciousness near the railway tracks,” a police officer involved in the investigation said.
Investigators are still trying to determine what led to the alleged assault and how the victim ultimately landed near the tracks where the train accident occurred.
Police said CCTV footage recovered during the investigation appears to support parts of the victim’s allegations. According to a family member, the footage shows the young man being repeatedly punched and kicked.
“We saw CCTV footage where he was being assaulted. He was punched and kicked multiple times. Later, he was taken further away, pushed off a bike, and beaten again,” the relative said.
The family member added that the victim was eventually found near the railway tracks in a semi-naked condition, raising further questions about what happened in the hours before the accident.
Based on the revised statement and evidence collected so far, police registered an FIR on May 6 under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 115(2) for voluntarily causing hurt, Section 126(2) for wrongful restraint, and Section 3(5) related to common intention.
Investigators said they are now examining CCTV footage, analysing call detail records, and questioning the accused individuals to reconstruct the sequence of events.
The victim’s family said the night began like any ordinary outing. According to relatives, he had informed them on April 25 that he was going to attend a party. Later that night, when his brother repeatedly tried calling him, his phone remained switched off.
“The next morning, we received a call from the police saying he had met with an accident,” a relative recalled.
When the family reached the hospital, doctors informed them that both of his legs had been severed in the train incident.
Beyond the physical trauma, the family says the tragedy has shattered the young man’s dreams and future ambitions.
“He is an extremely talented dancer and wanted to pursue dancing professionally,” a family member said emotionally. “That was his passion. But now everything has changed.”
The incident has left the family devastated, while investigators continue trying to determine whether the young man was intentionally abandoned near the railway tracks after the alleged assault or whether other circumstances led to the horrific accident.
