Faridabad School Teacher Murder: Rejected Obsession Ends in Brutal Killing Inside Classroom, Family Demands Death Penalty
The bloodstains left inside Saraswati Senior Secondary School in Sikrona continue to bear witness to one of the most horrifying crimes witnessed in the area.
A day after a 30-year-old teacher was fatally attacked inside the school premises, classrooms remained deserted, and the institution stayed closed as students, teachers and residents struggled to come to terms with the tragedy.
School authorities have announced a havan on Wednesday to pay tribute to Sandhya Karhaja, whose commitment to teaching had earned her admiration from students and colleagues alike.
Originally from Dabua in Faridabad district, Sandhya had married Vikas Karhaja, popularly known as Vicky, in a love marriage seven years ago before settling in Sikrona.
She had served in several private educational institutions before joining Saraswati Senior Secondary School, where she had been teaching for more than a year.
Monday began like any other working day for Sandhya.
However, according to investigators, around 9.40 am, a masked youth allegedly entered the school campus, reached her classroom, forced her outside and launched a savage knife attack.
Police said she suffered several repeated stab injuries and died from her wounds.
The accused, identified as 21-year-old Amit of neighbouring Kot village, allegedly escaped on a motorcycle but was taken into custody within two hours.
Members of Sandhya’s family alleged that the accused had once been her student at a school where she had previously worked.
They claimed he had developed an unwanted obsession with her, and after she refused to entertain his advances and severed all communication, he allegedly began stalking and harassing her.
Vikas alleged that nearly nine months earlier, his wife had approached the police after the accused repeatedly followed her.
However, he claimed the accused’s relatives persuaded the family to withdraw the complaint by assuring them that they would prevent any further misconduct.
According to the family, the alleged harassment resumed within a few months.
Vikas said he personally met the accused’s family, who again promised that they would resolve the matter internally.
Trusting those assurances, the family decided not to pursue legal proceedings further.
The family’s allegations grew more serious after they claimed the accused openly threatened to eliminate Vikas about a month before the crime.
According to Sandhya’s relatives, the accused allegedly declared that if Sandhya could not become his partner, he would ensure she belonged to no one else.
They alleged that members of his family were fully aware of these threats but failed to intervene and have now demanded that investigators examine whether any relatives played a role in the events leading to the murder.
Vikas also questioned the security arrangements at the educational institution.
He alleged that the suspect managed to enter the campus despite concealing his face by falsely identifying himself as Sandhya’s husband, raising serious concerns about visitor verification procedures.
Back at the family’s residence, grief has engulfed every corner of the household.
Sandhya’s five-year-old son and three-year-old daughter continue searching for their mother, unaware that she will never return home.
Her mother, Sudha Devi, said Sandhya never disclosed the recent threats.
Fighting back tears, she said that had the family known about the danger, they would never have allowed her to continue working under such circumstances.
She described the brutality of the attack as unimaginable.
Recalling her daughter’s life, Sudha Devi said Sandhya had always aspired to become a teacher and had independently chosen her life partner before marrying through a court marriage several years ago.
Sandhya’s elder sister, whose wedding preparations are currently underway, said she had been unable to speak with her younger sister during the past few weeks because of wedding commitments.
She said the manner in which Sandhya was killed had left the family devastated beyond words and asserted that justice would only be achieved if the accused received the harshest punishment permissible under law.
Teachers and students at the school remain traumatised by the incident.
School management acknowledged that the tragedy has deeply affected the entire institution.
Principal Dr. Tejpal Sharma said Sandhya had become a respected member of the faculty and was admired by students for her dedication.
He added that the emotional impact of the incident had forced him to send his own children to relatives because they were unable to cope with the shock.
Describing the sequence of events, Dr. Sharma said he initially believed the screams were caused by an electrical accident because it had been raining.
When he reached the location, he found Sandhya lying injured while the attacker allegedly threatened him with violence.
After briefly retreating to find something to defend himself, he returned only to discover that the accused had escaped.
Police were immediately informed, and Sandhya was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
The school management has announced that it will bear the educational expenses of Sandhya’s two children.
However, the assurance has failed to reduce the family’s anguish, with relatives insisting that only the strongest legal action against the accused would provide a sense of justice.

विद्यालय प्रशासन ने दिवंगत शिक्षिका संध्या करहाजा की स्मृति में बुधवार को हवन आयोजित करने का निर्णय लिया है।
संध्या अपने शांत स्वभाव, अनुशासन और विद्यार्थियों के प्रति समर्पण के कारण विद्यालय में अत्यंत सम्मानित थीं।
फरीदाबाद जिले के दबुआ क्षेत्र की रहने वाली संध्या ने लगभग सात वर्ष पूर्व अपनी पसंद से विकास करहाजा उर्फ विक्की से विवाह किया था।
विवाह के बाद वह सिकरोना में रहने लगीं। उन्होंने क्षेत्र के कई निजी विद्यालयों में अध्यापन किया और बाद में सरस्वती सीनियर सेकेंडरी स्कूल से जुड़ गईं, जहां वह पिछले एक वर्ष से अधिक समय से सेवाएं दे रही थीं।
सोमवार की सुबह भी उनके लिए सामान्य कार्यदिवस की तरह शुरू हुई थी।
पुलिस के अनुसार लगभग सुबह 9.40 बजे एक नकाबपोश युवक विद्यालय परिसर में पहुंचा, कक्षा से संध्या को बाहर खींचा और उन पर चाकू से लगातार वार कर दिए।
गंभीर रूप से घायल शिक्षिका की बाद में मृत्यु हो गई।
पुलिस ने बताया कि पड़ोसी कोट गांव निवासी 21 वर्षीय अमित घटना के बाद मोटरसाइकिल से फरार हो गया, लेकिन दो घंटे के भीतर उसे गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया।
परिजनों का आरोप है कि आरोपी कभी उस विद्यालय का छात्र था, जहां संध्या पहले पढ़ाती थीं। उनके अनुसार युवक ने शिक्षिका के प्रति एकतरफा लगाव विकसित कर लिया था।
प्रस्ताव अस्वीकार किए जाने और बातचीत बंद होने के बाद उसने उनका लगातार पीछा करना और परेशान करना शुरू कर दिया।
संध्या के पति विकास ने बताया कि करीब नौ महीने पहले उनकी पत्नी ने इस संबंध में पुलिस से शिकायत भी की थी।
उनका आरोप है कि बाद में आरोपी के परिजन घर पहुंचकर मामले को आगे न बढ़ाने की विनती करने लगे और भरोसा दिलाया कि भविष्य में ऐसी कोई घटना नहीं होगी।
इसी आश्वासन के बाद शिकायत को आगे नहीं बढ़ाया गया।
परिवार का कहना है कि कुछ समय बाद उत्पीड़न फिर शुरू हो गया। विकास ने बताया कि वह स्वयं आरोपी के घर पहुंचे, जहां एक बार फिर परिजनों ने स्थिति संभालने का आश्वासन दिया।
परिवार ने भरोसा करते हुए दोबारा कानूनी कार्रवाई से परहेज किया।
परिजनों के अनुसार लगभग एक महीने पहले आरोपी ने विकास को जान से मारने की धमकी भी दी थी।
उनका आरोप है कि उसने कहा था कि यदि संध्या उसकी नहीं हो सकती तो वह किसी और की भी नहीं रहने देगा।
परिवार का दावा है कि आरोपी के घरवालों को इन धमकियों की जानकारी थी, फिर भी उन्होंने कोई प्रभावी कदम नहीं उठाया।
अब परिजन जांच एजेंसियों से आरोपी के रिश्तेदारों की भूमिका की भी निष्पक्ष जांच की मांग कर रहे हैं।
विकास ने विद्यालय की सुरक्षा व्यवस्था पर भी गंभीर सवाल उठाए। उनका कहना है कि चेहरा ढका होने के बावजूद आरोपी को केवल स्वयं को संध्या का पति बताने पर परिसर में प्रवेश मिल गया, जिससे सुरक्षा व्यवस्था की गंभीर खामियां उजागर हुई हैं।
दूसरी ओर, परिवार का घर गहरे शोक में डूबा हुआ है। संध्या का पांच वर्षीय बेटा और तीन वर्षीय बेटी अब भी अपनी मां को खोजते हुए परिजनों से लगातार सवाल कर रहे हैं।
संध्या की मां सुधा देवी ने भावुक होकर कहा कि उनकी बेटी ने हाल की धमकियों का कभी जिक्र नहीं किया।
उनका कहना है कि यदि परिवार को खतरे का अंदेशा होता तो वे उसे हर हाल में अपने साथ ले आते। उन्होंने घटना की क्रूरता को असहनीय बताया।
उन्होंने बताया कि संध्या बचपन से ही शिक्षिका बनने का सपना देखती थीं और जीवनसाथी का चयन भी उन्होंने स्वयं किया था। बाद में दोनों ने विधिक प्रक्रिया के तहत विवाह किया था।
संध्या की बड़ी बहन, जिनका विवाह शीघ्र होने वाला है, ने कहा कि शादी की तैयारियों में व्यस्त रहने के कारण पिछले कुछ सप्ताह से दोनों की बातचीत नहीं हो सकी थी।
उन्होंने कहा कि जिस बर्बरता से उनकी बहन की हत्या की गई, उसने पूरे परिवार को भीतर तक तोड़ दिया है। परिवार का कहना है कि उन्हें तभी न्याय मिलेगा जब दोषी को कानून के तहत सबसे कठोर सजा मिले।
घटना के बाद विद्यालय का पूरा वातावरण शोक और भय से भरा हुआ है। शिक्षक और विद्यार्थी मानसिक रूप से गहरे प्रभावित बताए जा रहे हैं।
विद्यालय के प्रधानाचार्य डॉ. तेजपाल शर्मा ने कहा कि संध्या मेहनती और लोकप्रिय शिक्षिका थीं तथा विद्यार्थियों के बीच उनकी विशेष पहचान थी।
उन्होंने बताया कि घटना के मानसिक प्रभाव के कारण उन्होंने अपने बच्चों को भी कुछ समय के लिए रिश्तेदारों के यहां भेज दिया है।
घटना का विवरण देते हुए डॉ. शर्मा ने बताया कि बारिश के कारण उन्हें शुरुआत में लगा कि किसी बच्चे को बिजली का झटका लगा होगा।
जब वह मौके पर पहुंचे तो संध्या गंभीर रूप से घायल अवस्था में पड़ी थीं और आरोपी ने उन्हें भी धमकाया।
उन्होंने बचाव के लिए डंडा लेने का प्रयास किया, लेकिन लौटने तक आरोपी वहां से फरार हो चुका था।
इसके बाद तत्काल पुलिस को सूचना दी गई और संध्या को अस्पताल पहुंचाया गया, जहां चिकित्सकों ने उन्हें मृत घोषित कर दिया।
विद्यालय प्रबंधन ने संध्या के दोनों बच्चों की शिक्षा का पूरा खर्च वहन करने की घोषणा की है।
हालांकि, इस घोषणा से परिवार का दर्द कम नहीं हुआ है। परिजन अब भी दोषी के विरुद्ध कठोरतम कानूनी कार्रवाई की मांग पर अडिग हैं।
