Fatal Road Accident Sparks Violent Protest on Patna’s NH-30, Vehicles Torched and Police Outpost Damaged
A fatal road accident in Patna triggered widespread violence as protesters torched vehicles, damaged public property and clashed with police on NH-30.
Authorities have restored order and launched an investigation into both the accident and the unrest.
Patna: A fatal road accident involving a young man on National Highway-30 in Patna on Friday led to large-scale unrest, with angry demonstrators setting multiple vehicles on fire, damaging public infrastructure and confronting security personnel.
Several individuals, including media personnel, reportedly sustained injuries during the disturbance.
The deceased, identified as 27-year-old Manish, also known as Upendra, reportedly lost his life near Masaurhi Mor in Outer Patna after being struck by a speeding vehicle while crossing the highway.
Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Residents of nearby Takiya village said the victim belonged to Pahari Mohalla. As news of the fatal incident spread, hundreds of local people gathered at the accident site.
Protesters placed the body on the highway, blocked traffic and demanded immediate action against those responsible. The demonstration later escalated into violence.
During the agitation, members of the crowd allegedly torched a passenger bus and caused extensive damage to several other vehicles parked or passing through the area.
Local sources claimed that the bus was involved in the fatal accident, although police officials have not yet confirmed that allegation.
The violence resulted in widespread destruction, with more than six vehicles reportedly damaged due to stone-pelting. Several government vehicles also suffered damage, while at least three motorcycles were set on fire.
Surveillance cameras installed in the locality were vandalised, and a traffic police assistance booth was also damaged. Officials are assessing the extent of the losses caused during the incident.
Senior police officers and district administration officials reached the location to restore normalcy and hold discussions with the agitating crowd.
However, a section of the protesters allegedly hurled stones at security personnel, triggering a tense confrontation.
After sustained efforts, police succeeded in clearing the area and dispersing the gathering from Masaurhi Mor.
The prolonged blockade on NH-30, which severely disrupted vehicular movement for several hours, was eventually removed after police intervention.
Fire service personnel also reached the scene and extinguished the burning vehicles, allowing authorities to begin restoring normal traffic flow.
A senior official stated that residents had staged a road blockade by placing the deceased’s body on the highway after the accident.
He said the law-and-order situation had temporarily deteriorated but was later brought under control through administrative intervention.
The official further confirmed that the obstruction on the highway had been cleared and legal proceedings would be initiated in accordance with established procedures.
He added that the inquest had been completed and the victim’s body was sent for post-mortem examination.
Security has been significantly strengthened in the affected locality to prevent any fresh disturbance.
The district administration said the situation is being monitored continuously, while police officials indicated that those found responsible for arson, vandalism and violence would face strict legal action following identification.
Authorities said no First Information Report (FIR) had been registered by Friday evening either in connection with the fatal road accident or the subsequent violence, while investigations into both incidents remain underway.

प्रदर्शन के दौरान कई वाहनों में आग लगा दी गई, सार्वजनिक संपत्ति को नुकसान पहुंचाया गया और सुरक्षा बलों के साथ झड़प की घटनाएं सामने आईं।
इस दौरान कई लोगों के घायल होने की सूचना है, जिनमें कुछ पत्रकार भी शामिल बताए जा रहे हैं।
यह दुर्घटना आउटर पटना स्थित राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग-30 पर मसौढ़ी मोड़ के समीप हुई, जहां लगभग 27 वर्षीय मनीष उर्फ उपेंद्र सड़क पार करने के दौरान एक तेज रफ्तार वाहन की चपेट में आ गए।
टक्कर इतनी गंभीर थी कि उनकी मौके पर ही मौत हो गई। पुलिस पूरे घटनाक्रम की जांच कर रही है।
स्थानीय लोगों के अनुसार, मृतक पास के तकिया गांव के पहाड़ी मोहल्ले का निवासी था।
हादसे की सूचना मिलते ही बड़ी संख्या में ग्रामीण और स्थानीय नागरिक घटनास्थल पर पहुंच गए।
आक्रोशित लोगों ने शव को राजमार्ग पर रखकर आवागमन रोक दिया और जिम्मेदार लोगों के खिलाफ तत्काल कार्रवाई की मांग की। देखते ही देखते प्रदर्शन उग्र हो गया।
विरोध के दौरान प्रदर्शनकारियों ने कथित रूप से एक यात्री बस को आग के हवाले कर दिया और कई अन्य वाहनों में भी तोड़फोड़ की।
स्थानीय स्तर पर यह दावा किया गया कि इसी निजी बस से दुर्घटना हुई थी, हालांकि पुलिस ने अभी तक इस संबंध में आधिकारिक पुष्टि नहीं की है।
हिंसा के दौरान पथराव से आधा दर्जन से अधिक वाहन क्षतिग्रस्त हो गए। प्रशासनिक उपयोग के कुछ वाहनों को भी नुकसान पहुंचा, जबकि कम से कम तीन मोटरसाइकिलों को आग के हवाले कर दिया गया।
इलाके में लगे सीसीटीवी कैमरों को तोड़ दिया गया और यातायात पुलिस सहायता केंद्र में भी व्यापक क्षति पहुंचाई गई। प्रशासन नुकसान का आकलन कर रहा है।
स्थिति को नियंत्रित करने के लिए वरिष्ठ पुलिस अधिकारी और जिला प्रशासन की टीम मौके पर पहुंची तथा प्रदर्शनकारियों को शांतिपूर्वक हटाने का प्रयास किया।
इस दौरान भीड़ के एक हिस्से द्वारा सुरक्षाकर्मियों पर पथराव किए जाने से तनाव और बढ़ गया। बाद में पुलिस ने कार्रवाई करते हुए मसौढ़ी मोड़ क्षेत्र को खाली कराया और हालात पर नियंत्रण स्थापित किया।
लंबे समय तक जारी सड़क जाम के कारण राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग-30 पर यातायात पूरी तरह प्रभावित रहा। पुलिस कार्रवाई के बाद अवरोध हटाया गया और दमकल विभाग की टीम ने मौके पर पहुंचकर आग पर काबू पाया।
इसके बाद धीरे-धीरे वाहनों की आवाजाही सामान्य हो सकी।
एक वरिष्ठ अधिकारी ने बताया कि दुर्घटना के बाद स्थानीय लोगों ने शव रखकर सड़क अवरुद्ध कर दी थी, जिससे कुछ समय के लिए कानून-व्यवस्था की स्थिति प्रभावित हुई।
उन्होंने कहा कि प्रशासन ने समय रहते हालात को नियंत्रित कर लिया है।
अधिकारी ने यह भी बताया कि राजमार्ग से अवरोध हटाया जा चुका है तथा पूरे मामले में विधिक प्रक्रिया के अनुसार आगे की कार्रवाई की जाएगी।
मृतक का पंचनामा पूरा कर शव को पोस्टमार्टम के लिए भेज दिया गया है।
क्षेत्र में किसी भी नई अप्रिय घटना को रोकने के लिए अतिरिक्त पुलिस बल की तैनाती जारी है। जिला प्रशासन लगातार हालात पर नजर बनाए हुए है।
पुलिस अधिकारियों ने कहा है कि आगजनी, तोड़फोड़ और हिंसा में शामिल लोगों की पहचान कर उनके विरुद्ध सख्त कानूनी कार्रवाई की जाएगी।
पुलिस के अनुसार, शुक्रवार देर शाम तक सड़क दुर्घटना और उसके बाद हुई हिंसा, दोनों मामलों में कोई प्राथमिकी दर्ज नहीं की गई थी। दोनों घटनाओं की जांच अलग-अलग स्तरों पर जारी है।
