Fatehpur School Protest Followed by Mystery as Class X Girl Vanishes, Police Rule Out Link So Far
A peaceful demonstration by nearly 1,000 students over crumbling infrastructure at a government-aided school in Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur has been overshadowed by the unexplained disappearance of a 16-year-old Class X student, triggering anxiety among residents and an intensive police search.
Investigators, however, have maintained that no evidence has yet emerged connecting the student’s disappearance with the protest held on the school campus.
The unusual agitation unfolded on July 28 at Sarvodaya Inter College in Kishanpur, where students from Classes VI to XII assembled outside the institution carrying placards, banners and a portrait of Dr B R Ambedkar.
Their four-hour demonstration highlighted long-standing complaints over unsafe classrooms, leaking roofs, inadequate drinking water facilities and other basic amenities that they said had been ignored for years.
The protest concluded around noon after Fatehpur District Inspector of Schools (DIOS) Rakesh Kumar met representatives of the students and assured them that immediate steps would be initiated to improve the school’s infrastructure.
Following the assurance, the students dispersed and normal activity resumed.
Amid the dispersal, one student failed to return to her residence, setting off an alarm within her family.
The Class X girl, who had travelled nearly eight kilometres to school on her bicycle, remained untraceable even after repeated attempts by relatives to contact her.
As concern mounted, family members approached classmates, teachers, relatives and acquaintances hoping someone had seen her after school hours.
When every effort proved unsuccessful, a missing person’s complaint was lodged at Kishanpur police station on July 29.
Her mother, Asha Devi, said the family had confirmed that the teenager reached the school on the morning of July 28 before the protest began.
“Teachers and fellow students told me she had attended school and that a protest was taking place there.
After that, nobody could tell us where she went. We searched everywhere before approaching the police, but we still have no clue,” she said.
The missing girl, the eldest among four siblings, has been shouldering additional responsibilities at home after the death of her father last year, making her sudden disappearance even more distressing for the family.
Kishanpur Station House Officer Manish Singh rejected speculation that the student’s disappearance was linked to the campus protest.
According to the investigation conducted so far, the teenager apparently saw the gathering outside the school and instead went to the residence of one of her friends.
Police said she requested the friend’s mother to allow her to change out of her school uniform, claiming she needed to attend a family function.
The request was declined, after which she reportedly left the house alone.
Investigators subsequently analysed CCTV recordings from the surrounding area and traced her movements to a location near a bus stand, where she was last seen carrying her school bag while still dressed in her school uniform.
Her bicycle was later recovered abandoned on the roadside, adding another layer of mystery to the case.
Additional Superintendent of Police Gyan Prakash Rai said multiple police teams had been constituted to trace the teenager.
He said investigators were examining CCTV footage from different routes and had registered a case as part of the ongoing investigation.
College principal Lal Bahadur Singh said the institution was fully cooperating with investigators.
According to him, school authorities could only confirm that the student had arrived on campus that morning, while everything that happened afterwards remained under police investigation.
Speaking about the student demonstration, the principal said the administration had no prior information that such a protest was being planned.
He added that work had already begun on addressing the students’ concerns, including installation of ceiling fans in every classroom and arrangements for RO-purified drinking water.
The principal further pointed out that the institution was functioning under severe pressure.
Although the government-aided school has a sanctioned capacity of only 850 students, it currently accommodates nearly 1,850 children from Classes VI to XII.
With merely 21 teachers, including the principal, and only 14 classrooms, the school remains the lone secondary institution serving villages within an eight-kilometre radius.

उत्तर प्रदेश के फतेहपुर जिले में एक सरकारी सहायता प्राप्त विद्यालय में जर्जर बुनियादी सुविधाओं के खिलाफ लगभग एक हजार विद्यार्थियों द्वारा किए गए शांतिपूर्ण प्रदर्शन के बाद 16 वर्षीय कक्षा 10 की छात्रा के रहस्यमय ढंग से लापता होने से पूरे इलाके में चिंता का माहौल है।
हालांकि पुलिस का कहना है कि अब तक की जांच में छात्रा के गायब होने और छात्र आंदोलन के बीच किसी प्रकार का प्रत्यक्ष संबंध सामने नहीं आया है।
यह विरोध प्रदर्शन 28 जुलाई को किशनपुर कस्बे स्थित सर्वोदय इंटर कॉलेज में हुआ, जहां कक्षा 6 से 12 तक के विद्यार्थियों ने हाथों में तख्तियां, बैनर और डॉ. भीमराव आंबेडकर का चित्र लेकर विद्यालय परिसर के बाहर प्रदर्शन किया।
छात्रों ने जर्जर कक्षाओं, टपकती छतों, सुरक्षित पेयजल की कमी तथा अन्य मूलभूत सुविधाओं के अभाव को लेकर आवाज बुलंद की।
करीब चार घंटे तक चले इस प्रदर्शन का समापन दोपहर के आसपास उस समय हुआ जब फतेहपुर के जिला विद्यालय निरीक्षक (डीआईओएस) राकेश कुमार मौके पर पहुंचे और छात्रों को भरोसा दिया कि उनकी मांगों पर शीघ्र कार्रवाई की जाएगी।
आश्वासन मिलने के बाद विद्यार्थी अपने-अपने घरों के लिए रवाना हो गए।
इसी बीच कक्षा 10 की एक छात्रा घर नहीं पहुंची, जिससे उसके परिवार की चिंता बढ़ गई। वह उस दिन अपने घर से लगभग आठ किलोमीटर दूर स्थित विद्यालय साइकिल से गई थी, लेकिन शाम तक उसका कोई सुराग नहीं मिला।
परिजन पहले अपने स्तर पर उसकी तलाश में जुट गए। उन्होंने सहपाठियों, शिक्षकों, रिश्तेदारों और परिचितों से संपर्क किया, लेकिन कहीं से भी कोई जानकारी नहीं मिली। लगातार तलाश के बाद 29 जुलाई को किशनपुर थाने में उसकी गुमशुदगी की रिपोर्ट दर्ज कराई गई।
छात्रा की मां आशा देवी ने बताया कि उन्हें यह जानकारी मिली थी कि उनकी बेटी सुबह विद्यालय पहुंची थी और उसी दौरान वहां प्रदर्शन चल रहा था। उन्होंने कहा, “सहपाठियों और शिक्षकों ने बताया कि वह स्कूल आई थी।
प्रदर्शन के बाद वह कहां गई, किसी को पता नहीं है। हमने हर जगह तलाश की, लेकिन जब कोई सुराग नहीं मिला तो पुलिस के पास जाना पड़ा।”
चार भाई-बहनों में सबसे बड़ी यह छात्रा पिछले वर्ष पिता के निधन के बाद परिवार की जिम्मेदारियों में भी हाथ बंटा रही थी। ऐसे में उसका अचानक लापता हो जाना परिवार के लिए गहरे सदमे का कारण बन गया है।
किशनपुर थाना प्रभारी मनीष सिंह ने प्रदर्शन और छात्रा की गुमशुदगी के बीच किसी प्रकार के संबंध से इनकार किया। उनके अनुसार शुरुआती जांच से संकेत मिले हैं कि छात्रा ने विद्यालय के बाहर चल रहे प्रदर्शन को देखा और वहां रुकने के बजाय अपनी एक सहेली के घर चली गई।
पुलिस के मुताबिक छात्रा ने सहेली की मां से स्कूल यूनिफॉर्म बदलने की अनुमति मांगी और बताया कि उसे किसी पारिवारिक समारोह में जाना है। अनुमति नहीं मिलने पर वह वहां से चली गई।
इसके बाद पुलिस ने आसपास लगे सीसीटीवी कैमरों की फुटेज खंगाली। जांच में छात्रा आखिरी बार एक बस स्टैंड के निकट स्कूल यूनिफॉर्म और बैग के साथ दिखाई दी।
उसकी साइकिल बाद में सड़क किनारे लावारिस अवस्था में बरामद हुई, जिससे पूरे मामले ने और रहस्यमय रूप ले लिया।
फतेहपुर के अपर पुलिस अधीक्षक ज्ञान प्रकाश राय ने बताया कि छात्रा की तलाश के लिए कई पुलिस टीमों का गठन किया गया है।
विभिन्न स्थानों की सीसीटीवी रिकॉर्डिंग की जांच की जा रही है और मामले में विधिक कार्रवाई भी शुरू कर दी गई है।
विद्यालय के प्रधानाचार्य लाल बहादुर सिंह ने कहा कि संस्थान जांच एजेंसियों को पूरा सहयोग दे रहा है।
उन्होंने बताया कि स्कूल प्रशासन केवल इतना पुष्टि कर सकता है कि छात्रा 28 जुलाई की सुबह विद्यालय पहुंची थी, जबकि उसके बाद की घटनाओं की जांच पुलिस कर रही है।
प्रदर्शन के संबंध में प्रधानाचार्य ने कहा कि विद्यालय प्रशासन को पहले से इसकी कोई जानकारी नहीं थी।
उन्होंने बताया कि छात्रों द्वारा उठाए गए मुद्दों पर कार्रवाई शुरू कर दी गई है और सभी कक्षाओं में पंखे लगाए जा रहे हैं, जबकि आरओ आधारित शुद्ध पेयजल की व्यवस्था भी की जा रही है।
उन्होंने यह भी बताया कि विद्यालय लंबे समय से संसाधनों की भारी कमी से जूझ रहा है। सरकार द्वारा स्वीकृत क्षमता केवल 850 विद्यार्थियों की है, जबकि वर्तमान में यहां लगभग 1,850 छात्र-छात्राएं अध्ययन कर रहे हैं।
पूरे विद्यालय में प्रधानाचार्य सहित केवल 21 शिक्षक और मात्र 14 कक्षाएं हैं। आठ किलोमीटर के दायरे में कक्षा 6 से 12 तक शिक्षा उपलब्ध कराने वाला यह एकमात्र विद्यालय होने के कारण यहां लगातार दबाव बना हुआ है।
