Officer Dies After Dumper Hits Motorcycle During Late-Night Operation in Pratapgarh; Vehicles Seized, Suspects Detained
JAIPUR: A 40-year-old forest ranger was killed in Rajasthan’s Pratapgarh district while attempting to stop a dumper suspected of being involved in illegal mining, officials said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred late Monday night in the Chhoti Sadri area, near the Ghatiwale Balaji temple, when a forest department team moved into the area following information about suspected illegal excavation.
Forest Ranger Pratap Singh Chundawat was pursuing the dumper when the vehicle collided with his motorcycle.
Chundawat sustained critical injuries in the incident and was rushed to a hospital in Nimbahera. Despite treatment, he died from his injuries, police said.
According to officials, the forest team had gone to the site after receiving information that soil was allegedly being excavated and transported illegally.
When the dumper attempted to leave the area, the forest personnel followed it.
Chhoti Sadri police said the dumper struck Chundawat and his Royal Enfield motorcycle.
The motorcycle was reportedly dragged for several metres following the impact.
Pratapgarh Superintendent of Police Vishal Jangid visited the scene on Tuesday and reviewed the investigation. Police also examined the route taken by the dumper and the location where the suspected excavation had taken place.
The dumper and a JCB machine allegedly connected with the operation were taken into custody.
Several people were also detained for questioning as investigators sought to establish the circumstances leading to the ranger’s death.
Police said a case was being registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and mining-related laws.
Investigators were examining evidence from the site and questioning those detained.
Chundawat’s death has drawn attention to the risks faced by forest personnel working to prevent illegal extraction of natural resources.
He was known within the department for his fieldwork and efforts related to forest and wildlife protection.
His last rites were performed with full state honours on Tuesday.
Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasara condemned the incident and described the ranger’s death as a serious law-and-order issue.
He questioned the circumstances in which those allegedly involved in illegal mining could operate with such confidence.
The investigation remains underway, with police working to determine the exact sequence of events and the responsibility of those involved.

जयपुर: राजस्थान के प्रतापगढ़ जिले में संदिग्ध अवैध खनन के खिलाफ कार्रवाई के दौरान 40 वर्षीय वन रेंजर प्रताप सिंह चुंडावत की मौत हो गई।
अधिकारियों के अनुसार, सोमवार देर रात छोटी सादड़ी इलाके में एक डंपर को रोकने की कोशिश के दौरान उनकी मोटरसाइकिल को टक्कर मार दी गई।
घटना घाटीवाले बालाजी मंदिर के आसपास वन क्षेत्र में हुई। वन विभाग की टीम को इलाके में कथित रूप से अवैध रूप से मिट्टी निकाले जाने की सूचना मिली थी। इसके बाद टीम मौके पर पहुंची थी।
पुलिस के मुताबिक, कार्रवाई के दौरान संदिग्ध रूप से खनन की गई मिट्टी ले जा रहा डंपर वहां से निकलने लगा। वनकर्मियों ने उसका पीछा किया। इसी दौरान डंपर की टक्कर रेंजर की रॉयल एनफील्ड मोटरसाइकिल से हो गई।
टक्कर में चुंडावत गंभीर रूप से घायल हो गए। उन्हें तत्काल निम्बाहेड़ा के अस्पताल ले जाया गया, जहां इलाज के दौरान उनकी मौत हो गई। पुलिस के अनुसार, टक्कर के बाद मोटरसाइकिल को डंपर कुछ दूरी तक घसीटता हुआ ले गया।
घटना की जानकारी मिलने के बाद प्रतापगढ़ के पुलिस अधीक्षक विशाल जांगिड़ मौके पर पहुंचे और जांच की समीक्षा की।
अधिकारियों ने डंपर के आने-जाने के रास्ते तथा उस स्थान का भी निरीक्षण किया जहां कथित तौर पर मिट्टी की खुदाई की जा रही थी।
पुलिस ने मामले में इस्तेमाल किए गए डंपर और जेसीबी को जब्त कर लिया है। कुछ संदिग्धों को हिरासत में लेकर उनसे पूछताछ की जा रही है।
पुलिस का कहना है कि घटना से जुड़े सभी पहलुओं की जांच की जा रही है।
मामले में भारतीय न्याय संहिता की संबंधित धाराओं के साथ-साथ खनन कानून के प्रावधानों के तहत कार्रवाई की जा रही है।
प्रताप सिंह चुंडावत वन एवं वन्यजीव संरक्षण से जुड़े कार्यों के लिए विभाग में जाने जाते थे। उनके निधन के बाद विभागीय अधिकारियों और सहयोगियों में शोक की लहर है।
चुंडावत का अंतिम संस्कार मंगलवार को राजकीय सम्मान के साथ किया गया।
राजस्थान कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष गोविंद सिंह डोटासरा ने घटना पर दुख और चिंता जताते हुए इसे गंभीर कानून-व्यवस्था का मामला बताया। उन्होंने अवैध खनन में शामिल लोगों के खिलाफ कार्रवाई को लेकर भी सवाल उठाए।
पुलिस अब यह पता लगाने में जुटी है कि घटना से ठीक पहले मौके पर क्या हुआ था और डंपर की गतिविधियों तथा रेंजर की मौत के बीच पूरी घटनाक्रम की कड़ी क्या थी।
