France Plane Crash: 11 Killed as Skydiving Aircraft Goes Down Near Nancy, Families Left Devastated
A routine skydiving training flight ended in unimaginable heartbreak on Sunday after a small aircraft carrying members of a parachuting school crashed near the town of Tomblaine in northeastern France, claiming the lives of all 11 people on board.
The tragic accident occurred close to the airfield near Nancy in the Meurthe-et-Moselle region, leaving families, friends and the local community in deep mourning.
Authorities confirmed that no one on the ground was injured, but the devastating loss has sent shockwaves across the country.
According to officials, the aircraft was carrying a pilot along with 10 occupants—five trainee skydivers and five instructors.
None of them survived the crash.
What was meant to be a day of learning and adventure instead ended in one of the region’s deadliest aviation tragedies in recent memory.
Soon after the crash, police sealed off the area and appealed to residents to stay away from the airport and its surroundings to allow emergency crews and investigators to carry out rescue and recovery operations without obstruction.
French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez immediately left for the accident site, while Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot also travelled to the scene, describing the incident as a “tragedy” that had plunged the nation into grief.
Speaking to reporters, Meurthe-et-Moselle prefect Yves Séguy said the aircraft suddenly lost altitude and crashed just moments after take-off, falling within the immediate vicinity of the airfield.
He noted that the outcome could have been even more catastrophic had the aircraft come down only a few metres away.
“Just a small difference in the crash location could have resulted in casualties on the ground,” Séguy said, while confirming that emergency responders reached the site within minutes.
Investigators have also begun recording statements from eyewitnesses to determine what caused the fatal accident.
Adding another heartbreaking dimension to the tragedy, Thierry Pechey, president of the Meurthe-et-Moselle branch of the Order of Independent Nurses, said that nearly half of those who lost their lives were nurses who had joined the skydiving trip.
The pain was made even more unbearable as several relatives of the victims were reportedly waiting at the airfield when the aircraft crashed.
Many witnessed the horrifying moments that turned what should have been a joyful outing into an unforgettable tragedy.
Authorities have launched a full investigation into the cause of the crash, while France mourns the loss of 11 lives cut short in a disaster that has left countless families grieving and an entire community searching for answers.

दुर्घटना के तुरंत बाद पुलिस ने पूरे इलाके को घेर लिया और लोगों से एयरफील्ड तथा उसके आसपास के क्षेत्र से दूर रहने की अपील की। बचाव और जांच दलों को बिना किसी बाधा के काम करने देने के लिए प्रशासन ने क्षेत्र में आवाजाही सीमित कर दी।
फ्रांस के गृह मंत्री लॉरेंट नुनेज़ तुरंत घटनास्थल के लिए रवाना हो गए। वहीं, परिवहन मंत्री फिलिप तबारो ने भी दुर्घटना स्थल का दौरा करने का फैसला किया। उन्होंने इस हादसे को “बेहद भयावह त्रासदी” बताते हुए कहा कि पूरा देश इस अपूरणीय क्षति से स्तब्ध और शोकाकुल है।
मेउर्थ-ए-मोसेल क्षेत्र के प्रीफेक्ट यव सेगुई ने पत्रकारों को बताया कि विमान ने अचानक नियंत्रण खो दिया और एयरफील्ड के बिल्कुल समीप आकर जमीन से टकरा गया। उन्होंने कहा कि यदि विमान कुछ मीटर इधर-उधर गिरता, तो जमीन पर मौजूद लोगों की भी जान जा सकती थी और हादसा कहीं अधिक भयावह रूप ले सकता था।
सेगुई ने बताया कि सूचना मिलते ही आपातकालीन सेवाएं कुछ ही मिनटों में मौके पर पहुंच गईं। अब जांच एजेंसियां प्रत्यक्षदर्शियों के बयान दर्ज कर रही हैं ताकि यह पता लगाया जा सके कि आखिर विमान हादसे की वजह क्या थी।
इस दुर्घटना ने इसलिए भी लोगों को झकझोर दिया क्योंकि मेउर्थ-ए-मोसेल शाखा के ऑर्डर ऑफ इंडिपेंडेंट नर्सेज के अध्यक्ष थिएरी पेशे ने बताया कि हादसे में जान गंवाने वालों में लगभग आधे लोग नर्स थे। वे अपने व्यस्त पेशे से कुछ पल निकालकर स्काइडाइविंग का अनुभव लेने पहुंचे थे, लेकिन यह सफर उनकी जिंदगी का आखिरी सफर बन गया।
