From Operation Sindoor to Ram Mandir: Meet Jeetendra Mishra, the Trust’s First CEO
Decorated former Western Air Command chief brings combat planning, test-flying and nearly four decades of military leadership to Ayodhya temple administration.
NEW DELHI: The man chosen to become the first Chief Executive Officer of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust carries an unusual profile for a temple administrator: nearly four decades in the Indian Air Force, more than 3,000 flying hours and a senior command role during Operation Sindoor.
Air Marshal (retd.) Jeetendra Mishra, who retired on April 30 as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Air Command, was among the senior military officers involved in planning India’s response to the Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent confrontation with Pakistan.
His appointment places a decorated former fighter pilot at the centre of the administrative machinery overseeing the Ram Mandir.
Mishra’s military career has included operational command, aircraft testing, strategic planning and senior assignments at Air Headquarters—experience that is now expected to be brought into the management of the temple trust.
The Western Air Command, under Mishra’s leadership, was placed on a high operational footing following the April 2025 terror attack in Pahalgam, in which 26 people were killed.
India subsequently launched Operation Sindoor, triggering a four-day military confrontation with Pakistan involving aircraft, missiles, drones, long-range weapons and artillery.
Sources familiar with the planning process said Mishra was closely involved in identifying targets in Pakistan and assessing the weapons that could be employed while keeping the possibility of collateral damage as low as possible.
The command he headed remained a key component of India’s military preparedness throughout the operation.
The confrontation ended with an understanding between India and Pakistan on May 10, 2025, to halt military action.
Mishra was later awarded the Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal in recognition of his contribution to the operation.
His standing within the armed forces is also reflected in the breadth of responsibilities he handled over the years.
Mishra commanded a fighter squadron and served as chief test pilot at the Aircraft & Systems Testing Establishment, an institution associated with the evaluation of military aircraft and systems.
He subsequently led two frontline air bases and held important appointments involving operational planning and capability development.
His assignments also included Director of the Operational Planning and Assessment Group and Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Projects) at Air Headquarters.
Mishra later returned to ASTE as its Commandant and went on to serve as Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff for Doctrine, Organisation and Training.
The sequence of postings gave him exposure not only to flying and field operations but also to planning, organisation and institutional management.
A fighter combat leader and experimental test pilot, Mishra accumulated over 3,000 hours in the air during his service.
His professional trajectory began with operational flying and gradually expanded into senior command and strategic responsibilities.
The former air chief also accompanied Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Adampur air base in Punjab following Operation Sindoor.
The visit came against the backdrop of an extensive Pakistani disinformation campaign and was intended to demonstrate India’s military preparedness.
Mishra traces his roots to Bhopatpura village in the Bhatpar Rani area of Deoria district in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
His transition from the command structure of the Air Force to the administration of one of India’s most prominent religious institutions marks a notable second chapter in his public service career.
At the Ram Janmabhoomi Trust, Mishra will now have to apply a very different set of skills.
Yet the experience that defined his military career—planning complex operations, managing large organisations, taking decisions under pressure and maintaining institutional discipline—is precisely what the Trust is seeking as it strengthens its administrative framework.

नई दिल्ली: श्री राम जन्मभूमि तीर्थ क्षेत्र ट्रस्ट के पहले मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी (CEO) के रूप में चुने गए एयर मार्शल (सेवानिवृत्त) जीतेंद्र मिश्रा का नया दायित्व उनके लंबे सैन्य करियर से बिल्कुल अलग क्षेत्र में है।
लेकिन करीब चार दशक तक भारतीय वायुसेना में कमान, रणनीतिक योजना और संचालन का अनुभव अब अयोध्या में राम मंदिर के प्रशासन में काम आएगा।
मिश्रा 30 अप्रैल को पश्चिमी वायु कमान के एयर ऑफिसर कमांडिंग-इन-चीफ के पद से सेवानिवृत्त हुए थे।
अपने कार्यकाल के अंतिम चरण में वह उन वरिष्ठ सैन्य अधिकारियों में शामिल थे, जिन्होंने पहलगाम आतंकी हमले के बाद भारत की सैन्य प्रतिक्रिया की तैयारी में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई।
22 अप्रैल 2025 को पहलगाम में हुए आतंकी हमले में 26 लोगों की मौत के बाद भारत ने ऑपरेशन सिंदूर शुरू किया।
इसके बाद भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच चार दिनों तक सैन्य टकराव चला, जिसमें लड़ाकू विमानों, मिसाइलों, ड्रोन, लंबी दूरी के हथियारों और भारी तोपखाने का इस्तेमाल हुआ।
ऑपरेशन की तैयारी के दौरान पश्चिमी वायु कमान महत्वपूर्ण परिचालन केंद्रों में शामिल था।
मामले से परिचित लोगों के मुताबिक, मिश्रा पाकिस्तान में संभावित लक्ष्यों के चयन और उनके खिलाफ इस्तेमाल किए जाने वाले हथियारों के आकलन की प्रक्रिया में करीब से जुड़े थे।
अभियान की योजना में इस बात पर भी ध्यान दिया गया कि सैन्य कार्रवाई के दौरान अनावश्यक नुकसान की आशंका कम से कम रहे।
10 मई 2025 को भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच सैन्य कार्रवाई रोकने पर सहमति बनने के साथ यह टकराव थमा।
ऑपरेशन सिंदूर में उनकी भूमिका के लिए मिश्रा को सर्वोत्तम युद्ध सेवा पदक से सम्मानित किया गया।
वायुसेना में उनकी पहचान केवल एक वरिष्ठ कमांडर के तौर पर नहीं रही। वह फाइटर कॉम्बैट लीडर और एक्सपेरिमेंटल टेस्ट पायलट रहे तथा उनके नाम 3,000 घंटे से अधिक की उड़ान का अनुभव है।
सैन्य विमानों और प्रणालियों की क्षमता परखने से लेकर वास्तविक युद्धक तैयारियों तक, उन्होंने करियर के अलग-अलग चरणों में महत्वपूर्ण जिम्मेदारियां संभालीं।
मिश्रा ने एक फाइटर स्क्वाड्रन के कमांडिंग ऑफिसर के रूप में भी सेवा दी। इसके बाद वह एयरक्राफ्ट एंड सिस्टम्स टेस्टिंग एस्टैब्लिशमेंट (ASTE) में चीफ टेस्ट पायलट रहे।
यह संस्थान सैन्य विमानों और संबंधित प्रणालियों के परीक्षण एवं मूल्यांकन में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाता है।
उनके करियर में दो अग्रिम वायु ठिकानों के एयर ऑफिसर कमांडिंग का दायित्व भी आया।
एयर हेडक्वार्टर में उन्होंने ऑपरेशनल प्लानिंग एंड असेसमेंट ग्रुप के निदेशक और असिस्टेंट चीफ ऑफ एयर स्टाफ (प्रोजेक्ट्स) जैसे पदों पर काम किया।
बाद में मिश्रा ASTE के कमांडेंट बने और इंटीग्रेटेड डिफेंस स्टाफ में डिप्टी चीफ के रूप में भी जिम्मेदारी निभाई।
इस पद पर उनका कार्यक्षेत्र डॉक्ट्रिन, ऑर्गनाइजेशन और ट्रेनिंग से जुड़ा था। इस तरह उनका अनुभव केवल युद्धक उड़ान तक सीमित नहीं रहा, बल्कि संगठन संचालन और दीर्घकालिक सैन्य योजना तक फैला।
ऑपरेशन सिंदूर के बाद मिश्रा प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी के साथ पंजाब के आदमपुर एयरबेस भी गए थे।
यह दौरा ऐसे समय हुआ जब पाकिस्तान की ओर से भारत के खिलाफ व्यापक दुष्प्रचार अभियान चलाया जा रहा था।
यात्रा के जरिए भारत की सैन्य तैयारियों और क्षमता का संदेश देने की कोशिश की गई थी।
पूर्व एयर मार्शल का संबंध पूर्वी उत्तर प्रदेश के देवरिया जिले के भाटपार रानी क्षेत्र के भोपालतपुर गांव से है।
अब उनका करियर एक नए मोड़ पर पहुंच गया है, जहां लड़ाकू विमानों और सैन्य अभियानों की जगह अयोध्या के राम मंदिर से जुड़े प्रशासनिक दायित्व उनकी प्राथमिकता होंगे।
राम मंदिर ट्रस्ट में उनकी भूमिका सैन्य कमान से अलग जरूर है, लेकिन उनके लंबे अनुभव के कई पहलू नई जिम्मेदारी में उपयोगी साबित हो सकते हैं।
बड़े अभियानों की योजना बनाना, जटिल व्यवस्थाओं का संचालन, दबाव के बीच निर्णय लेना और संस्थागत अनुशासन बनाए रखना उनके सैन्य जीवन की प्रमुख विशेषताएं रही हैं।
यही अनुभव अब राम मंदिर प्रशासन को अधिक व्यवस्थित ढांचा देने में इस्तेमाल किया जा सकता है।
