Two decades after Golmaal: Fun Unlimited first arrived in cinemas and redefined Bollywood comedy, the much-loved franchise is preparing for another chapter.
As the original film completes 20 years since its release on July 14, 2006, writer Farhad Samji says the team is determined to make Golmaal 5 the most entertaining installment in the series.
Directed by Rohit Shetty, the film has already completed a major shooting schedule, with production progressing steadily.
Reflecting on the franchise’s enduring popularity, Samji believes one of its greatest strengths lies in its well-established characters.
Unlike a completely new project, where writers must build personalities and relationships from the beginning, Golmaal offers a world that audiences already know and cherish.
Speaking after the release of Welcome to the Jungle, Samji said the familiarity of characters gives him greater creative freedom.
He pointed out that fan-favourite personalities, including the iconic mute character, have already earned a place in viewers’ hearts.
As a result, the writing can focus more on fresh comic situations, humorous interactions, and stronger emotional bonds instead of spending time introducing the characters.
According to the writer, this continuity has played a significant role in helping the Golmaal franchise remain one of Hindi cinema’s most successful comedy series for the past 20 years.
The recurring characters and their chemistry have allowed audiences across generations to build a lasting emotional connection with the films.
For Samji, however, Golmaal represents far more than professional success. Having been associated with five films in the franchise, he says the series has become an inseparable part of his life.

The announcement video reunited franchise regulars Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Kemmu and Tusshar Kapoor.
It also confirmed the long-awaited return of Sharman Joshi, who has been absent from the series since the original film.
Adding to the excitement, actor Akshay Kumar surprised fans by announcing his association with the franchise.

घोषणा वीडियो में अजय देवगन, अरशद वारसी, श्रेयस तलपड़े, कुणाल खेमू और तुषार कपूर एक बार फिर साथ नजर आए। इसके साथ ही पहली फिल्म के लंबे अंतराल के बाद शर्मन जोशी की वापसी की भी पुष्टि हुई।
फिल्म की सबसे बड़ी सरप्राइज एंट्री अभिनेता अक्षय कुमार की रही। पहली बार वे गोलमाल फ्रेंचाइज़ी का हिस्सा बनने जा रहे हैं, जिससे दर्शकों की उम्मीदें और भी बढ़ गई हैं।
