Imran Khan’s Son Tells PTI Workers: Keep Away From Adiala Jail on September 27
Kasim Khan issues fresh appeal as Pakistan tightens restrictions in Punjab and steps up security ahead of PTI’s planned mobilisation.
ISLAMABAD: A fresh warning from Imran Khan’s family has added another dimension to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s planned September 27 mobilisation, with the jailed former prime minister’s son asking party supporters to keep away from the prison where his father is being held.
Kasim Khan said he was concerned that a large gathering outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi could create a situation that authorities might use to justify action inside or around the prison.
He specifically urged supporters not to make the jail a focal point of the protest, saying his father’s safety could be compromised if tensions escalated there.
In a message posted on X, Kasim said information reaching him had prompted the warning.
He referred to the possibility of a “counter” operation at the prison and urged supporters not to create circumstances that could subsequently be cited as the cause of an incident involving Imran Khan.
The intervention comes as PTI prepares for a major mobilisation centred on its demand for the release of its founder.
Khan has remained imprisoned since 2023 after convictions in several cases. PTI has consistently challenged the cases and described the legal action against its leader as politically driven.
Punjab puts sweeping restrictions in place.
The proposed demonstration is being held against a backdrop of increasingly stringent restrictions in Punjab.
The provincial administration has brought Section 144 into effect from September 23 through October 5. The measure restricts public assembly, including gatherings of five or more people in public areas and on roads.
Officials have also sought assistance from the Pakistan Rangers in several districts, including Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Mianwali, as part of the security arrangements surrounding the protest.
The government notification cited security concerns and referred to what it described as an immediate threat to public peace from militant and terrorist organisations as well as hostile intelligence agencies.
That justification has been presented by the authorities as the basis for the preventive measures rather than as a measure directed solely at PTI. Nevertheless, the restrictions encompass the period in which the party intends to mobilise its supporters.
Khan family drawn deeper into political confrontation
The security clampdown has coincided with the detention of three of Imran Khan’s sisters, turning the former prime minister’s family into another point of confrontation between PTI and the authorities.
Aleema Khan was detained first. Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi were subsequently placed under preventive detention for 30 days under Punjab’s Maintenance of Public Order law.
The two women have challenged their detention before the Lahore High Court. During Thursday’s proceedings, their lawyers argued that neither woman was a political figure and questioned the legal justification for keeping them in custody.
The court did not immediately suspend the detention orders. Instead, it issued notices to the relevant authorities and sought their response before deciding how to proceed with the petitions.
The detention of the sisters has become an additional source of friction at a time when the government is already preparing for a potentially large PTI gathering.
Kasim alleges relatives were taken from their homes
Kasim had earlier taken to social media to protest the detention of his relatives. He alleged that members of the family had been taken away from their homes and said he wanted the international community to take notice.
Those allegations have come from Khan’s family and supporters and have not been independently established. Authorities have maintained that preventive measures are connected to public-order and security considerations.
The legal challenge involving Uzma and Noreen is now before the Lahore High Court, which has sought the government’s response before considering their plea further.
Why Adiala Jail has become a sensitive point
Adiala Jail has assumed particular importance for PTI because it is where Imran Khan is incarcerated. Any attempt by large numbers of protesters to converge on the facility could therefore carry implications beyond an ordinary political demonstration.
Kasim’s appeal appears designed to separate the demand for Khan’s release from any attempt to physically approach the prison. His message asks supporters to continue their political mobilisation without turning the jail into the centre of the confrontation.
For the authorities, the September 27 protest presents a public-order challenge amid restrictions already covering much of Punjab. For PTI, it is an opportunity to demonstrate support for Khan and press for his release.
The coming days will determine whether the competing demands for political mobilisation and security restrictions can coexist without producing another confrontation between PTI supporters and the Pakistani state.
Political protest under a security cloud
The September 27 mobilisation is therefore unfolding in an environment shaped by preventive detention, restrictions on assembly and additional security deployments.
Kasim Khan’s latest message has also introduced an unusual element into the protest preparations: a direct request from Imran Khan’s son that supporters not approach the place where the former prime minister is imprisoned.
With Section 144 due to remain in force until October 5, the authorities have several legal restrictions available during the period surrounding the protest. PTI, meanwhile, continues to demand Khan’s release.
The immediate focus is now on how the party organises the September 27 mobilisation—and whether supporters heed the appeal to keep Adiala Jail outside the protest route.

जेल में बंद पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री इमरान खान के बेटे कासिम खान ने पार्टी समर्थकों से अडियाला जेल की ओर मार्च नहीं करने और उसके आसपास भीड़ नहीं जुटाने को कहा है।
कासिम ने आशंका जताई है कि जेल के बाहर बड़ी संख्या में लोगों के जमा होने से ऐसी स्थिति पैदा हो सकती है, जिसका इस्तेमाल अधिकारी जेल के भीतर या उसके आसपास किसी कार्रवाई के लिए कर सकते हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि इससे उनके पिता की सुरक्षा पर गंभीर असर पड़ सकता है।

प्रांत में 23 सितंबर से 5 अक्टूबर तक धारा 144 लागू की गई है। इसके तहत सार्वजनिक स्थानों और सड़कों पर पांच या उससे अधिक लोगों के एकत्र होने पर प्रतिबंध लगाया गया है।
रावलपिंडी, अटक, झेलम और मियांवाली में सुरक्षा व्यवस्था मजबूत करने के लिए पाकिस्तान रेंजर्स की अतिरिक्त तैनाती भी मांगी गई है।
सरकारी आदेश में इन कदमों के पीछे आतंकवादी और उग्रवादी संगठनों तथा कथित शत्रुतापूर्ण खुफिया एजेंसियों से पैदा होने वाले खतरे का हवाला दिया गया है। सरकार ने इसे सार्वजनिक शांति और सुरक्षा के लिए गंभीर खतरा बताया है।
हालांकि आदेश का आधार व्यापक सुरक्षा चिंताओं को बताया गया है, लेकिन इन प्रतिबंधों की अवधि PTI के प्रस्तावित प्रदर्शन को भी सीधे प्रभावित करती है।
इमरान की बहनों की हिरासत ने बढ़ाया विवाद
सुरक्षा तैयारियों के साथ-साथ इमरान खान के परिवार के खिलाफ हुई कार्रवाई ने भी राजनीतिक विवाद को और गहरा कर दिया है।
इमरान की बहन अलीमा खान को हिरासत में लिए जाने के बाद उनकी दो अन्य बहनों उजमा खान और नोरीन नियाजी को भी 30 दिनों के लिए निवारक हिरासत में रखा गया।
उजमा और नोरीन ने अपनी हिरासत के खिलाफ लाहौर हाई कोर्ट का दरवाजा खटखटाया है। उनके वकीलों ने अदालत में दलील दी कि दोनों महिलाएं राजनीतिक गतिविधियों में सक्रिय नहीं हैं और उन्हें हिरासत में रखने का पर्याप्त कानूनी आधार मौजूद नहीं है।
अदालत ने फिलहाल हिरासत के आदेशों पर तत्काल रोक लगाने से इनकार किया है। उसने संबंधित अधिकारियों को नोटिस जारी कर जवाब मांगा है। इसके बाद याचिकाओं पर आगे सुनवाई होगी।
परिवार के सदस्यों की हिरासत ने PTI और सरकार के बीच पहले से मौजूद राजनीतिक तनाव को और बढ़ा दिया है।
कासिम ने परिवार को हिरासत में लिए जाने पर जताया था विरोध
