India-Japan Summit 2026: PM Modi, Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi Unveil New Strategic Partnerships in AI, Defence, Healthcare and Economic Security

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held wide-ranging bilateral talks with his Japanese counterpart Sanae Takaichi during the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit, with both leaders agreeing to deepen cooperation across economic security, emerging technologies, defence, healthcare and resilient supply chains.

The summit marked Takaichi’s first official visit to India as Japan’s Prime Minister and resulted in the signing of several landmark agreements aimed at elevating the two countries’ Special Strategic and Global Partnership.

Welcoming Prime Minister Takaichi to India, Modi described her as a “visionary and widely respected leader” and expressed confidence that her visit would open a new chapter in bilateral ties.

Referring to her affectionately as his “younger sister,” he also highlighted her association with Japan’s Nara Prefecture, noting that the region shares centuries-old Buddhist links with India, making the relationship between the two nations even more special.

The discussions focused extensively on expanding trade and investment, strengthening resilient semiconductor supply chains, enhancing cooperation in critical and emerging technologies, and building a comprehensive framework for economic security.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to working together in an increasingly uncertain global environment and announced that India and Japan had jointly prepared a roadmap to advance cooperation in economic security.

Speaking after the summit, Prime Minister Modi said the changing global geopolitical landscape has reinforced the importance of trusted partnerships.

Recalling his remarks at the recent G7 Summit, he said mutual trust has become the world’s most valuable strategic asset amid growing international uncertainty.

“Only a few days ago at the G7 Summit, I said that in today’s world, where global instability is increasing, mutual trust is our greatest strategic strength.

I am proud that the India-Japan partnership has consistently stood the test of time and continues to be built on this foundation,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged Japan’s longstanding contribution to India’s economic transformation, infrastructure development and industrial modernisation.

He noted that Japanese investments and technology have played a significant role in India’s development journey over the decades.

Modi said both India and Japan now rank among the world’s five largest economies and, as two major democratic powers in the Indo-Pacific region, share a common responsibility to promote peace, stability and sustainable development.

“Japan has made an extraordinary contribution to India’s growth story. Through Prime Minister Takaichi’s visit, we are beginning a new phase in our Special Strategic and Global Partnership.

Today, both our countries are among the five largest economies in the world. Together, as leading democracies, we are committed to advancing peace, prosperity and regional stability,” he said.

Artificial Intelligence and Technology Cooperation

Technology emerged as one of the central themes of the summit. Prime Minister Modi announced that India and Japan had signed a joint statement on cooperation in Artificial Intelligence (AI), describing technological collaboration as the strongest pillar of the bilateral relationship.

He said several leading institutions from India’s AI ecosystem signed agreements with their Japanese counterparts to promote research, innovation, talent development and industrial applications of artificial intelligence.

According to Modi, Japan’s expertise in precision engineering combined with India’s globally recognised software capabilities will create new opportunities for AI innovation and strengthen the development of trustworthy and responsible artificial intelligence worldwide.

“The combination of Japan’s precision technology and India’s software excellence will provide fresh momentum to global AI development and innovation,” the Prime Minister said.

Defence Partnership to Enter a New Phase

The summit also witnessed a breakthrough in defence cooperation with the signing of the first-ever India-Japan co-development agreement in the defence sector.

Prime Minister Modi announced that the two countries would jointly develop the ‘Unicorn’ Naval Radio Antenna System, describing it as a significant milestone in defence technology cooperation.

He said the project would not only enhance indigenous defence capabilities but also contribute to maritime security and peace across the Indo-Pacific region.

“This first co-development initiative involving the Naval Radio Antenna ‘Unicorn’ will open an entirely new chapter in our defence technology partnership while strengthening maritime security and regional peace,” Modi stated.

Healthcare Collaboration to Boost Global Health Security

Healthcare also featured prominently during the summit. India and Japan signed multiple agreements covering pharmaceuticals, medical devices and biotechnology.

Modi said the two nations would combine India’s manufacturing scale with Japan’s globally respected quality standards to develop affordable, reliable and advanced healthcare solutions for the world.

He added that closer cooperation in these sectors would strengthen global health security and improve access to quality medical technologies across developing countries.

India-Japan Bio-Gas Initiative

Among the other major announcements, Prime Minister Modi unveiled the India-Japan Bio-Gas Initiative, under which 1,000 bio-gas and organic fertiliser plants will be established across India.

The initiative aims to promote clean energy, sustainable agriculture and environmentally friendly waste management while creating new livelihood opportunities in rural areas.

According to the Prime Minister, the project reflects both countries’ shared commitment to green growth and climate-friendly development.

The summit concluded with both leaders reaffirming their resolve to further strengthen the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership through closer collaboration in trade, technology, innovation, defence, healthcare, clean energy and regional security.

भारत-जापान शिखर सम्मेलन 2026: पीएम मोदी और जापानी प्रधानमंत्री सानाए ताकाइची ने AI, रक्षा, स्वास्थ्य और आर्थिक सुरक्षा में साझेदारी को दी नई दिशा

प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने गुरुवार को जापान की प्रधानमंत्री सानाए ताकाइची के साथ 16वें भारत-जापान वार्षिक शिखर सम्मेलन के दौरान व्यापक द्विपक्षीय वार्ता की। दोनों नेताओं ने आर्थिक सुरक्षा, उभरती प्रौद्योगिकियों, रक्षा, स्वास्थ्य, सेमीकंडक्टर आपूर्ति श्रृंखला तथा निवेश जैसे अनेक महत्वपूर्ण क्षेत्रों में सहयोग को नई ऊंचाइयों तक ले जाने पर सहमति जताई।

जापान की प्रधानमंत्री बनने के बाद ताकाइची की यह पहली भारत यात्रा है, जिसके दौरान दोनों देशों ने कई महत्वपूर्ण समझौतों पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने सानाए ताकाइची का गर्मजोशी से स्वागत करते हुए उन्हें दूरदर्शी और लोकप्रिय नेता बताया। उन्होंने स्नेहपूर्वक उन्हें अपनी “छोटी बहन” कहकर संबोधित किया और कहा कि उनका संबंध जापान के नारा प्रीफेक्चर से है, जिसका भारत के साथ सदियों पुराना बौद्ध सांस्कृतिक संबंध रहा है। उन्होंने कहा कि यह साझा विरासत दोनों देशों के रिश्तों को और अधिक मजबूत बनाती है।

बैठक में दोनों नेताओं ने व्यापार एवं निवेश बढ़ाने, सेमीकंडक्टर की सुरक्षित और मजबूत आपूर्ति श्रृंखला विकसित करने, महत्वपूर्ण एवं उभरती प्रौद्योगिकियों में सहयोग बढ़ाने तथा आर्थिक सुरक्षा के लिए साझा रूपरेखा तैयार करने पर विस्तार से चर्चा की। दोनों देशों ने बदलते वैश्विक परिदृश्य में विश्वसनीय साझेदारी को और मजबूत बनाने का संकल्प भी दोहराया।

शिखर वार्ता के बाद मीडिया को संबोधित करते हुए प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने कहा कि वर्तमान वैश्विक परिस्थितियों में भरोसेमंद साझेदारियों का महत्व पहले से कहीं अधिक बढ़ गया है। उन्होंने हाल ही में आयोजित जी-7 शिखर सम्मेलन का उल्लेख करते हुए कहा कि आज के दौर में परस्पर विश्वास ही सबसे बड़ी रणनीतिक शक्ति बन चुका है।

उन्होंने कहा, “कुछ ही दिन पहले जी-7 शिखर सम्मेलन में मैंने कहा था कि वैश्विक अस्थिरता के इस दौर में आपसी विश्वास हमारी सबसे बड़ी रणनीतिक पूंजी है। मुझे गर्व है कि भारत-जापान की साझेदारी समय की हर कसौटी पर खरी उतरी है और आज भी उसी मजबूत विश्वास पर आधारित है।”

प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने भारत के विकास, औद्योगिक आधुनिकीकरण और आधारभूत ढांचे के निर्माण में जापान के दशकों पुराने योगदान की भी सराहना की। उन्होंने कहा कि जापानी निवेश, तकनीक और सहयोग ने भारत की विकास यात्रा को नई गति देने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई है।

उन्होंने कहा कि आज भारत और जापान दोनों दुनिया की शीर्ष पांच सबसे बड़ी अर्थव्यवस्थाओं में शामिल हैं। ऐसे में दोनों लोकतांत्रिक देशों की जिम्मेदारी है कि वे हिंद-प्रशांत क्षेत्र समेत पूरी दुनिया में शांति, स्थिरता और समृद्धि को बढ़ावा दें।

आर्टिफिशियल इंटेलिजेंस में नई साझेदारी

शिखर सम्मेलन का सबसे महत्वपूर्ण पहलू कृत्रिम बुद्धिमत्ता (आर्टिफिशियल इंटेलिजेंस – AI) के क्षेत्र में सहयोग रहा। प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने बताया कि दोनों देशों ने AI सहयोग पर एक संयुक्त वक्तव्य जारी किया है और भारत के AI इकोसिस्टम से जुड़े कई प्रमुख संस्थानों ने जापानी संस्थानों के साथ समझौतों पर हस्ताक्षर किए हैं।

उन्होंने कहा कि जापान की उच्च गुणवत्ता वाली प्रिसीजन टेक्नोलॉजी और भारत की विश्वस्तरीय सॉफ्टवेयर क्षमता का संगम वैश्विक AI विकास को नई गति देगा और इस क्षेत्र में नवाचार के नए अवसर पैदा करेगा।

प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा, “जापान की सटीक तकनीक और भारत की सॉफ्टवेयर विशेषज्ञता का मेल कृत्रिम बुद्धिमत्ता के वैश्विक विकास को नई ऊर्जा और नई दिशा प्रदान करेगा।”

रक्षा सहयोग में नया अध्याय

भारत और जापान ने रक्षा क्षेत्र में अपने पहले संयुक्त सह-विकास (Co-development) समझौते पर भी हस्ताक्षर किए।

प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने घोषणा की कि दोनों देश संयुक्त रूप से ‘यूनिकॉर्न’ नौसैनिक रेडियो एंटीना प्रणाली विकसित करेंगे। उन्होंने कहा कि यह परियोजना रक्षा प्रौद्योगिकी सहयोग में एक नया अध्याय खोलेगी और हिंद-प्रशांत क्षेत्र में समुद्री सुरक्षा तथा क्षेत्रीय शांति को और मजबूत करेगी।

उन्होंने कहा, “नेवल रेडियो एंटीना ‘यूनिकॉर्न’ परियोजना भारत-जापान रक्षा साझेदारी को नई ऊंचाइयों तक ले जाएगी और समुद्री सुरक्षा को भी मजबूत करेगी।”

स्वास्थ्य क्षेत्र में वैश्विक सहयोग

दोनों देशों ने फार्मास्यूटिकल्स, चिकित्सा उपकरणों और जैव प्रौद्योगिकी के क्षेत्र में भी कई महत्वपूर्ण समझौतों पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने कहा कि भारत की विशाल उत्पादन क्षमता और जापान की उत्कृष्ट गुणवत्ता का समन्वय दुनिया को सस्ती, भरोसेमंद और अत्याधुनिक स्वास्थ्य सेवाएं उपलब्ध कराने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाएगा। उन्होंने कहा कि यह सहयोग वैश्विक स्वास्थ्य सुरक्षा को भी मजबूत करेगा।

भारत-जापान बायोगैस पहल

प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने भारत-जापान बायोगैस पहल की भी घोषणा की। इस पहल के तहत भारत में 1,000 बायोगैस और जैविक उर्वरक संयंत्र स्थापित किए जाएंगे।

उन्होंने कहा कि यह परियोजना स्वच्छ ऊर्जा, टिकाऊ कृषि, पर्यावरण संरक्षण और ग्रामीण रोजगार को बढ़ावा देने की दिशा में एक महत्वपूर्ण कदम होगी। यह पहल हरित विकास और जलवायु-अनुकूल अर्थव्यवस्था के प्रति दोनों देशों की साझा प्रतिबद्धता को भी दर्शाती है।

शिखर सम्मेलन के अंत में दोनों नेताओं ने व्यापार, प्रौद्योगिकी, नवाचार, रक्षा, स्वास्थ्य, स्वच्छ ऊर्जा और क्षेत्रीय सुरक्षा जैसे क्षेत्रों में सहयोग को और मजबूत बनाने तथा भारत-जापान विशेष रणनीतिक एवं वैश्विक साझेदारी को नई ऊंचाइयों तक पहुंचाने का संकल्प दोहराया।
