Indian Community in China Flags Visa Curbs, Online Hate and Employment Issues at Embassy’s Open House
Beijing: Members of the Indian community in China voiced a range of concerns, including the spread of anti-India content on Chinese social media, shrinking employment opportunities for Indian professionals and restrictions affecting spouses seeking jobs, during the Indian Embassy’s first Open House interaction held in recent years.
The outreach initiative provided a platform for the diaspora to directly raise issues affecting their daily lives and professional interests.
The interactive session, organised on Friday, was led by India’s Ambassador to China, Vikram Doraiswami, along with senior embassy officials handling consular, education, community affairs and visa-related matters.
Professionals, entrepreneurs, researchers and members of the Indian community living in Beijing participated in the meeting, where they discussed a wide range of administrative, professional and community-related challenges.
Participants highlighted the growing circulation of derogatory posts targeting Indians, their traditions, food preferences and cultural identity across several Chinese social media platforms.
Concerns were also raised over the declining number of work visas being issued to Indian professionals, restrictions that prevent spouses from taking up employment and difficulties encountered while accessing certain consular services.
Responding to the concerns, Ambassador Doraiswami said Chinese authorities were aware of the increase in anti-India narratives appearing on social media platforms and had acknowledged the need to address the issue.
He said the Indian Embassy was actively countering misleading narratives by sharing verified and factual information through its official communication channels.
The envoy further said the mission intends to expand its cultural outreach programmes to strengthen people-to-people ties and promote a broader understanding of India’s rich heritage.
Building on the overwhelming public response to events such as the annual Vasant Mela, the embassy plans to organise more cultural festivals and exhibitions showcasing India’s traditions, art, cuisine and diversity.
To assist Indians facing workplace disputes or employment-related legal complications, the embassy is also developing a network of legal experts who can provide timely professional guidance and support whenever required.
Since assuming office in May, Ambassador Doraiswami has intensified diplomatic engagement with Chinese authorities as part of broader efforts to improve bilateral relations between the two countries.
He announced that beginning next week, the embassy would simplify documentation requirements for Chinese nationals applying for Indian visas, a move aimed at encouraging greater travel and exchanges between the two nations.
Emphasising the importance of continuous interaction with the Indian diaspora, the ambassador said the embassy would organise Open House meetings at regular intervals to ensure that community grievances are heard promptly and addressed through a more responsive and accessible consular mechanism.

बीजिंग: चीन में रह रहे भारतीय समुदाय के सदस्यों ने हाल के वर्षों में आयोजित भारतीय दूतावास के पहले ओपन हाउस कार्यक्रम में सोशल मीडिया पर बढ़ते भारत विरोधी प्रचार, भारतीय पेशेवरों के लिए घटते रोजगार अवसर, वर्क वीजा संबंधी कठिनाइयों तथा जीवनसाथियों के रोजगार पर लगी पाबंदियों सहित अनेक महत्वपूर्ण मुद्दे उठाए।
इस संवाद कार्यक्रम का उद्देश्य भारतीय समुदाय को अपनी समस्याएं सीधे दूतावास के समक्ष रखने का अवसर उपलब्ध कराना था।
शुक्रवार को आयोजित इस संवाद सत्र की अध्यक्षता चीन में भारत के राजदूत विक्रम दोराईस्वामी ने की। उनके साथ वाणिज्य दूतावास, शिक्षा, सामुदायिक मामलों और वीजा प्रकोष्ठ के वरिष्ठ अधिकारी भी मौजूद रहे।
बीजिंग में कार्यरत विभिन्न क्षेत्रों के भारतीय पेशेवरों, उद्यमियों, शोधकर्ताओं और अन्य प्रवासी नागरिकों ने इसमें भाग लेकर अपने अनुभव और चुनौतियां साझा कीं।
बैठक के दौरान प्रतिभागियों ने चीनी सोशल मीडिया मंचों पर भारतीयों, उनकी संस्कृति, खान-पान और परंपराओं के विरुद्ध बढ़ती आपत्तिजनक सामग्री पर गंभीर चिंता व्यक्त की।
इसके अलावा भारतीय पेशेवरों को मिलने वाले रोजगार वीजा में कमी, पति-पत्नी में से एक के रोजगार संबंधी प्रतिबंध तथा कुछ वाणिज्य दूतावास सेवाओं से जुड़ी व्यावहारिक कठिनाइयों का मुद्दा भी प्रमुखता से उठाया गया।
इन चिंताओं पर प्रतिक्रिया देते हुए राजदूत विक्रम दोराईस्वामी ने कहा कि चीन सरकार भी सोशल मीडिया पर बढ़ती भारत विरोधी सामग्री को लेकर गंभीर है और इस दिशा में आवश्यक कदम उठा रही है।
उन्होंने कहा कि भारतीय दूतावास भी अपने आधिकारिक सोशल मीडिया मंचों के माध्यम से तथ्यपरक और प्रमाणित जानकारी साझा कर भ्रामक प्रचार का प्रभावी ढंग से मुकाबला कर रहा है।
उन्होंने बताया कि भारत की सांस्कृतिक विविधता और समृद्ध विरासत को व्यापक स्तर पर प्रस्तुत करने के लिए दूतावास सांस्कृतिक गतिविधियों का दायरा और बढ़ाएगा।
वार्षिक वसंत मेला जैसे आयोजनों को मिली उत्साहजनक प्रतिक्रिया को देखते हुए भविष्य में भारतीय कला, संस्कृति, भोजन और परंपराओं पर आधारित अधिक कार्यक्रम आयोजित किए जाएंगे, ताकि दोनों देशों के लोगों के बीच आपसी समझ और संपर्क मजबूत हो सके।
रोजगार से जुड़े विवादों या कानूनी समस्याओं का सामना कर रहे भारतीय नागरिकों की सहायता के लिए दूतावास कानूनी विशेषज्ञों का एक सहयोगी नेटवर्क भी विकसित कर रहा है। इसका उद्देश्य जरूरत पड़ने पर भारतीयों को त्वरित कानूनी परामर्श और आवश्यक सहायता उपलब्ध कराना है।
मई में पदभार संभालने के बाद से राजदूत दोराईस्वामी ने भारत-चीन संबंधों को नई गति देने के उद्देश्य से चीनी अधिकारियों के साथ संवाद बढ़ाया है।
उन्होंने बताया कि अगले सप्ताह से भारतीय वीजा के लिए आवेदन करने वाले चीनी नागरिकों के लिए दस्तावेजी प्रक्रिया को और सरल बनाया जाएगा, जिससे दोनों देशों के बीच यात्रा और लोगों के पारस्परिक संपर्क को बढ़ावा मिलेगा।
भारतीय समुदाय के साथ नियमित संवाद की आवश्यकता पर जोर देते हुए राजदूत ने कहा कि भविष्य में इस प्रकार के ओपन हाउस कार्यक्रम नियमित अंतराल पर आयोजित किए जाएंगे।
उनका उद्देश्य भारतीय नागरिकों की समस्याओं का समयबद्ध समाधान सुनिश्चित करना तथा दूतावास की वाणिज्य दूतावास सेवाओं को अधिक प्रभावी, संवेदनशील और नागरिक-केंद्रित बनाना है।
