Iran Vows to Protect Nuclear Capabilities as National Asset Amid Rising Tensions with US and Israel

Tehran: Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has firmly stated that the country will safeguard its nuclear and missile capabilities, describing them as vital national assets that cannot be compromised—even in the face of international pressure, including potential negotiations initiated by Donald Trump.

In a written statement broadcast on Iranian state television, Khamenei emphasized that Iran’s scientific, technological, and defense advancements are deeply tied to its national identity and sovereignty. He stressed that these capabilities are viewed by the Iranian people—both within the country and abroad—as assets worthy of the same level of protection as the nation’s land, airspace, and territorial waters.

This statement comes in the aftermath of a significant turning point. Since the airstrike on February 28, which resulted in the death of his 86-year-old father, Ali Khamenei, Mojtaba Khamenei has largely communicated through written messages rather than public appearances.

Addressing regional tensions, he also issued a strong warning regarding foreign presence in the Persian Gulf.

He remarked that the only place for American forces in the region is “at the bottom of its waters,” asserting that Iran maintains full control over the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz.

The statement reflects the increasingly volatile geopolitical climate following the escalation of conflict between Iran, the United States, and Israel.

Khamenei projected a future vision of the Persian Gulf region that excludes foreign military influence, particularly that of the United States.

He expressed confidence that, with what he described as divine support, the region would move toward greater prosperity, stability, and self-reliance for its people.

He also highlighted the shared destiny of nations surrounding the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, calling for regional unity and development.

At the same time, he warned that external powers—whom he accused of entering the region with motives of greed and hostility—would find no place there.

The remarks underline Iran’s continued defiance and its commitment to maintaining strategic autonomy in an increasingly tense global landscape.
