The actor, who made his debut as a child artist in Shekhar Kapur’s 1983 classic, reunites with the filmmaker and original co-stars Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi for the spiritual sequel

More than four decades after he first won hearts as the innocent Rahul in Shekhar Kapur’s iconic film ‘Masoom’, actor Jugal Hansraj is set to return to the beloved franchise.
He has officially joined the cast of ‘Masoom: The Next Generation’, marking an emotional reunion with director Shekhar Kapur and original stars Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi.
Hansraj, who was just nine years old when he made his acting debut in the 1983 classic, reflected on the significance of his return.
“When Shekhar called to tell me he wanted me to be a part of the new ‘Masoom’, it made me so happy.
‘Masoom’ has been a part of my life, my identity, for as long as I can remember. Even after all these years, I’m still ‘that Masoom boy’,” he said.
The actor, who now lives in New York, shared that people continue to approach him with affection for the film.
“I constantly get stopped by people even here in New York, and they tell me with a warm smile that their kids or grandkids still listen to ‘Lakdi Ki Kathi’.
They meet me like I’m a member of their own family,” he added.
Describing the reunion, Shekhar Kapur said, “There is something profoundly beautiful about coming home, not to a place, but to a story that has stayed alive in people’s hearts for decades.
Jugal was just a young boy when we made ‘Masoom’, and today, welcoming him back as an accomplished actor is both emotional and deeply fulfilling.”
‘Masoom: The Next Generation’ is being described as a spiritual sequel to the original, exploring contemporary themes of family relationships, identity, and changing dynamics across generations.
Besides the returning cast, the film features an impressive ensemble including Manoj Bajpayee, Nithya Menen, Vivaan Shah, and Kaveri Kapur, Shekhar Kapur’s daughter.
Adding to the anticipation, Academy Award-winning composer A.R. Rahman has joined the project as music composer and co-producer.
The film marks Kapur’s return to intimate family drama after acclaimed works including ‘Mr India’, ‘Bandit Queen’, and ‘Elizabeth’.
For Hansraj, the project represents far more than another acting assignment—it is a homecoming to the story that shaped his identity as a performer. “It’s like life coming full circle,” he said.

चार दशकों से अधिक समय बाद जब उन्होंने शेखर कपूर की प्रतिष्ठित फिल्म ‘मासूम’ में मासूम राहुल के रूप में दिल जीते, अभिनेता जुगल हंसराज इस प्रिय फ्रैंचाइज़ में वापसी करने वाले हैं।
उन्होंने आधिकारिक तौर पर ‘मासूम: द नेक्स्ट जनरेशन’ की कास्ट में शामिल हो गए हैं, जो निर्देशक शेखर कपूर और मूल सितारों नसीरुद्दीन शाह व शबाना आज़मी के साथ एक भावनात्मक पुनर्मिलन है।

अभिनेता, जो अब न्यूयॉर्क में रहते हैं, ने साझा किया कि लोग आज भी उनसे ‘मासूम’ के लिए स्नेह के साथ मिलते हैं।
“मुझे न्यूयॉर्क में भी लोग रोकते हैं, और वे गर्मजोशी से बताते हैं कि उनके बच्चे या पोते-पोतियाँ अब भी ‘लकड़ी की काठी’ सुनते हैं।
वे मुझसे ऐसे मिलते हैं जैसे मैं उनके परिवार का सदस्य हूँ,” उन्होंने कहा।
इस पुनर्मिलन का वर्णन करते हुए, शेखर कपूर ने कहा, “घर वापस आने में कुछ गहन सुंदरता है, किसी जगह पर नहीं, बल्कि एक ऐसी कहानी पर जो दशकों से लोगों के दिलों में जीवित है।

‘मासूम: द नेक्स्ट जनरेशन’ को मूल फिल्म के आध्यात्मिक सीक्वल के रूप में वर्णित किया जा रहा है, जो पारिवारिक रिश्तों, पहचान और पीढ़ियों के बीच बदलती गतिशीलता के समकालीन विषयों की खोज करता है।
