Mumbai: As the much-anticipated apocalyptic survival thriller ‘Pralay’ officially began filming in Mumbai, a new voice of excitement has joined the chorus.
Actor Kalyani Priyadarshan, known for her work in Malayalam cinema and the series ‘Lokah’, responded to the production announcement with a heartfelt message that captures the spirit of the ambitious project.
“Time to go make a film that we’re all going to be so proud of,” she wrote in the comments of producer Ananya Birla’s post, marking the start of her journey on the film alongside Ranveer Singh.
The project, which commenced principal photography on August 16, 2026, represents a significant step for Priyadarshan as she makes her Bollywood debut in a leading role.
Directed by Jai Mehta, known for his work on ‘Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story’ and the series ‘Lootere’, ‘Pralay’ is a large-scale theatrical actioner set in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by a zombie outbreak.
The film is set in a near-future Mumbai, devastated by a deadly pandemic and a subsequent zombie outbreak.
It is described as a journey of survival, courage, and the instinct to fight for what matters most when the world as you know it begins to collapse.
The choice to shoot across live locations in Mumbai and its outskirts is intended to bring a heightened sense of realism to this end-of-the-world scenario.
Produced by Ananya Birla’s Birla Studios in association with True Story Films and Maa Kasam Films, ‘Pralay’ marks a major new project for Singh following the success of the ‘Dhurandhar’ duology.
Singh is also co-producing the film under his own banner, Maa Kasam Films. With principal photography now underway, the film is currently targeting a theatrical release in 2027.
Priyadarshan’s comment serves as a powerful testament to the film’s potential and the collective belief the cast and crew have in its vision.
As the shoot progresses, her excitement will likely be shared by the industry and audiences, who are keenly awaiting this ambitious new spectacle.
