Kanpur Murder Case: Woman Among Three Held for Alleged Killing of Father-in-Law Over Family Dispute
Police say 35-year-old Shalu Minocha allegedly hired two men to kill her father-in-law, pharmaceutical businessman Vineet Minocha, after tensions over finances and privacy escalated.
KANPUR: A domestic dispute allegedly rooted in control over household money and privacy concerns has taken a deadly turn in Kanpur, where police have arrested a 35-year-old woman and two men in connection with the murder of her father-in-law.
The victim, 63-year-old pharmaceutical businessman Vineet Minocha, was found stabbed to death inside his bedroom in Kalyanpur.
Police said their investigation eventually pointed to his daughter-in-law, Shalu Minocha, as the alleged mastermind behind the killing.
The case came to light at around 4 am after Shalu, her husband Subrat and their child returned home on Sunday and noticed that the main entrance was open.
Inside the house, Vineet was found lying on the bedroom floor in a pool of blood. He had sustained multiple stab wounds.
Subrat alerted the police, following which a team reached the residence and began examining the circumstances surrounding the killing.
Investigators did not find evidence suggesting that the assailants had broken into the house, prompting them to closely scrutinise CCTV recordings from the apartment and nearby areas.
The surveillance footage became a key part of the investigation and led police to Vishal Gautam, 30, and Raj Kishore, 25.
The two were subsequently arrested on Monday following what police described as an encounter.
According to police, questioning the suspects produced a breakthrough. Investigators claimed Vishal and Raj disclosed that they had been engaged to murder Vineet and named Shalu as the person who allegedly arranged the killing. Shalu was arrested the same day.
Deputy Commissioner of Police SM Qasim Abidi said all three accused were presented before a court and sent to judicial custody.
Police allege that Shalu had contacted Vishal, who had previously worked at Vineet’s shop. Investigators said she promised him Rs 6 lakh for carrying out the murder.
Vishal, who was allegedly facing a debt of Rs 2 lakh, is said to have agreed and subsequently brought his unemployed friend Raj into the plan, offering him Rs 30,000 upfront.
Investigators said the original plan was to make Vineet’s death appear natural.
The two men were allegedly instructed to suffocate him with a pillow while he was asleep, creating the impression that he had died from a heart attack.
Police further alleged that Shalu helped arrange access to the residence well before the crime.
About 20 days before the murder, she allegedly gave Vishal the house’s original key, enabling him to have a duplicate prepared.
The alleged preparations also included ensuring that the two men could enter the housing society without attracting attention.
Police said Shalu informed the pair that she would be out at a party with her husband and son on the night of September 5.
She allegedly contacted the society’s security gate and identified Vishal as “Shivam”, allowing him to avoid having his actual name recorded in the visitor register.
Using the duplicate key, Vishal and Raj allegedly entered the home and concealed themselves in the bedroom.
Police said the situation changed when Vineet entered the room at around 11 pm and noticed movement as he prepared to sleep.
Investigators said the two suspects then panicked and abandoned the original plan. Instead of suffocating Vineet, they allegedly attacked him with knives, stabbing him several times in the abdomen and elsewhere on his body.
The pair then escaped from the premises by scaling the rear boundary wall, according to police.
The investigation also brought police to Ratanpur on Monday after they received information that the two suspects were hiding there.
Officers reportedly surrounded the area and moved to apprehend them.
Police alleged that the suspects opened fire after seeing the officers, prompting retaliatory firing.
Both men suffered bullet injuries to their legs and were taken to a hospital, where they received initial medical treatment.
The police said the alleged family tensions had developed over time. According to investigators, Shalu had been unhappy with her father-in-law, particularly over his handling of household finances.
Vineet allegedly exercised control over the family’s money, and Shalu reportedly told police that she had to seek his approval even for minor personal expenses.
Her concerns were allegedly compounded by the installation of four CCTV cameras in the drawing room around two weeks before the murder. Vineet reportedly told family members that the surveillance equipment was intended for their safety.
Police said Shalu, however, objected to the cameras, alleging that they interfered with her privacy.
The competing accounts over money, surveillance and household control are now part of the police investigation into what allegedly culminated in Vineet’s murder.
Police have so far presented the alleged hiring, preparations and subsequent attack as the sequence leading to the killing, while the three accused remain in judicial custody following their court appearance.

कानपुर: कानपुर के कल्याणपुर में 63 वर्षीय दवा कारोबारी विनीत मीनोचा की हत्या की जांच में पुलिस ने उनकी 35 वर्षीय बहू शालू मीनोचा समेत तीन लोगों को गिरफ्तार किया है।
पुलिस का दावा है कि घरेलू विवाद के बीच शालू ने कथित तौर पर अपने ससुर की हत्या की साजिश रची और दो युवकों को इसके लिए तैयार किया।
मामला रविवार तड़के करीब 4 बजे सामने आया, जब शालू, उसके पति सुब्रत और उनका बच्चा घर लौटे। घर का मुख्य दरवाजा खुला मिला।
अंदर बेडरूम के फर्श पर विनीत खून से लथपथ मृत पड़ा था। पुलिस के अनुसार, उनके शरीर पर चाकू से कई वार किए गए थे।
सुब्रत ने तत्काल पुलिस को सूचना दी। मौके पर पहुंची टीम ने घटनास्थल की जांच शुरू की।
घर में जबरन घुसने के स्पष्ट निशान नहीं मिलने के बाद जांचकर्ताओं का ध्यान फ्लैट के भीतर लगे कैमरों और आसपास के इलाके की सीसीटीवी रिकॉर्डिंग पर गया।
पुलिस के मुताबिक, निगरानी कैमरों से मिले सुरागों के आधार पर 30 वर्षीय विशाल गौतम और 25 वर्षीय राज किशोर तक जांच पहुंची। दोनों को सोमवार को पुलिस ने एक कथित मुठभेड़ के बाद गिरफ्तार किया।
पूछताछ के दौरान मामले ने नया मोड़ लिया। पुलिस का कहना है कि दोनों आरोपियों ने कथित तौर पर बताया कि उन्हें विनीत की हत्या के लिए भेजा गया था और इसके पीछे शालू का हाथ था।
इसके बाद पुलिस ने उसी दिन शालू को भी गिरफ्तार कर लिया।
पुलिस के मुताबिक, तीनों आरोपियों को अदालत में पेश किया गया, जहां से उन्हें न्यायिक हिरासत में भेज दिया गया। यह जानकारी पुलिस उपायुक्त एसएम कासिम आबिदी ने दी।
जांच एजेंसी के अनुसार, शालू ने कथित तौर पर विशाल से संपर्क किया था, जो पहले उसके ससुर की दुकान पर काम कर चुका था।
पुलिस का दावा है कि हत्या के बदले उसे 6 लाख रुपये देने की बात कही गई थी।
विशाल पर कथित रूप से 2 लाख रुपये का कर्ज था, जिसके चलते वह इस योजना में शामिल हो गया। बाद में उसने अपने बेरोजगार दोस्त राज किशोर को साथ लिया और उसे 30 हजार रुपये अग्रिम देने की बात कही।
पुलिस के अनुसार, शुरुआत में हत्या को स्वाभाविक मौत जैसा दिखाने की योजना बनाई गई थी।
कथित तौर पर सोते समय तकिए से दम घोंटकर विनीत की जान लेने और घटना को दिल का दौरा बताने का इरादा था।
जांच में पुलिस ने यह भी आरोप लगाया कि हत्या की तैयारी काफी पहले शुरू हो गई थी।
घटना से करीब 20 दिन पहले शालू ने कथित तौर पर विशाल को घर की असली चाबी दी, जिससे उसकी दूसरी चाबी बनवाई जा सके।
पुलिस का कहना है कि वारदात वाली रात घर में प्रवेश को लेकर भी पहले से तैयारी की गई थी। शालू ने कथित तौर पर दोनों युवकों को बताया था कि 5 सितंबर की रात वह अपने पति और बच्चे के साथ एक पार्टी में जाएगी।
इसके बाद उसने सोसायटी के सुरक्षा गेट पर फोन कर विशाल का नाम “शिवम” बताया, ताकि आगंतुक रजिस्टर में उसकी वास्तविक पहचान दर्ज न हो।
पुलिस के मुताबिक, डुप्लीकेट चाबी की मदद से विशाल और राज घर में दाखिल हुए और बेडरूम में छिप गए। रात करीब 11 बजे विनीत कमरे में पहुंचे और सोने की तैयारी करने लगे।
इसी दौरान उन्हें कमरे में हलचल का अहसास हुआ।
जांचकर्ताओं का दावा है कि विनीत के सतर्क होने से दोनों आरोपी घबरा गए और उन्होंने कथित तौर पर पहले से बनाई गई योजना बदल दी।
दोनों ने चाकूओं से उन पर हमला कर दिया और पेट समेत शरीर के अन्य हिस्सों पर कई वार किए। इसके बाद वे घर की पिछली दीवार फांदकर फरार हो गए।
सोमवार को पुलिस को सूचना मिली कि दोनों आरोपी रतनपुर में छिपे हुए हैं। इसके बाद इलाके की घेराबंदी की गई। पुलिस के अनुसार, अधिकारियों को देखते ही दोनों ने अपने पास मौजूद हथियारों से गोलीबारी शुरू कर दी।
पुलिस ने जवाबी कार्रवाई में गोली चलाई, जिसमें दोनों आरोपियों के पैरों में गोली लगी। उन्हें अस्पताल ले जाया गया, जहां प्राथमिक उपचार किया गया।
पुलिस के अनुसार, इस हत्या के पीछे घरेलू तनाव की भी अहम भूमिका सामने आई है। जांच में दावा किया गया कि शालू लंबे समय से अपने ससुर से नाराज थी।
उसका आरोप था कि विनीत घर के आर्थिक मामलों पर नियंत्रण रखते थे और छोटे-छोटे खर्चों के लिए भी उसे उनसे पैसे मांगने पड़ते थे।
करीब दो सप्ताह पहले घर के ड्राइंग रूम में चार सीसीटीवी कैमरे लगाए जाने के बाद यह तनाव कथित तौर पर और बढ़ गया।
विनीत ने परिवार को बताया था कि कैमरे सुरक्षा के उद्देश्य से लगाए गए हैं। हालांकि, पुलिस के मुताबिक, शालू ने इन कैमरों को अपनी निजता में दखल माना और इससे परेशान थी।
फिलहाल पुलिस की जांच में आर्थिक नियंत्रण, घर में निगरानी और पारिवारिक तनाव से लेकर हत्या की कथित साजिश, आरोपियों की घर में घुसपैठ और वारदात के बाद उनके भागने तक की कड़ियों को जोड़ा जा रहा है।
तीनों आरोपी अदालत के आदेश के बाद न्यायिक हिरासत में हैं।
