Lucknow Doctor Arrested for Allegedly Sexually Assaulting a Woman Patient Inside Operation Theatre, Hospital Sealed

A shocking case from Lucknow has sparked outrage after a 37-year-old doctor was arrested for allegedly assaulting a young woman patient inside a hospital operation theatre after giving her a sedative.

The accused doctor was taken into custody after the 19-year-old woman approached the police with her complaint.

In the wake of the allegations, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Brijesh Pathak ordered immediate action against the hospital and the doctor.

According to police officials, the woman had been admitted to the private hospital earlier this week after she developed a high fever.

What began as a routine medical visit, however, allegedly turned into a traumatic experience for the patient.

Police said the woman alleged that the doctor later called her into the operating theatre and instructed female staff members to leave the room. In her complaint, she claimed that the doctor then administered a sedative before assaulting her.

Following her statement, the police registered a case against the accused on Thursday. Since the survivor belongs to the Scheduled Caste community, relevant sections of the SC/ST Act were also added to the FIR.

The accused, identified as Vijay Kumar Giri, was allegedly operating the hospital from a rented building in the area. During police interrogation, officials claimed that he admitted to the crime.

Twinkle Jain said the accused doctor has been produced before the court and confirmed that the hospital premises have been sealed as part of the investigation.

Police teams also seized the clothes allegedly worn by the accused at the time of the incident and took them into custody as evidence.

Reacting strongly to the case, Deputy CM Brijesh Pathak announced on social media that strict action had been ordered against both the hospital and the doctor. He said instructions were issued to seal Tejas Hospital and suspend the medical licence of Vijay Giri.

Pathak further stated that directions had also been given to the Ayurveda department to confiscate the doctor’s Ayurvedic medical degree permanently so that he would never be allowed to practise medicine again.

Expressing support for the survivor and her family, the Deputy Chief Minister said the state government stands firmly with the victim and assured that the accused would face the “strictest possible punishment” under the law.

The incident has once again raised serious concerns about patient safety, medical ethics, and accountability in private healthcare institutions.
