Mandakini Swells, 14,000 Hit as Floods Sweep 36 Villages in Chitrakoot

CHITRAKOOT: A sharp rise in the Mandakini river has thrown large parts of Chitrakoot into a flood emergency, affecting around 14,000 people across 36 villages and forcing authorities to move residents from inundated areas to safer ground.
The river stood at 129.2 metres on Wednesday, with water spilling into homes and commercial establishments in several pockets.
The flooding has also cut off road access at a number of locations, making boats the main means of reaching people stranded by the rising water.
The affected settlements are spread across three tehsils. Karwi has reported flooding in 19 villages, while 10 villages in Manikpur and seven in Rajapur have also been impacted.
Residents in several areas are struggling to travel between villages and obtain necessities as normal transport services have been disrupted.
Rescue personnel have been using motorboats to reach isolated households and shift people from submerged or vulnerable locations.
Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Provincial Armed Constabulary have joined the district administration and police in the operation.
Relief measures have been expanded alongside evacuation efforts. Officials are supplying cooked meals and ration kits to affected families, while medical teams are attending to people requiring treatment.
Authorities are continuing to assess areas where residents remain cut off because of inundated roads.
The flooding has also caused substantial damage to residential properties. Nearly 500 houses have suffered partial damage, according to officials, with compensation proceedings already initiated in 205 cases.
The administration said eligible beneficiaries are receiving financial assistance directly in their bank accounts and that the remaining claims will be processed without delay.
Families whose homes have been destroyed will be covered under the Chief Minister’s Housing Scheme, officials said, providing them with an alternative accommodation option as rehabilitation measures progress.
Chitrakoot District Magistrate Pulkit Garg has directed officials to maintain continuous surveillance of the Mandakini and ensure that relief supplies reach affected communities promptly.
Authorities have also been instructed to complete beneficiary verification and documentation so that compensation is not held up by administrative delays.
Chitrakoot is part of a wider flood response across Uttar Pradesh. Flood-like conditions have been reported in at least 31 districts, with inundation affecting 22 of them.
So far, 1,528 people have been moved to safer locations as state agencies continue rescue operations.
The wider response involves 742 flood-relief posts, supported by 452 boats and motorboats and 225 medical teams.
The scale of the deployment reflects the continuing pressure on districts dealing with waterlogged settlements, disrupted transport and displaced residents.
Shelter arrangements have also been strengthened.
As many as 105 relief centres are functioning across the affected areas, with facilities for about 2,460 people. Food, medicines and other essential supplies are being arranged at these centres.
Livestock protection has emerged as another priority in the flood-hit areas.
Authorities have distributed approximately 310 quintals of fodder to help families protect cattle and other animals during the disruption.
With the Mandakini continuing to be closely watched, officials remain focused on evacuation, relief distribution, and damage assessment.
For communities along the river, the immediate challenge remains reaching those cut off by floodwater while ensuring that essential supplies and assistance reach them in time.

चित्रकूट: मंडाकिनी नदी के जलस्तर में अचानक बढ़ोतरी के बाद उत्तर प्रदेश के चित्रकूट जिले में बाढ़ की स्थिति गंभीर हो गई है।
जिले के 36 गांवों में करीब 14 हजार लोग प्रभावित हुए हैं और जलभराव वाले इलाकों से लोगों को निकालकर सुरक्षित स्थानों पर पहुंचाने का अभियान जारी है।
बुधवार को मंडाकिनी का जलस्तर 129.2 मीटर दर्ज किया गया।
नदी का पानी कई बस्तियों में घरों और दुकानों तक पहुंच गया, जिससे स्थानीय लोगों की रोजमर्रा की गतिविधियां बुरी तरह प्रभावित हुई हैं। कई जगह सड़कें पानी में डूब जाने के कारण आवागमन ठप हो गया है।
बाढ़ का असर जिले की तीन तहसीलों में दर्ज किया गया है। करवी तहसील के 19 गांव प्रभावित बताए गए हैं, जबकि मानिकपुर में 10 और राजापुर में सात गांव बाढ़ की चपेट में हैं।
ग्रामीणों को एक स्थान से दूसरे स्थान तक पहुंचने के साथ-साथ भोजन और अन्य जरूरी सामान जुटाने में भी परेशानी का सामना करना पड़ रहा है।
जहां सड़क मार्ग से पहुंचना संभव नहीं है, वहां राहतकर्मी मोटरबोट की मदद ले रहे हैं। पानी से घिरे परिवारों तक पहुंचकर उन्हें सुरक्षित निकाला जा रहा है।
प्रशासन के साथ पुलिस, प्रांतीय सशस्त्र कांस्टेबुलरी (PAC), राष्ट्रीय आपदा मोचन बल (NDRF) और राज्य आपदा मोचन बल (SDRF) की टीमें अभियान में जुटी हैं।
बचाव के साथ राहत वितरण भी जारी है। प्रभावित परिवारों को पका हुआ भोजन और राशन किट उपलब्ध कराए जा रहे हैं।
स्वास्थ्य संबंधी जरूरतों को देखते हुए चिकित्सा दल भी सक्रिय हैं और जिन लोगों को उपचार की आवश्यकता है, उनकी जांच कर आवश्यक इलाज किया जा रहा है।
बाढ़ ने बड़ी संख्या में मकानों को नुकसान पहुंचाया है। अधिकारियों के मुताबिक करीब 500 घरों को आंशिक क्षति हुई है।
इनमें से 205 मामलों में मुआवजे की प्रक्रिया शुरू कर दी गई है। पात्र लोगों को आर्थिक सहायता सीधे उनके बैंक खातों में भेजी जा रही है और बाकी मामलों में भी भुगतान की प्रक्रिया तेज करने के निर्देश दिए गए हैं।
जिन परिवारों के मकान पूरी तरह नष्ट हो गए हैं, उनके लिए मुख्यमंत्री आवास योजना के तहत रहने की व्यवस्था किए जाने की बात प्रशासन ने कही है। इससे बाढ़ के बाद विस्थापित परिवारों के पुनर्वास में मदद मिलने की उम्मीद है।
जिलाधिकारी पुलकित गर्ग ने मंडाकिनी के जलस्तर पर लगातार नजर रखने के निर्देश दिए हैं।
अधिकारियों से कहा गया है कि प्रभावित लोगों तक राहत सामग्री पहुंचाने में किसी तरह की देरी न हो और मुआवजे के पात्र लाभार्थियों से संबंधित विवरण समय पर दर्ज किए जाएं।
चित्रकूट की स्थिति राज्य में बने व्यापक बाढ़ संकट का हिस्सा है। उत्तर प्रदेश के कम से कम 31 जिलों में बाढ़ जैसी स्थिति बताई गई है, जबकि 22 जिलों में जलभराव की स्थिति बनी हुई है। अब तक 1,528 लोगों को सुरक्षित स्थानों पर पहुंचाया जा चुका है।
राज्यभर में राहत कार्यों के लिए 742 बाढ़ राहत चौकियां सक्रिय की गई हैं।
बचाव और सहायता अभियान में 452 नावें एवं मोटरबोट और 225 चिकित्सा दल लगाए गए हैं। इन संसाधनों का इस्तेमाल जलमग्न इलाकों में फंसे लोगों तक पहुंचने और जरूरी सेवाएं उपलब्ध कराने में किया जा रहा है।
प्रभावित लोगों के लिए 105 राहत केंद्र भी चालू किए गए हैं। इन केंद्रों में करीब 2,460 लोगों के ठहरने की व्यवस्था की गई है। प्रशासन की ओर से यहां भोजन, दवाएं और अन्य आवश्यक वस्तुएं उपलब्ध कराई जा रही हैं।
बाढ़ प्रभावित इलाकों में पशुधन की सुरक्षा को भी राहत अभियान का हिस्सा बनाया गया है।
अधिकारियों के अनुसार प्रभावित क्षेत्रों में करीब 310 क्विंटल चारा पहुंचाया गया है, ताकि संकट की स्थिति में पशुओं के लिए भोजन की कमी न हो।
मंडाकिनी के जलस्तर पर निगरानी के बीच प्रशासन की प्राथमिकता फिलहाल लोगों की सुरक्षित निकासी, राहत सामग्री की निर्बाध आपूर्ति और बाढ़ से हुए नुकसान का आकलन करना है।
नदी के किनारे बसे गांवों के लिए अगले कुछ समय में जलस्तर और राहत अभियान की गति सबसे अहम बनी रहेंगी।
