Mayawati Breaks Silence on NEET Protest Row, Urges Government and Courts to End Deadlock Through Dialogue
Breaking her silence on the nationwide agitation over examination paper leaks, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Thursday appealed for an immediate end to the growing confrontation, cautioning that prolonged unrest was taking a toll on ordinary citizens and threatening to deepen the political divide across the country.
Calling for restraint from all stakeholders, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister urged both the Union government and constitutional institutions, including the judiciary, to take proactive steps towards resolving the crisis through dialogue rather than allowing it to escalate further.
She stressed that restoring normalcy should now become the foremost priority.
Her intervention came amid continuing demonstrations spearheaded by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), whose agitation over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations has entered a new phase after drawing widespread participation from students across several states.
The movement, which began as a protest against paper leaks and examination malpractice, has steadily expanded into a broader campaign demanding accountability and systemic reforms.
Expressing concern over the prolonged protests, Mayawati observed that the disruption was no longer confined to the national capital.
According to her, the impact was now being felt across different parts of the country, affecting everyday public life and creating an atmosphere of uncertainty for citizens.
In a message posted in Hindi on social media platform X, the BSP president remarked that the controversy had moved beyond the original issue of examination irregularities and had transformed into a direct political confrontation with the government.
She warned that unless timely intervention was made, the situation could become even more complicated to resolve.
Without identifying any political party by name, Mayawati criticised attempts to derive political advantage from the ongoing agitation.
She said it was unfortunate that an issue directly affecting the future of students was increasingly being viewed through the prism of partisan politics instead of being addressed with seriousness and sensitivity.
She maintained that several political organisations were attempting to use the expanding movement for their own narrow interests, a trend she described as unhealthy for democracy.
Such political competition, she cautioned, had already fuelled confrontation and conflict extending from protest sites on the streets to heated exchanges inside Parliament.
Appealing for a constructive approach, the BSP leader said neither prolonged confrontation nor political rhetoric would provide relief to students and their families.
Instead, she urged the government and protest organisers to sit across the table and arrive at a peaceful and mutually acceptable solution without any further delay.
Mayawati also referred to the indefinite sit-in at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, saying the prolonged demonstration reflected the depth of frustration among students and parents who had suffered because of repeated allegations of paper leaks and other examination-related irregularities, particularly in high-stakes tests such as NEET.
She observed that public anger had now spilled over from the streets into Parliament, underlining the seriousness of the issue.
Linking the present controversy to a larger governance challenge, Mayawati argued that repeated incidents of paper leaks and other public scandals reflected a deeper crisis of corruption within the system.
She said such episodes could not be viewed in isolation because they pointed to institutional weaknesses that required urgent correction.
Drawing a parallel with another recent controversy, the BSP chief said allegations surrounding the theft of donations from the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and recurring examination scandals had one common thread — the unchecked spread of corruption.
According to her, unless corruption is addressed comprehensively at every level, similar controversies would continue to surface regardless of the sector involved.
The former chief minister also invoked the principle of constitutional morality, describing it as the foundation of accountable governance.
She remarked that the steady erosion of this value was weakening democratic institutions and gradually damaging the country’s administrative framework.
Recalling the vision of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Constitution,
Mayawati said he had repeatedly underlined the importance of constitutional morality for ensuring justice, transparency and good governance.
She observed that ignoring those ideals had allowed systemic shortcomings to take root over the years.
Concluding her appeal, the BSP supremo urged every stakeholder to rise above political differences in the larger national interest.
She maintained that the present situation demanded responsible leadership rather than confrontation and called upon constitutional institutions to play a more proactive role in restoring public confidence.
She said the Centre, the protesting groups and institutions entrusted with safeguarding the Constitution should discharge their respective responsibilities with sincerity and urgency.
According to her, coordinated action by all concerned was the only practical way to resolve the crisis peacefully and prevent further disruption to students’ lives.
Mayawati stressed that the issue had now gone far beyond politics and had become a matter directly affecting the country’s future.
She expressed hope that dialogue, constitutional processes and collective responsibility would prevail over confrontation, enabling students to return to their studies and the nation to move beyond the current impasse.

देशभर में प्रतियोगी परीक्षाओं में पेपर लीक को लेकर जारी छात्र आंदोलन के बीच बहुजन समाज पार्टी (बसपा) प्रमुख मायावती ने पहली बार अपनी चुप्पी तोड़ी है।
उन्होंने कहा कि यह मुद्दा अब केवल परीक्षा प्रणाली तक सीमित नहीं रह गया, बल्कि राजनीतिक रंग ले चुका है। ऐसे में केंद्र सरकार और संवैधानिक संस्थाओं को आगे आकर ऐसा समाधान निकालना चाहिए, जिससे टकराव समाप्त हो और सामान्य स्थिति बहाल हो सके।
पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा कि लंबे समय से जारी विरोध प्रदर्शनों का असर अब केवल आंदोलन स्थलों तक सीमित नहीं है।
उनका कहना था कि दिल्ली के साथ-साथ कई राज्यों में भी सामान्य जनजीवन प्रभावित हो रहा है और यदि समय रहते समाधान नहीं निकाला गया तो स्थिति और जटिल हो सकती है।
मायावती की यह प्रतिक्रिया ऐसे समय आई है जब प्रतियोगी परीक्षाओं में कथित अनियमितताओं के खिलाफ कॉकरोच जनता पार्टी (सीजेपी) के नेतृत्व में चल रहा आंदोलन लगातार विस्तार ले रहा है।
शुरुआत में छात्रों के आंदोलन के रूप में शुरू हुआ यह अभियान अब राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर परीक्षा प्रणाली में सुधार और जवाबदेही की मांग का बड़ा मंच बन चुका है।
सोशल मीडिया मंच एक्स पर हिंदी में साझा किए गए अपने संदेश में बसपा सुप्रीमो ने कहा कि मूल मुद्दा अब राजनीति की भेंट चढ़ चुका है।
उनके अनुसार पेपर लीक का प्रश्न अब सरकार और आंदोलनकारियों के बीच सीधी टकराव की स्थिति में बदल गया है, जिससे पूरे देश में तनाव का वातावरण बन रहा है।
किसी भी राजनीतिक दल का नाम लिए बिना उन्होंने कहा कि छात्रों के भविष्य से जुड़े इस गंभीर विषय को विभिन्न दल अपने-अपने सीमित राजनीतिक हितों के लिए इस्तेमाल कर रहे हैं। उनका मानना है कि यह प्रवृत्ति न केवल दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण है बल्कि लोकतांत्रिक व्यवस्था के लिए भी स्वस्थ संकेत नहीं है।
मायावती ने कहा कि आंदोलन के विस्तार के साथ राजनीतिक हस्तक्षेप भी बढ़ा है, जिसके कारण सड़क से लेकर संसद तक टकराव और आरोप-प्रत्यारोप का माहौल बन गया है। उन्होंने इसे देशहित के लिए उचित नहीं बताते हुए सभी पक्षों से संयम बरतने की अपील की।
उन्होंने जोर देकर कहा कि सबसे अधिक नुकसान उन विद्यार्थियों और उनके परिवारों को हो रहा है, जिनका भविष्य इन परीक्षाओं पर निर्भर है। इसलिए आंदोलन को राजनीतिक प्रतिस्पर्धा का माध्यम बनाने के बजाय सभी संबंधित पक्षों को बातचीत की मेज पर बैठकर शीघ्र समाधान निकालना चाहिए।
बसपा प्रमुख ने दिल्ली के जंतर-मंतर पर जारी अनिश्चितकालीन धरने का भी उल्लेख किया।
उन्होंने कहा कि नीट सहित अन्य महत्वपूर्ण प्रतियोगी परीक्षाओं में कथित पेपर लीक और अनियमितताओं से प्रभावित छात्र तथा उनके परिजन लंबे समय से न्याय की मांग कर रहे हैं।
यही कारण है कि यह मुद्दा अब सड़कों से निकलकर संसद तक पहुंच चुका है और पूरे देश में व्यापक बहस का विषय बन गया है।
मायावती ने इस पूरे विवाद को केवल परीक्षा प्रणाली तक सीमित न मानते हुए इसे देश में व्याप्त व्यापक भ्रष्टाचार से जोड़ दिया। उनका कहना था कि बार-बार सामने आ रहे पेपर लीक और अन्य विवाद प्रशासनिक व्यवस्था की गहरी खामियों की ओर संकेत करते हैं, जिन्हें नजरअंदाज नहीं किया जा सकता।
उन्होंने कहा कि चाहे अयोध्या के राम मंदिर में चढ़ावे की कथित चोरी का मामला हो या प्रतियोगी परीक्षाओं में प्रश्नपत्र लीक होने की घटनाएं, दोनों की जड़ में व्यवस्था के विभिन्न स्तरों पर फैला भ्रष्टाचार ही दिखाई देता है।
जब तक इस समस्या पर प्रभावी अंकुश नहीं लगाया जाएगा, तब तक ऐसे विवाद बार-बार सामने आते रहेंगे।
बसपा प्रमुख ने आगे कहा कि यह केवल प्रशासनिक विफलता का प्रश्न नहीं है, बल्कि संविधान की मूल भावना और संवैधानिक नैतिकता से भी जुड़ा विषय है।
उन्होंने चिंता जताई कि संवैधानिक मूल्यों की लगातार उपेक्षा लोकतांत्रिक संस्थाओं को भीतर ही भीतर कमजोर कर रही है और शासन व्यवस्था को दीमक की तरह खोखला बना रही है।
डॉ. भीमराव आंबेडकर का उल्लेख करते हुए मायावती ने कहा कि संविधान निर्माता ने सुशासन की आधारशिला के रूप में संवैधानिक नैतिकता पर विशेष बल दिया था।
उनके अनुसार यदि शासन व्यवस्था उसी भावना के अनुरूप संचालित होती, तो आज देश को ऐसी परिस्थितियों का सामना शायद नहीं करना पड़ता।
अपने वक्तव्य के अंत में मायावती ने सभी पक्षों से राजनीतिक मतभेदों से ऊपर उठकर राष्ट्रीय हित को प्राथमिकता देने की अपील की। उन्होंने कहा कि वर्तमान संकट का समाधान टकराव से नहीं बल्कि जिम्मेदार नेतृत्व, संवाद और संवैधानिक प्रक्रिया के माध्यम से ही संभव है।
उन्होंने केंद्र सरकार, आंदोलन का नेतृत्व कर रहे संगठनों और संविधान के अनुरूप कार्य करने वाली संस्थाओं से अपने-अपने दायित्वों का गंभीरता और निष्पक्षता के साथ निर्वहन करने का आग्रह किया।
उनके अनुसार यदि सभी पक्ष सकारात्मक पहल करें तो मौजूदा गतिरोध का शांतिपूर्ण समाधान निकाला जा सकता है और छात्रों के भविष्य को लेकर बनी अनिश्चितता भी समाप्त हो सकती है।
मायावती ने अंत में कहा कि यह मुद्दा अब केवल राजनीतिक बहस का विषय नहीं रह गया है, बल्कि देश के युवाओं और उनके भविष्य से जुड़ा राष्ट्रीय प्रश्न बन चुका है।
उन्होंने उम्मीद जताई कि सरकार, न्यायपालिका और आंदोलनकारी आपसी संवाद के जरिए ऐसा रास्ता निकालेंगे, जिससे छात्रों का भरोसा बहाल हो और देश सामान्य स्थिति की ओर लौट सके।
