Modi to Travel to Russia for Annual Summit After Putin Extends Invitation
India and Russia prepare for another high-level engagement as Modi and Putin discuss strategic cooperation, global conflicts and economic ties
PM Narendra Modi has accepted Vladimir Putin’s invitation to Russia for the 24th India-Russia Annual Summit after talks in New Delhi on bilateral and global issues.
The next major meeting between India and Russia will take place in Russia, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi accepting President Vladimir Putin’s invitation for the 24th India-Russia Annual Summit.
The two governments will now work out the dates for the meeting through diplomatic channels. The schedule will be determined after taking into account the convenience of both sides.
The announcement followed a meeting between Modi and Putin in New Delhi on Friday, held alongside the BRICS Summit.
Their discussions ranged across the strategic partnership between the two countries as well as developments beyond their bilateral relationship.
A notable feature of the latest engagement was its timing.
The Russian and Indian leaders had met just days earlier, making Friday’s meeting their second encounter within a fortnight.
Their previous interaction took place in Bishkek on August 31 during the 26th SCO Summit.
The discussions covered several areas that form the backbone of India-Russia cooperation.
Defence, energy, space, trade and people-to-people relations were among the sectors reviewed by the two leaders.
The talks also reflected the wider geopolitical environment confronting both countries.
Modi and Putin exchanged assessments of developments in West Asia and the Black Sea region, including their consequences for maritime commerce.
The security of Indian seafarers was among the concerns linked to the disruption caused by conflicts in the Black Sea region.
India’s position, as reiterated by Modi, remains that dialogue and diplomacy should form the basis for settling conflicts.
Modi also indicated that India remains prepared to contribute to initiatives aimed at promoting peace, according to the information released by the Ministry of External Affairs.
The two leaders additionally turned their attention to business and industrial cooperation through INNOPROM India.
The Russian international industrial exhibition is being hosted in India for the first time from September 9 to 11.
Its debut in India was welcomed by Modi and Putin as an opportunity to deepen commercial and industrial links between the two countries.
They subsequently toured the exhibition together and interacted with people participating in the event.
According to MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, the meeting involved a broad review of the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.
The talks indicate that the relationship continues to span strategic, economic, technological and societal areas.
The forthcoming annual summit will therefore provide the two sides with another forum for reviewing the progress achieved since their previous high-level engagements and for discussing the future direction of bilateral cooperation.
While the summit’s exact dates remain pending, the acceptance of Putin’s invitation sets the stage for another round of direct talks between the Indian and Russian leadership.

भारत और रूस के शीर्ष नेतृत्व के बीच अगले दौर की बातचीत अब रूस में होगी।
प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने राष्ट्रपति व्लादिमीर पुतिन की ओर से दिए गए 24वें भारत-रूस वार्षिक शिखर सम्मेलन के निमंत्रण को स्वीकार कर लिया है।
दोनों देशों के अधिकारी अब बैठक की तारीख पर सहमति बनाने की प्रक्रिया आगे बढ़ाएंगे। कार्यक्रम का अंतिम समय राजनयिक माध्यमों से आपसी सुविधा के आधार पर तय किया जाएगा।
रूस के साथ संबंधों की दिशा पर यह फैसला ऐसे समय आया है जब दोनों नेताओं के बीच उच्चस्तरीय संपर्क लगातार बना हुआ है।
मोदी और पुतिन ने शुक्रवार को नई दिल्ली में BRICS शिखर सम्मेलन से इतर मुलाकात की और द्विपक्षीय रिश्तों के साथ-साथ वैश्विक घटनाक्रम पर भी चर्चा की।
यह हाल के दिनों में दोनों नेताओं की लगातार दूसरी मुलाकात थी। इससे पहले दोनों 31 अगस्त को बिश्केक में 26वें SCO शिखर सम्मेलन के दौरान मिले थे।
शुक्रवार की बातचीत में भारत-रूस संबंधों के कई अहम आयाम सामने आए। दोनों पक्षों ने रक्षा, ऊर्जा, अंतरिक्ष, व्यापार और लोगों के बीच संपर्क से जुड़े सहयोग की प्रगति पर विचार किया।
बैठक का एजेंडा केवल दोनों देशों के आपसी संबंधों तक सीमित नहीं रहा। पश्चिम एशिया और ब्लैक सी क्षेत्र में चल रहे संघर्षों से पैदा हुए क्षेत्रीय और वैश्विक प्रभावों पर भी मोदी और पुतिन ने अपने विचार साझा किए।
ब्लैक सी क्षेत्र में जारी घटनाक्रम ने समुद्री व्यापार को प्रभावित किया है। इसके साथ भारतीय नाविकों की सुरक्षा भी चिंता का विषय बनी है।
ऐसे माहौल में प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने भारत की उस नीति को दोहराया कि विवादों का समाधान बातचीत और कूटनीतिक प्रयासों के जरिए किया जाना चाहिए।
मोदी ने शांति स्थापित करने की कोशिशों में भारत की भागीदारी की इच्छा भी जाहिर की। भारत ने संघर्षों के समाधान के लिए रचनात्मक और शांतिपूर्ण प्रयासों में योगदान देने की अपनी तत्परता व्यक्त की है।
आर्थिक और औद्योगिक साझेदारी को भी बैठक में जगह मिली। दोनों नेताओं ने INNOPROM India के आयोजन का स्वागत किया।
रूस की यह अंतरराष्ट्रीय औद्योगिक प्रदर्शनी पहली बार भारत में आयोजित की जा रही है और इसका आयोजन 9 से 11 सितंबर तक हो रहा है।
प्रदर्शनी को भारत-रूस के बीच कारोबारी तथा औद्योगिक संबंधों को आगे बढ़ाने के अवसर के रूप में देखा गया।
बैठक के बाद मोदी और पुतिन ने कार्यक्रम स्थल का दौरा किया और वहां मौजूद प्रतिभागियों से बातचीत की।
विदेश मंत्रालय के प्रवक्ता रणधीर जायसवाल ने बताया कि बातचीत में भारत और रूस की विशेष एवं विशेषाधिकार प्राप्त रणनीतिक साझेदारी के विभिन्न पहलुओं की समीक्षा हुई।
आगामी वार्षिक शिखर सम्मेलन इस साझेदारी की प्रगति पर आगे विचार करने का मंच उपलब्ध कराएगा। इसके जरिए दोनों देश मौजूदा सहयोग की समीक्षा के साथ भविष्य के क्षेत्रों पर भी शीर्ष स्तर पर चर्चा कर सकेंगे।
फिलहाल सम्मेलन की तारीख घोषित नहीं की गई है। दोनों देशों के बीच राजनयिक बातचीत पूरी होने के बाद 24वें भारत-रूस वार्षिक शिखर सम्मेलन का कार्यक्रम तय किया जाएगा।
