Mumbai on High Alert After Delhi Protest Crackdown; Heavy Police Deployment, Activists Summoned
Mumbai: Heightened security measures have been put in place across Mumbai a day after the Delhi Police took action against demonstrators participating in the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar.
A substantial police presence was visible at several locations across the city, particularly in South Mumbai around Azad Maidan, as authorities sought to prevent gatherings in solidarity with the protesters who were dispersed during Monday’s ‘Chalo Sansad’ march in the national capital using lathi charge and tear gas.
Even as the city remained under close surveillance, Mumbai Police issued summons to several activists and students who had taken part in Sunday’s protest outside Shivaji Park, alleging that the demonstration had been organised without prior permission.
Police had already registered seven First Information Reports (FIRs) against nearly 900 individuals in connection with the gathering, which was also attended by Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray.
Fresh legal action continued on Monday, with police filing at least seven more FIRs against over 300 people linked to separate demonstrations across Mumbai.
In addition, nearly 600 participants of the Shivaji Park protest have also been named in the cases, taking the total number of those booked in connection with the agitation to around 900.
Explaining the security arrangements, a senior police official said permission had not been granted for protests proposed in South Mumbai.
He added that adequate police personnel had been deployed at sensitive locations across the city to ensure that no unlawful assembly or disturbance of public order took place.
Questioning the police action, the Cockroach Janta Party reacted through a post on X, asking why peaceful demonstrators were being detained in Mumbai.
The party maintained that peaceful protest is a democratic right and asserted that attempts to suppress youth-led movements through police action would only strengthen public resolve.
Providing further details, a Mumbai Police officer said notices had been served on several individuals named in the three FIRs registered at Shivaji Park Police Station, directing them to appear before investigating officers as part of the legal process.
The Delhi Police operation on Monday against the CJP campaign has emerged as a defining moment for the movement.
What initially began as a satirical social media campaign later gathered momentum after activist Sonam Wangchuk joined the agitation with a hunger strike, transforming it into a nationwide movement that has rapidly drawn attention across several states.
Footage circulating widely on social media showed scenes of police personnel using batons, dragging protesters away, and firing tear gas shells to disperse demonstrators.
The videos quickly went viral, triggering strong reactions from different sections of society and intensifying criticism over the handling of the protests.
Keeping in view the growing public response and the possibility of similar demonstrations, Mumbai Police significantly reinforced security arrangements across several parts of the city.
Senior officers said additional personnel had been stationed at strategic locations to prevent any untoward incident and maintain law and order.
Despite the heavy police deployment in the national capital, supporters of the CJP movement have continued their sit-in protest in Delhi.
The demonstrators have refused to vacate the protest site, which remains under strict security vigil as the standoff between protesters and authorities continues.

मुंबई: जंतर-मंतर पर कॉकरोच जनता पार्टी (सीजेपी) के प्रदर्शन के खिलाफ दिल्ली पुलिस की कार्रवाई के एक दिन बाद मुंबई में सुरक्षा व्यवस्था अभूतपूर्व रूप से कड़ी कर दी गई।
शहर के विभिन्न हिस्सों, विशेषकर दक्षिण मुंबई स्थित आज़ाद मैदान और उसके आसपास बड़ी संख्या में पुलिस बल तैनात किया गया ताकि दिल्ली में सोमवार को आयोजित ‘चलो संसद’ मार्च के समर्थन में किसी भी तरह का प्रदर्शन या भीड़ एकत्र न हो सके।
दिल्ली में प्रदर्शनकारियों को तितर-बितर करने के लिए पुलिस ने लाठीचार्ज और आंसू गैस का इस्तेमाल किया था।
संभावित विरोध प्रदर्शनों को देखते हुए मुंबई पुलिस ने रविवार को शिवाजी पार्क मैदान के बाहर बिना अनुमति प्रदर्शन करने के आरोप में शामिल कई छात्र नेताओं और सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं को पूछताछ के लिए तलब किया है।
इस प्रदर्शन के सिलसिले में पहले ही लगभग 900 लोगों के खिलाफ सात प्राथमिकी दर्ज की जा चुकी हैं। इस कार्यक्रम में शिवसेना (उद्धव बालासाहेब ठाकरे) के प्रमुख उद्धव ठाकरे भी शामिल हुए थे।
कानूनी कार्रवाई का दायरा सोमवार को और बढ़ गया, जब शहर में हुए अलग-अलग प्रदर्शनों के संबंध में 300 से अधिक लोगों के खिलाफ कम से कम सात नई एफआईआर दर्ज की गईं।
इसके अलावा शिवाजी पार्क के बाहर प्रदर्शन करने वाले करीब 600 लोगों के नाम भी मामलों में शामिल किए गए हैं।
इस प्रकार आंदोलन से जुड़े कुल नामजद लोगों की संख्या लगभग 900 तक पहुंच गई है।
सुरक्षा तैयारियों की जानकारी देते हुए एक वरिष्ठ पुलिस अधिकारी ने बताया कि दक्षिण मुंबई में प्रस्तावित किसी भी विरोध प्रदर्शन की अनुमति नहीं दी गई है।
उन्होंने कहा कि कानून-व्यवस्था बनाए रखने और किसी भी अवैध जमावड़े को रोकने के लिए संवेदनशील इलाकों में अतिरिक्त पुलिस बल तैनात किया गया है।
मुंबई में प्रदर्शनकारियों को हिरासत में लिए जाने पर प्रतिक्रिया व्यक्त करते हुए कॉकरोच जनता पार्टी ने सोशल मीडिया मंच एक्स पर सवाल उठाया कि शांतिपूर्ण प्रदर्शनकारियों को आखिर क्यों रोका जा रहा है।
पार्टी ने कहा कि शांतिपूर्ण विरोध लोकतंत्र का मूल अधिकार है और पुलिस बल के सहारे युवाओं के आंदोलन को दबाने की कोशिश कभी सफल नहीं होगी।
संगठन ने दावा किया कि इस प्रकार की कार्रवाई से आंदोलन और अधिक मजबूत होकर उभरेगा।
मुंबई पुलिस के एक अधिकारी ने बताया कि शिवाजी पार्क पुलिस थाने में दर्ज तीन मामलों में नामजद कुछ लोगों को नोटिस जारी कर जांच में शामिल होने के लिए बुलाया गया है।
अधिकारियों के अनुसार आगे की कार्रवाई कानून के प्रावधानों के तहत की जाएगी।
सोमवार को दिल्ली पुलिस द्वारा सीजेपी के अभियान के खिलाफ की गई कार्रवाई ने इस आंदोलन को एक नया मोड़ दे दिया है।
शुरुआत में यह अभियान सोशल मीडिया पर व्यंग्यात्मक विरोध के रूप में सामने आया था, लेकिन बाद में सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता सोनम वांगचुक के अनशन पर बैठने के बाद इसे व्यापक जनसमर्थन मिलने लगा और देखते ही देखते यह आंदोलन देश के कई हिस्सों तक फैल गया।
सोशल मीडिया पर तेजी से वायरल हुए अनेक वीडियो में पुलिसकर्मियों को प्रदर्शनकारियों पर लाठियां बरसाते, उन्हें जबरन घसीटते और भीड़ को तितर-बितर करने के लिए आंसू गैस के गोले छोड़ते हुए देखा गया।
इन दृश्यों ने विभिन्न वर्गों में तीखी प्रतिक्रिया पैदा कर दी और पुलिस कार्रवाई को लेकर व्यापक बहस छिड़ गई।
दिल्ली की घटनाओं के बाद संभावित जनाक्रोश और विरोध प्रदर्शनों की आशंका को देखते हुए मुंबई पुलिस ने पूरे शहर में सुरक्षा व्यवस्था और सख्त कर दी है।
वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों के अनुसार संवेदनशील क्षेत्रों में अतिरिक्त पुलिस बल तैनात किया गया है ताकि किसी भी अप्रिय स्थिति से समय रहते निपटा जा सके और शांति व्यवस्था बनी रहे।
उधर, राष्ट्रीय राजधानी में भारी पुलिस निगरानी के बावजूद सीजेपी समर्थकों ने अपना धरना समाप्त करने से इनकार कर दिया है। प्रदर्शनकारी अब भी अपने निर्धारित स्थल पर डटे हुए हैं, जबकि पूरे इलाके में सुरक्षा एजेंसियां लगातार निगरानी बनाए हुए हैं।
