Mumbai Traffic Clash Goes Viral: Teena Choudhry Speaks Out After Confrontation During BJP Rally

For the first time since her heated exchange with Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan went viral, Teena Choudhry has come forward to share her side of the story.

While expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support she has received, she has also made a clear appeal—don’t turn her experience into a political battleground.

The now widely circulated video captures Choudhry confronting Mahajan during a BJP protest march in Mumbai, visibly upset over the severe traffic disruption caused by the rally.

The incident struck a chord with many, as it mirrored a frustration that urban commuters often face.

Choudhry, 50, lives in Prabhadevi and has a background in television, having appeared in early 2000s shows like Adalat and films such as Sssshhh…. She is also married to filmmaker Robbie Grewal, known for directing Romeo Akbar Walter and Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins.

What Happened That Day

The confrontation took place on April 21 during the BJP’s “Jan Aakrosh” rally, which moved from Jamboori Maidan to the NSCI Dome.

The protest aimed to highlight issues such as delays in implementing women’s reservation. However, for commuters in the Worli–Prabhadevi stretch, the rally translated into long, chaotic traffic snarls.

Police had blocked key junctions to facilitate the march, leaving many stranded for extended periods without clear communication.

Among them was Choudhry, who had stepped out to pick up her daughter from a music class.

In a video statement released later, she described how a routine 45-minute errand turned into an ordeal.

After dropping her daughter off at 4 pm, she expected to return by 4:45 pm. Instead, she found herself stuck in a gridlock near Mahindra Taaz.

“At first, I waited patiently,” she explained. “But after about 25 minutes with no movement, I stepped out to understand what was happening.”

She noticed two buses parked in a way that completely blocked the road. What frustrated her more was the lack of response from the authorities.

“For nearly one and a half hours, I approached multiple police officers. No one responded. No one even acknowledged me,” she said.

At one point—captured in the viral clip—she threw a bottle on the ground, which she later clarified was an attempt to grab attention, not an act of aggression.

A Mother’s Anxiety Turns Into Anger

As time passed, her concern grew. By 6:15 pm, she still had no clarity on when she would be able to reach her daughter.

“It wasn’t just about traffic anymore. I didn’t know how my child was, or how long she had been waiting,” she said.

Frustrated and anxious, she eventually approached Mahajan, who was speaking to the media at the time. In the video, she can be heard questioning why such a protest was being held on a busy road instead of a designated ground.

Despite the tense exchange, Choudhry acknowledged that Mahajan was the only one who responded.

“He at least listened. Following his instructions, the buses were moved, and traffic finally started clearing,” she noted.

A Larger Concern Beyond Politics

In her statement, Choudhry also reflected on her family’s deep ties to the armed forces, underscoring her belief in public service and accountability.

“My grandfather and father both served in the Indian Army, and several members of my family have worn the uniform. That’s why I feel strongly about how public servants should treat citizens,” she said.

She stressed that wearing a uniform should come with responsibility—not authority without accountability.

“Don’t Politicise This”

Even as her video gained traction online, with many praising her for speaking up, Choudhry urged people not to use her experience for political agendas.

“Please don’t use me as a tool. This isn’t about one party. Every political group has, at some point, shown disregard for ordinary citizens in situations like this,” she said.

She also questioned the narrative that she should become a spokesperson for public frustration.

“Why should I be your voice? You already have one,” she added.

Legal Developments

The incident has now taken a legal turn. A complaint was filed by Zen Sadavarte, daughter of lawyer Gunaratna Sadavarte, accusing Choudhry of causing a disturbance, using abusive language, and obstructing public duty.

However, authorities have not yet registered an FIR. According to DCP Krishnakant Upadhyay, the complaint is currently under review, and any action will follow due legal process.

Mahajan, on his part, chose not to comment further. Earlier, he had issued a public apology, acknowledging the inconvenience caused by the rally but also stating that Choudhry’s language during the confrontation was inappropriate.

Why This Story Resonates

Beyond the specifics of this incident, what has made it widely relatable is its familiarity.

Long traffic jams due to political rallies, VIP movement, or poor planning are a daily reality in many Indian cities. Choudhry’s reaction—raw, emotional, and immediate—simply brought that shared frustration into the spotlight.

Her message, however, remains grounded: this is less about politics and more about accountability, empathy, and the everyday struggles of ordinary citizens trying to navigate their lives.
