Nana Patekar Given State Honours at Final Farewell in Pune; Film Industry Mourns Veteran Star
The acclaimed actor was cremated at his Donje farmhouse after he died in Goa at 75, bringing an end to a remarkable career spanning Marathi theatre, Hindi cinema and social service.
PUNE: Maharashtra bid an emotional farewell to one of its most distinctive acting talents on Thursday night, as Nana Patekar’s final rites were performed with full state honours at his farmhouse in Donje, on the outskirts of Pune.
The veteran actor, whose performances left a lasting impression on both Marathi and Hindi cinema, died in Goa earlier in the day at the age of 75.
The funeral brought together political leaders, members of the film fraternity, relatives and admirers who had gathered to pay their respects.
Among those present were Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Sunetra Pawar, Chandrakant Patil, Madhuri Misal, Murlidhar Mohol and Ramdas Athawale. Actor Jackie Shroff also joined the mourners.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was among those who paid tribute to Patekar at Pune airport when his mortal remains arrived from Goa.
The body was subsequently taken to the actor’s farmhouse, known as Nanachi Wadi, in Donje village near Khadakwasla, where the final ceremony was held.
Before leaving Goa, Patekar’s mortal remains were kept briefly at Goa Medical College and Hospital to enable admirers to pay their last respects.
His wife and son were present as fans gathered at the hospital. Some offered floral tributes, while others touched his feet in a traditional gesture of farewell.
The body was later taken in a decorated ambulance to Manohar International Airport at Mopa for the journey to Pune.
Patekar died in the early hours of October 8 after suffering a cardiac emergency at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa.
He was found unconscious and taken for medical treatment, but efforts to revive him proved unsuccessful. He was declared dead at approximately 5:20 am. His son, Malhar Patekar, confirmed the news of his passing.
The Maharashtra government decided to accord the actor a state funeral in recognition of his contribution to Indian cinema and theatre.
Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar said the honour reflected Patekar’s exceptional work across Marathi theatre and Marathi and Hindi films.
Shelar also remembered the actor’s journey from Yeola to national prominence, describing his death as a major loss to the arts.
Grief was evident among those who reached the hospital after hearing the news. Patekar’s nephew, Sachin Patekar, was among the family members who arrived in Goa.
Actor Sayaji Shinde, a close friend who was in the state for a film shoot, also rushed to the hospital. Speaking to reporters, Shinde said the news had come as a shock and that he had hurried there as soon as he heard about it.
Tributes poured in from across the country, reflecting the actor’s influence beyond the screen. Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Manoj Bajpayee, Rajinikanth, Paresh Rawal, Prakash Raj and Jr NTR were among the film personalities who remembered him publicly.
President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several chief ministers also expressed their condolences.
Patekar’s career was distinguished by his ability to inhabit sharply contrasting characters, from troubled and intense figures to memorable comic roles. He first worked in theatre before entering films with Gaman in 1978.
His performances in films including Parinda, Krantiveer, Khamoshi: The Musical, Ab Tak Chhappan, Raajneeti and Welcome demonstrated the range that made him a respected figure in Indian cinema.
His portrayal of Uday Shetty in Welcome introduced his distinctive screen persona to a wide audience in a lighter, comic setting.
His contribution to Marathi cinema was equally significant, particularly through Natsamrat.
He also directed Prahaar: The Final Attack. Over his career, he received three National Film Awards and was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2013.
Away from films, Patekar was associated with social work through Naam Foundation, which has worked with communities affected by rural distress.
His public life therefore extended beyond acting, adding another dimension to the legacy remembered by admirers.
With his passing, Indian cinema has lost an actor known for his uncompromising performances, unmistakable voice and refusal to be confined to a single kind of role.
His work across theatre and two major film industries leaves behind a body of performances that will continue to be revisited by audiences.

पुणे: भारतीय सिनेमा के सशक्त और बहुआयामी अभिनेता नाना पाटेकर को गुरुवार रात पुणे के निकट डोणजे स्थित उनके फार्महाउस में राजकीय सम्मान के साथ अंतिम विदाई दी गई। 75 वर्ष की उम्र में गोवा में उनके निधन से फिल्म जगत और उनके प्रशंसकों में शोक की लहर दौड़ गई।
रंगमंच से लेकर हिंदी और मराठी फिल्मों तक फैले उनके लंबे सफर ने उन्हें अभिनय की दुनिया में एक अलग पहचान दिलाई थी।
अंतिम संस्कार में राजनीति, सिनेमा और सामाजिक जीवन से जुड़ी कई प्रमुख हस्तियां शामिल हुईं। महाराष्ट्र के उपमुख्यमंत्री एकनाथ शिंदे, सुनेत्रा पवार, चंद्रकांत पाटिल, माधुरी मिसाल, मुरलीधर मोहोल और रामदास आठवले सहित कई नेताओं ने श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित की।
अभिनेता जैकी श्रॉफ भी अपने साथी कलाकार को अंतिम विदाई देने पहुंचे।
मुख्यमंत्री देवेंद्र फडणवीस ने पुणे हवाई अड्डे पर नाना पाटेकर के पार्थिव शरीर के पहुंचने पर उन्हें श्रद्धांजलि दी। गोवा से लाए गए पार्थिव शरीर को बाद में खड़कवासला के निकट डोणजे गांव स्थित उनके फार्महाउस ले जाया गया।
यह स्थान ‘नानाची वाडी’ के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। यहीं परिवार, मित्रों और प्रशंसकों की मौजूदगी में अंतिम संस्कार संपन्न हुआ।
पुणे रवाना किए जाने से पहले गोवा मेडिकल कॉलेज एवं अस्पताल में उनके पार्थिव शरीर को कुछ समय के लिए अंतिम दर्शन हेतु रखा गया। उनकी पत्नी और बेटे मल्हार पाटेकर भी वहां मौजूद थे।
बड़ी संख्या में पहुंचे प्रशंसकों ने फूल चढ़ाकर श्रद्धांजलि दी। कुछ लोगों ने उनके चरण छूकर पारंपरिक तरीके से विदाई दी। इसके बाद सजे हुए एंबुलेंस में पार्थिव शरीर को मोपा स्थित मनोहर अंतरराष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डे ले जाया गया, जहां से उसे पुणे लाया गया।
नाना पाटेकर ने 8 अक्टूबर की सुबह गोवा के दोनापाउला स्थित अपने आवास पर हृदय संबंधी आपात स्थिति के बाद अंतिम सांस ली। वह अचेत अवस्था में पाए गए और उन्हें चिकित्सा सहायता के लिए ले जाया गया।
डॉक्टरों ने उन्हें बचाने की कोशिश की, लेकिन सफलता नहीं मिली। सुबह लगभग 5:20 बजे उन्हें मृत घोषित कर दिया गया। उनके बेटे मल्हार पाटेकर ने निधन की पुष्टि की।
महाराष्ट्र सरकार ने मराठी रंगमंच और हिंदी तथा मराठी फिल्मों में उनके उल्लेखनीय योगदान को देखते हुए राजकीय सम्मान के साथ अंतिम संस्कार कराने का निर्णय लिया था।
राज्य के सांस्कृतिक कार्य मंत्री आशीष शेलार ने कहा कि नाना पाटेकर का निधन कला जगत के लिए बड़ी क्षति है। उन्होंने येवला से निकलकर राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर अपनी पहचान बनाने वाले अभिनेता की उपलब्धियों को याद किया।
निधन की खबर मिलने के बाद परिवार के सदस्यों, मित्रों और सहयोगियों का गोवा पहुंचना जारी रहा। उनके भतीजे सचिन पाटेकर भी अस्पताल पहुंचे। अभिनेता सयाजी शिंदे, जो उस समय गोवा में शूटिंग के सिलसिले में थे, खबर सुनते ही अस्पताल पहुंच गए।
पत्रकारों से बातचीत में उन्होंने कहा कि यह खबर उनके लिए बेहद सदमे वाली थी और जानकारी मिलते ही वह वहां चले आए।
नाना पाटेकर के निधन पर फिल्म जगत के अनेक कलाकारों ने शोक व्यक्त किया।
अक्षय कुमार, रितेश देशमुख, मनोज बाजपेयी, रजनीकांत, परेश रावल, प्रकाश राज और जूनियर एनटीआर सहित कई सितारों ने उन्हें याद किया। राष्ट्रपति द्रौपदी मुर्मु, प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी और कई मुख्यमंत्रियों ने भी उनके निधन पर संवेदना जताई।
नाना पाटेकर की अभिनय यात्रा रंगमंच से शुरू हुई थी। वर्ष 1978 में फिल्म गमन से उन्होंने बड़े पर्दे पर कदम रखा। इसके बाद परिंदा, क्रांतिवीर, खामोशी: द म्यूजिकल, अब तक छप्पन, राजनीति और वेलकम जैसी फिल्मों में उनके अभिनय को सराहना मिली।
गंभीर भूमिकाओं में उनकी तीव्रता और हास्य किरदारों में उनकी सहजता ने उन्हें अलग पहचान दी। वेलकम में उदय शेट्टी का उनका किरदार दर्शकों के बीच खासा लोकप्रिय हुआ।
मराठी सिनेमा में भी उनका योगदान उल्लेखनीय रहा। फिल्म नटसम्राट में उनके अभिनय को व्यापक प्रशंसा मिली। उन्होंने प्रहार: द फाइनल अटैक का निर्देशन भी किया। अपने करियर में उन्हें तीन राष्ट्रीय फिल्म पुरस्कार मिले और वर्ष 2013 में पद्मश्री से सम्मानित किया गया।
फिल्मों से परे, नाना पाटेकर सामाजिक कार्यों से भी जुड़े रहे। नाम फाउंडेशन के माध्यम से ग्रामीण संकट से जूझ रहे समुदायों की मदद के प्रयासों में उनकी भागीदारी रही। इस वजह से उनकी पहचान केवल एक अभिनेता तक सीमित नहीं रही।
उनके निधन से भारतीय सिनेमा ने ऐसा कलाकार खो दिया है, जिसकी आवाज, अभिनय शैली और प्रभावशाली पर्दे की मौजूदगी सहज ही पहचानी जाती थी। रंगमंच और दो प्रमुख फिल्म उद्योगों में छोड़ी गई उनकी छाप आने वाली पीढ़ियों के दर्शकों और कलाकारों के लिए प्रेरणा बनी रहेगी।
