Opposition Refuses NEET Debate Until Dharmendra Pradhan Quits; BJP Dares Rivals to Face Discussion
New Delhi: The Opposition on Thursday hardened its stand over the NEET controversy, declaring that it would not participate in any discussion in Parliament until Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan steps down.
The announcement came amid mounting nationwide protests by students demanding accountability over the alleged NEET paper leak.
Congress MP K.C. Venugopal said the Opposition had conveyed its collective position to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
According to him, the parties had unanimously agreed that no debate on the issue would take place unless the Education Minister resigned.
However, he noted that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) did not join the common Opposition stand.
The Opposition’s position coincides with the growing student agitation across the country, where demonstrators have intensified their demand for Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation, alleging lapses in the conduct of competitive examinations and seeking greater accountability from the government.
The Centre, however, reiterated that it is prepared to address the issue inside Parliament.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the government was fully willing to hold a detailed discussion on the NEET controversy and respond to all concerns raised by the Opposition.
The political confrontation sharpened after Opposition Members of Parliament staged a demonstration within the Parliament complex on Thursday.
Responding to the protest, BJP national president Nitin Nabin accused Opposition parties, particularly the Congress, of deliberately avoiding a debate on the floor of the House.
Nabin alleged that the Opposition feared its position would be exposed during a parliamentary discussion.
He challenged all Opposition parties to participate in an open debate on every issue concerning students and young people, including the NEET controversy, asserting that the NDA government was fully prepared to answer every question.
Launching a direct attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the BJP leader claimed that avoiding parliamentary debate had become a recurring political strategy of the Congress and its allies.
Instead of engaging in discussions inside the House, he alleged, the Opposition preferred protests outside Parliament to escape public scrutiny.
The standoff has further intensified the political battle over the NEET issue, with the Opposition insisting that ministerial accountability must precede any debate, while the government maintains that Parliament remains the appropriate forum for resolving the controversy through discussion.

नई दिल्ली: नीट विवाद को लेकर विपक्ष ने गुरुवार को अपना रुख और सख्त कर दिया। विपक्षी दलों ने स्पष्ट कर दिया कि जब तक केंद्रीय शिक्षा मंत्री धर्मेंद्र प्रधान इस्तीफा नहीं देते, तब तक वे संसद में इस मुद्दे पर किसी भी चर्चा में भाग नहीं लेंगे।
यह फैसला ऐसे समय आया है जब देशभर में छात्र कथित नीट पेपर लीक मामले को लेकर लगातार प्रदर्शन कर रहे हैं और शिक्षा मंत्री के इस्तीफे की मांग तेज हो गई है।
कांग्रेस सांसद के.सी. वेणुगोपाल ने बताया कि विपक्ष की यह सामूहिक राय लोकसभा अध्यक्ष ओम बिरला को अवगत करा दी गई है।
उनके अनुसार अधिकांश विपक्षी दल इस बात पर सहमत हैं कि शिक्षा मंत्री के पद छोड़ने से पहले किसी भी प्रकार की चर्चा का कोई औचित्य नहीं है।
हालांकि उन्होंने कहा कि आम आदमी पार्टी (आप) और द्रविड़ मुनेत्र कषगम (डीएमके) ने इस साझा रुख का समर्थन नहीं किया।
विपक्ष का यह निर्णय उस समय सामने आया है जब विभिन्न राज्यों में छात्र आंदोलन लगातार तेज होता जा रहा है।
प्रदर्शनकारी कथित परीक्षा अनियमितताओं की निष्पक्ष जांच, जवाबदेही तय करने और केंद्रीय शिक्षा मंत्री के इस्तीफे की मांग को लेकर सड़कों पर उतर रहे हैं।
दूसरी ओर केंद्र सरकार ने दोहराया कि वह इस पूरे मामले पर संसद में विस्तृत चर्चा के लिए तैयार है।
संसदीय कार्य मंत्री किरेन रिजिजू ने कहा कि सरकार नीट से जुड़े सभी मुद्दों पर सदन में खुलकर बहस करने और विपक्ष के हर प्रश्न का उत्तर देने को तैयार है।
इस मुद्दे पर राजनीतिक टकराव उस समय और बढ़ गया जब विपक्षी सांसदों ने गुरुवार को संसद परिसर में प्रदर्शन किया। इसके बाद भाजपा के राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष नितिन नवीन ने विपक्ष, विशेषकर कांग्रेस, पर सदन में चर्चा से बचने का आरोप लगाया।
नितिन नवीन ने कहा कि विपक्ष को डर है कि संसद में बहस होने पर उसके दोहरे मानदंड देश और युवाओं के सामने उजागर हो जाएंगे।
उन्होंने सभी विपक्षी दलों को खुली चुनौती देते हुए कहा कि वे छात्रों और युवाओं से जुड़े हर मुद्दे, विशेषकर नीट विवाद, पर सदन में खुलकर चर्चा करें।
उन्होंने विश्वास जताया कि राष्ट्रीय जनतांत्रिक गठबंधन (एनडीए) सरकार हर सवाल का जवाब देने के लिए पूरी तरह तैयार है।
कांग्रेस नेता राहुल गांधी पर निशाना साधते हुए भाजपा अध्यक्ष ने आरोप लगाया कि संसद में बहस से बचना कांग्रेस और उसके सहयोगियों की पुरानी राजनीतिक शैली रही है।
उन्होंने कहा कि सदन के भीतर चर्चा का सामना करने के बजाय विपक्ष बाहर विरोध प्रदर्शन को प्राथमिकता देता है।
नीट विवाद को लेकर सत्ता पक्ष और विपक्ष के बीच जारी यह गतिरोध अब और गहरा गया है।
जहां विपक्ष का कहना है कि किसी भी चर्चा से पहले शिक्षा मंत्री की जवाबदेही तय होनी चाहिए, वहीं सरकार का मानना है कि लोकतांत्रिक व्यवस्था में संसद ही ऐसे संवेदनशील मुद्दों पर सार्थक बहस और समाधान का सर्वोत्तम मंच है।
