Pawan Yadav Murder: Highway Blocked in Prayagraj as Family, Supporters Protest
Two-hour blockade at Handia overbridge disrupts Prayagraj-Varanasi and Varanasi-Kanpur routes; protesters demand compensation, government job and action against accused.
Prayagraj: Anger over the killing of Samajwadi Party leader and former village head Pawan Yadav spilled onto the streets of Handia on Wednesday, with his family members and supporters blocking the highway with his body and demanding stringent action against those accused in the murder.
The protest was staged near the Handia overbridge after Yadav’s body was brought back to his village following the post-mortem.
The blockade brought traffic on the Prayagraj-Varanasi and Varanasi-Kanpur routes to a standstill for nearly two hours, causing disruption on one of the area’s key road corridors.
Tension escalated during the demonstration when some protesters began pulling apart the railing installed along the highway divider despite the presence of police personnel.
The crowd demanded an encounter with the accused, along with bulldozer action against those allegedly responsible.
The family also placed a series of demands before the administration.
These included financial assistance of ₹1 crore for the bereaved family, a government job for Pawan Yadav’s son, two bighas of land and an arms licence.
The protesters insisted that the demands be addressed before the agitation was withdrawn.
Police and administrative officials reached the spot after receiving information about the blockade.
Personnel from Handia and neighbouring police stations were deployed to prevent the situation from worsening.
Handia SDM Nandini Shah and ACP Sheshdhar Pandey attempted to persuade the protesters to clear the road.
After the standoff continued, police used limited force to disperse the crowd and detained several people, including a woman leader associated with the Samajwadi Party, according to the report provided.
The administration subsequently assured the family that their demands would be conveyed to the government and that appropriate action would be pursued.
Following the assurance, the protesters cleared the highway and relatives took the body away for the last rites. Traffic gradually returned to normal after the blockade ended.
Post-mortem conducted amid heavy security.
Earlier in the day, Pawan Yadav’s post-mortem was carried out amid heightened security arrangements.
Police personnel from several stations were deployed at the post-mortem facility as authorities remained alert to the possibility of further protests.
Several political figures, including former MP Dharmraj Patel, MLC Man Singh and MLA Vijma Yadav, reached the post-mortem house to meet the family and party workers.
Yadav’s relatives and Samajwadi Party workers wanted the district magistrate to meet them personally, saying they wished to put their demands directly before the senior district administration.
ADCP City Jogendra Lal and Handia SDM Nandini Shah later met Yadav’s brother Ashok and his son Prince at the post-mortem house and held discussions with them.
The killing had taken place in Handia on Tuesday evening, when motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire on Yadav.
He was taken to SRN Hospital for treatment but was declared dead there. Initial reports said police launched an investigation using CCTV footage and other evidence.
The investigation subsequently moved rapidly. Police said four people had been arrested in connection with the murder, including the village head’s husband Vinod Yadav and other alleged participants.
Two suspects, identified in police accounts as history-sheeter Jitendra alias Lalla Yadav and Nihal, were injured during an encounter and arrested.
Police said the case was linked to a personal or political dispute and that further investigation was underway.
The developments have added to tension in the Handia area, where the murder and subsequent highway protest have drawn considerable attention.

प्रयागराज: समाजवादी पार्टी नेता और पूर्व ग्राम प्रधान पवन यादव की हत्या के बाद बुधवार को प्रयागराज के हंडिया क्षेत्र में आक्रोश खुलकर सामने आया।
पोस्टमार्टम के बाद शव गांव पहुंचते ही बड़ी संख्या में ग्रामीण और समर्थक एकत्र हो गए। इसके बाद परिजन और समर्थक शव लेकर हंडिया ओवरब्रिज के पास हाईवे पर पहुंच गए और सड़क पर बैठकर यातायात रोक दिया।
हाईवे पर प्रदर्शन के कारण प्रयागराज-वाराणसी और वाराणसी-कानपुर मार्ग पर करीब दो घंटे तक आवागमन बाधित रहा। दोनों प्रमुख मार्गों पर वाहनों की लंबी कतारें लग गईं और यातायात व्यवस्था प्रभावित हुई।
प्रदर्शन के दौरान स्थिति उस समय तनावपूर्ण हो गई जब कुछ लोगों ने पुलिस की मौजूदगी में हाईवे डिवाइडर पर लगी रेलिंग को तोड़ना शुरू कर दिया।
प्रदर्शनकारी हत्या के आरोपियों के खिलाफ कड़ी कार्रवाई की मांग कर रहे थे। परिवार की ओर से आरोपियों के एनकाउंटर और बुलडोजर कार्रवाई की मांग भी उठाई गई।
परिजनों ने प्रशासन के सामने आर्थिक और अन्य सहायता से जुड़ी कई मांगें रखीं। इनमें परिवार को एक करोड़ रुपये की आर्थिक सहायता, मृतक के बेटे को सरकारी नौकरी, दो बीघा जमीन और शस्त्र लाइसेंस दिए जाने की मांग शामिल थी।
प्रदर्शनकारी इन मांगों पर प्रशासन से स्पष्ट आश्वासन चाहते थे।
जाम की जानकारी मिलते ही हंडिया और आसपास के कई थानों से पुलिस बल मौके पर पहुंच गया। अधिकारियों ने प्रदर्शनकारियों से सड़क खाली करने और स्थिति सामान्य करने की अपील की।
हंडिया की एसडीएम नंदिनी शाह और एसीपी शेषधर पांडेय ने मौके पर पहुंचकर परिजनों और प्रदर्शनकारियों से बातचीत की। काफी देर तक समझाने के बाद भी जब जाम नहीं खुला, तो पुलिस ने हल्का बल प्रयोग कर भीड़ को हटाया।
इस दौरान सपा से जुड़ी एक महिला नेता समेत कई लोगों को हिरासत में लिए जाने की जानकारी सामने आई।
प्रशासन की ओर से परिवार को भरोसा दिलाया गया कि उनकी मांगों को शासन तक पहुंचाया जाएगा और नियमानुसार कार्रवाई के लिए प्रयास किए जाएंगे।
अधिकारियों के आश्वासन के बाद प्रदर्शन समाप्त हुआ और परिजन शव को अंतिम संस्कार के लिए लेकर रवाना हो गए। इसके बाद हाईवे पर यातायात बहाल हो सका।
कड़ी सुरक्षा के बीच हुआ पोस्टमार्टम
इससे पहले बुधवार को पवन यादव के शव का पोस्टमार्टम कराया गया। किसी तरह की अप्रिय स्थिति से निपटने के लिए पोस्टमार्टम स्थल पर कई थानों की पुलिस तैनात रही।
वरिष्ठ पुलिस और प्रशासनिक अधिकारियों की मौजूदगी में पूरी प्रक्रिया कराई गई।
पोस्टमार्टम हाउस पर कई राजनीतिक नेता भी पहुंचे। पूर्व सांसद धर्मराज पटेल, एमएलसी मान सिंह और विधायक विजमा यादव समेत अन्य नेताओं ने परिवार के सदस्यों और पार्टी कार्यकर्ताओं से मुलाकात की।
परिजन और सपा कार्यकर्ता चाहते थे कि जिलाधिकारी स्वयं मौके पर आकर उनसे बातचीत करें। उनका कहना था कि वे अपनी सभी मांगें सीधे जिला प्रशासन के शीर्ष अधिकारी के सामने रखना चाहते हैं।
बाद में एडीसीपी सिटी जोगेंद्र लाल और हंडिया एसडीएम नंदिनी शाह ने पवन यादव के भाई अशोक तथा उनके बेटे प्रिंस यादव से मुलाकात कर बातचीत की।
पवन यादव की हत्या मंगलवार शाम हंडिया में हुई थी। बाइक सवार हमलावरों ने उन पर गोली चलाई थी। गंभीर रूप से घायल पवन यादव को एसआरएन अस्पताल ले जाया गया, जहां डॉक्टरों ने उन्हें मृत घोषित कर दिया।
घटना के बाद पुलिस ने सीसीटीवी फुटेज सहित अन्य साक्ष्यों के आधार पर जांच शुरू की थी।
इसके बाद पुलिस ने मामले में कई आरोपियों को गिरफ्तार किए जाने की जानकारी दी। पुलिस के मुताबिक, गिरफ्तार लोगों में प्रधानपति विनोद यादव और अन्य आरोपी शामिल हैं।
पुलिस ने यह भी बताया कि जितेंद्र उर्फ लल्ला यादव और निहाल नामक दो आरोपियों के साथ मुठभेड़ हुई, जिसमें दोनों घायल हुए और बाद में उन्हें गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया।
पुलिस ने प्रारंभिक जांच में हत्या के पीछे व्यक्तिगत और राजनीतिक रंजिश की बात कही है।
हत्याकांड के बाद हुए हाईवे जाम और प्रदर्शन ने हंडिया क्षेत्र में तनाव को और बढ़ा दिया है। पुलिस और प्रशासन स्थिति पर नजर बनाए हुए हैं।
