PM Modi, Netanyahu Discuss West Asia Crisis, Review India-Israel Strategic Partnership
Indian and Israeli leaders speak by phone amid continuing regional tensions; both sides agree to maintain close contact
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a telephone conversation on Thursday, discussing the latest developments in West Asia and taking stock of the expanding strategic relationship between India and Israel.
The call was initiated by Netanyahu, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
The two leaders reviewed cooperation between their countries across various areas and reiterated their intention to deepen the bilateral partnership.
Modi later said the conversation included an assessment of the current situation in West Asia as well as the progress made under the India-Israel Special Strategic Partnership.
The leaders also agreed to remain in regular contact as developments in the region continue to unfold.
Regional tensions remain unresolved
The conversation comes against the backdrop of a prolonged conflict in West Asia, with several interconnected disputes continuing to pose security and humanitarian challenges.
Among the immediate concerns is the future of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime passage linking the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman.
Iran said on Thursday that it was nearing completion of an arrangement with Oman concerning the waterway.
The strait has enormous significance for international energy markets. Before the current conflict began, a substantial share of the world’s petroleum and natural-gas shipments travelled through the narrow passage.
The security situation has also remained volatile elsewhere in the region.
Two Israeli soldiers were reportedly killed in Lebanon on Thursday, adding to the continuing tensions along Israel’s northern front.
Netanyahu rejects current Gaza proposal
The political dispute over the future of Gaza has also remained unresolved.
Netanyahu said Israel had not accepted a US-backed proposal concerning Gaza, despite assurances that Israeli forces would not be required to withdraw until Hamas had surrendered its weapons.
The Israeli prime minister said Washington believed its proposed framework could lead to the disarmament of Hamas and the removal of military capabilities from Gaza.
He indicated that Israel was studying the proposal but had submitted its own observations rather than accepting the draft in its existing form.
Hamas, meanwhile, has reiterated its willingness to engage with the framework announced by US President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace.
The proposed roadmap includes the transfer of Hamas’s weapons and an Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
Netanyahu has continued to emphasise his close relationship with Trump, describing the US president as one of Israel’s strongest allies.
At the same time, he has stressed that decisions affecting Israel’s existence and security cannot be determined through negotiations with outside parties.
The latest Modi-Netanyahu conversation comes as India continues to maintain diplomatic engagement with both the broader West Asian region and Israel while closely monitoring the conflict’s implications for regional stability, energy supplies and global trade.

नई दिल्ली: प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी और इजरायल के प्रधानमंत्री बेंजामिन नेतन्याहू ने गुरुवार को फोन पर बातचीत कर पश्चिम एशिया में जारी घटनाक्रम पर विचार-विमर्श किया और भारत-इजरायल विशेष रणनीतिक साझेदारी के तहत हो रही प्रगति की समीक्षा की।
प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय के अनुसार, बातचीत नेतन्याहू की ओर से की गई। दोनों नेताओं ने विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में द्विपक्षीय सहयोग की स्थिति पर चर्चा की और दोनों देशों के बीच रणनीतिक संबंधों को आगे बढ़ाने की प्रतिबद्धता दोहराई।
बातचीत के बाद प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने कहा कि दोनों पक्षों ने पश्चिम एशिया की मौजूदा स्थिति के साथ-साथ भारत-इजरायल विशेष रणनीतिक साझेदारी के विभिन्न पहलुओं में हुई प्रगति पर विचार किया।
क्षेत्र में तेजी से बदलते घटनाक्रम को देखते हुए दोनों नेताओं ने एक-दूसरे के संपर्क में बने रहने पर भी सहमति जताई।
पश्चिम एशिया में तनाव जारी
मोदी और नेतन्याहू के बीच बातचीत ऐसे समय हुई है जब पश्चिम एशिया में लंबे समय से चले आ रहे संघर्ष और उससे जुड़े कई विवाद अब भी समाधान की प्रतीक्षा कर रहे हैं।
ईरान और ओमान के बीच स्ट्रेट ऑफ होर्मुज से संबंधित एक समझौते को लेकर भी गुरुवार को तेहरान की ओर से महत्वपूर्ण जानकारी सामने आई।
ईरान ने कहा कि जलमार्ग से संबंधित समझौते का मसौदा तैयार करने की प्रक्रिया अंतिम चरण में है।
फारस की खाड़ी और ओमान की खाड़ी के बीच स्थित होर्मुज जलडमरूमध्य दुनिया के सबसे महत्वपूर्ण ऊर्जा मार्गों में से एक है।
संघर्ष से पहले वैश्विक स्तर पर बड़ी मात्रा में कच्चे तेल और प्राकृतिक गैस की आवाजाही इसी समुद्री रास्ते से होती थी।
क्षेत्र में सैन्य तनाव भी बना हुआ है। लेबनान में गुरुवार को दो इजरायली सैनिकों के मारे जाने की खबर सामने आई, जिससे इजरायल के उत्तरी मोर्चे पर जारी तनाव की गंभीरता का संकेत मिलता है।
गाजा योजना पर इजरायल की सहमति नहीं
गाजा के भविष्य को लेकर अमेरिका समर्थित पहल पर भी इजरायल और हमास के बीच मतभेद कायम हैं।
नेतन्याहू ने कहा है कि इजरायल ने गाजा से संबंधित अमेरिकी प्रस्ताव को स्वीकार नहीं किया है।
उनके मुताबिक, अमेरिका की ओर से यह आश्वासन दिया गया था कि हमास के हथियार डालने तक इजरायली सेना की वापसी नहीं होगी।
इजरायली प्रधानमंत्री ने बताया कि अमेरिकी प्रशासन का मानना है कि प्रस्तावित व्यवस्था के जरिए हमास को निरस्त्र किया जा सकता है और गाजा को सैन्य क्षमता से मुक्त कराया जा सकता है।
नेतन्याहू के अनुसार, इजरायल प्रस्ताव का अध्ययन कर रहा है और उसने अपने सुझाव अमेरिकी पक्ष को भेजे हैं।
दूसरी ओर, हमास ने अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रंप के ‘बोर्ड ऑफ पीस’ की ओर से पिछले सप्ताह पेश किए गए रोडमैप के प्रति अपनी प्रतिबद्धता दोहराई है।
इस योजना में हमास के हथियार सौंपने और गाजा से इजरायली बलों की वापसी से जुड़े प्रावधान शामिल हैं।
नेतन्याहू ने अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति ट्रंप के साथ अपने करीबी संबंधों को भी रेखांकित किया है और उन्हें इजरायल का मजबूत मित्र बताया है।
साथ ही उन्होंने स्पष्ट किया है कि इजरायल के अस्तित्व और सुरक्षा से जुड़े मूलभूत मुद्दों पर कोई समझौता नहीं किया जा सकता।
मोदी और नेतन्याहू की बातचीत ऐसे समय हुई है जब भारत पश्चिम एशिया में बदलते घटनाक्रम पर करीबी नजर रखे हुए है।
क्षेत्र की अस्थिरता का असर ऊर्जा आपूर्ति, अंतरराष्ट्रीय व्यापार और व्यापक क्षेत्रीय सुरक्षा पर पड़ सकता है।
