Pratapgarh House Collapse: Six of Family, Including Two Children, Killed in UP After Heavy Rain
Six members of a family, including two children, died after an old house collapsed amid heavy rain in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh. One family member survived with injuries.

Pratapgarh: Six members of a family, including two young children, died after the roof of their home collapsed in the early hours of Thursday amid heavy rainfall in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district.
The disaster occurred at around 2 am in the Maholi locality.
The family members were asleep inside the house when the structure suddenly gave way, trapping them beneath the fallen material.
Those killed were identified as 62-year-old Pramod Srivastava, his wife Reeta, 56, their younger son Nitin, 24, Nitin’s wife Madhuri, 23, and Madhuri’s children Madhav, aged two, and 10-month-old Advik.
Aman, 29, Pramod’s elder son and Madhuri’s husband, was the only person to survive.
He had also been sleeping in the same room but was positioned away from the section that collapsed. He suffered injuries in the incident.
The emergency response began after Aman raised an alarm.
Neighbours reached the property and started clearing the wreckage in an attempt to reach those trapped underneath.
A fire service vehicle was subsequently sent to the location.
By the time rescuers succeeded in removing the debris, however, none of the six trapped family members could be saved.
Dilapidated house had stood for decades
Officials said the building was more than eight decades old and had deteriorated considerably over the years.
The heavy rainfall is believed to have contributed to the collapse, although officials will determine the exact circumstances.
Pratapgarh District Magistrate Abhishek Pandey visited the site along with other members of the administration following the incident.
Later in the day, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the administration to provide financial assistance to the victims’ families.
The district administration subsequently sanctioned compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the next of kin of each person who died.
Adityanath expressed his condolences to the bereaved family and wished for the recovery of the injured survivor.
The incident comes amid heavy rain activity in parts of Uttar Pradesh, raising fresh concerns over the safety of ageing and structurally weakened houses during periods of intense precipitation.

मृतकों में दो छोटे बच्चे भी शामिल हैं। हादसा गुरुवार तड़के करीब 2 बजे शहर के महोली इलाके में हुआ।
परिवार के सभी सदस्य मकान के भीतर सो रहे थे, तभी अचानक छत और ढांचे का हिस्सा भरभराकर नीचे आ गया। मलबे में छह लोग दब गए और उनकी जान चली गई।
मृतकों की पहचान परिवार के मुखिया 62 वर्षीय प्रमोद श्रीवास्तव, उनकी पत्नी 56 वर्षीय रीता, छोटे बेटे 24 वर्षीय नितिन, नितिन की पत्नी 23 वर्षीय माधुरी और उनके दो बच्चों के रूप में हुई है।
बच्चों में दो वर्षीय माधव और 10 महीने का अद्विक शामिल हैं।
प्रमोद के बड़े बेटे और माधुरी के पति 29 वर्षीय अमन इस हादसे में अकेले जीवित बचे। वह भी उसी कमरे में सो रहे थे, लेकिन कमरे के दूसरे हिस्से में होने के कारण मलबे की सीधी चपेट में आने से बच गए।
हालांकि, उन्हें चोटें आई हैं।
अमन की चीख-पुकार सुनकर आसपास रहने वाले लोग मौके पर पहुंचे।
स्थानीय लोगों ने मलबा हटाकर अंदर फंसे लोगों तक पहुंचने की कोशिश शुरू की। सूचना मिलने के बाद दमकल विभाग की टीम भी घटनास्थल पर पहुंची।
काफी प्रयास के बाद जब मलबा हटाया गया, तब तक उसके नीचे दबे परिवार के छह सदस्यों की मौत हो चुकी थी।
आठ दशक से अधिक पुराना था मकान
प्रशासनिक अधिकारियों के अनुसार, जिस भवन में परिवार रह रहा था वह 80 वर्ष से अधिक पुराना था और लंबे समय से जर्जर स्थिति में था। भारी बारिश के दौरान कमजोर ढांचे पर दबाव बढ़ने से यह हादसा हुआ।
घटना की जानकारी मिलने के बाद प्रतापगढ़ के जिलाधिकारी अभिषेक पांडेय अन्य अधिकारियों के साथ मौके पर पहुंचे और राहत एवं बचाव कार्य का जायजा लिया।
मुख्यमंत्री योगी आदित्यनाथ ने घटना पर दुख जताते हुए मृतकों के परिजनों के प्रति संवेदना व्यक्त की। उन्होंने प्रशासन को पीड़ित परिवार को आर्थिक सहायता उपलब्ध कराने के निर्देश भी दिए।
मुख्यमंत्री के निर्देश के बाद जिला प्रशासन ने प्रत्येक मृतक के निकटतम परिजन को चार लाख रुपये की अनुग्रह राशि देने की घोषणा की।
मुख्यमंत्री ने मृतकों की आत्मा की शांति की प्रार्थना की और हादसे में घायल अमन के शीघ्र स्वस्थ होने की कामना की।
घटना ने लगातार बारिश के दौरान पुराने और कमजोर मकानों में रहने वाले परिवारों की सुरक्षा को लेकर चिंता बढ़ा दी है।
प्रशासनिक स्तर पर ऐसे जर्जर भवनों की स्थिति की समीक्षा की आवश्यकता भी सामने आई है।
