Political Parties Shift Focus to Prayagraj as Battle for Uttar Pradesh’s Youth Vote Intensifies
With political activity gathering pace ahead of the upcoming elections, major political parties have turned their attention to Prayagraj in an effort to strengthen their connection with Uttar Pradesh’s youth.
Employment opportunities, competitive examinations and student-related concerns have emerged as the central issues around which parties are shaping their outreach campaigns.
While the Samajwadi Party (SP) has intensified its direct engagement with young voters, other parties are also stepping up efforts to expand their support base among the state’s youth.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which came to power in Uttar Pradesh after the 2017 Assembly elections, is highlighting its commitments to employment and recruitment.
The party has consistently maintained that it has worked to ensure greater transparency in government recruitment by acting against irregularities in examination processes.
At the same time, opposition parties continue to target the government over delays in recruitment and the conduct of competitive examinations.
The Samajwadi Party and the Congress have placed youth-related issues at the centre of their political campaigns.
Both parties have repeatedly accused the state government of failing to provide adequate employment opportunities and of mishandling recruitment examinations.
As part of its outreach, Congress has announced that its state in-charge, Avinash Pandey, will visit Prayagraj on July 19 to interact with students. Earlier, Congress National General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi was also scheduled to visit the city, but her programme was later postponed.
The Samajwadi Party has also sharpened its focus on student politics. During his visit to Prayagraj, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav is expected to raise issues related to government recruitment, competitive examinations and employment while addressing students and young aspirants.
The party believes these subjects will remain significant in the state’s political discourse.
On the other hand, the BJP and its youth wing, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), have begun assigning key organisational responsibilities to young leaders from Prayagraj, signalling the importance the party attaches to the region.
Former Allahabad University Students’ Union president Rohit Mishra has been appointed as the BJP’s Regional Minister, a move being viewed as part of the party’s broader strategy to strengthen its youth connect.
In another significant organisational decision, BJP leader Dr Kartiki Agarwal has been appointed as the party’s state vice-president.
Political observers believe the appointment also sends a message that the BJP is giving greater representation to leaders from Prayagraj within its state leadership.
Prayagraj is considered politically significant because it has one of the highest concentrations of competitive examination aspirants in Uttar Pradesh.
Thousands of students from across the state live in the city to prepare for government jobs and other examinations, making young voters an influential segment that every major political party is keen to reach.

आगामी चुनावों की तैयारियों के बीच प्रदेश की प्रमुख राजनीतिक पार्टियों ने उत्तर प्रदेश के युवाओं तक अपनी पहुंच मजबूत करने के लिए प्रयागराज को अहम केंद्र बना लिया है।
रोजगार, प्रतियोगी परीक्षाएं और छात्र हितों से जुड़े मुद्दे राजनीतिक रणनीति के केंद्र में आ गए हैं। समाजवादी पार्टी जहां युवाओं से सीधे संवाद बढ़ाने में जुटी है, वहीं अन्य दल भी इस वर्ग में अपनी पकड़ मजबूत करने के प्रयास तेज कर रहे हैं।
वर्ष 2017 के विधानसभा चुनाव के बाद उत्तर प्रदेश की सत्ता संभालने वाली भारतीय जनता पार्टी अपने रोजगार और भर्ती संबंधी दावों को प्रमुखता से सामने रख रही है।
पार्टी का कहना है कि भर्ती परीक्षाओं में पारदर्शिता सुनिश्चित करने और अनियमितताओं पर कार्रवाई करने के लिए लगातार कदम उठाए गए हैं। दूसरी ओर विपक्ष भर्ती प्रक्रिया में देरी और प्रतियोगी परीक्षाओं के संचालन को लेकर सरकार को लगातार घेर रहा है।
समाजवादी पार्टी और कांग्रेस ने भी युवाओं से जुड़े मुद्दों को अपने अभियान का प्रमुख आधार बनाया है। दोनों दल राज्य सरकार पर रोजगार उपलब्ध कराने में विफल रहने और भर्ती परीक्षाओं के बेहतर संचालन में कमी का आरोप लगा रहे हैं।
इसी क्रम में कांग्रेस के प्रदेश प्रभारी अविनाश पांडे 19 जुलाई को प्रयागराज पहुंचकर छात्रों से संवाद करेंगे।
इससे पहले कांग्रेस की राष्ट्रीय महासचिव प्रियंका गांधी का भी शहर आने का कार्यक्रम प्रस्तावित था, जिसे बाद में स्थगित कर दिया गया।
समाजवादी पार्टी भी छात्र राजनीति और प्रतियोगी परीक्षाओं के मुद्दों पर अपनी सक्रियता बढ़ा रही है। पार्टी अध्यक्ष अखिलेश यादव के प्रयागराज दौरे के दौरान भर्ती परीक्षाओं, रोजगार और युवाओं से जुड़े विषयों को प्रमुखता से उठाने की संभावना है।
पार्टी का मानना है कि यही मुद्दे आने वाले समय में प्रदेश की राजनीति में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाएंगे।
दूसरी ओर भाजपा और उसका युवा संगठन भारतीय जनता युवा मोर्चा (भाजयुमो) प्रयागराज के युवा नेताओं को संगठन में महत्वपूर्ण जिम्मेदारियां देकर युवाओं तक अपनी पहुंच मजबूत करने का प्रयास कर रहे हैं।
इलाहाबाद विश्वविद्यालय छात्रसंघ के पूर्व अध्यक्ष रोहित मिश्रा को भाजपा का प्रदेश मंत्री बनाया गया है, जिसे संगठन की युवा रणनीति का अहम हिस्सा माना जा रहा है।
संगठनात्मक विस्तार के तहत भाजपा ने प्रयागराज की नेता डॉ. कार्तिकी अग्रवाल को प्रदेश उपाध्यक्ष की जिम्मेदारी भी सौंपी है। राजनीतिक जानकारों का मानना है कि इस फैसले के जरिए पार्टी ने प्रदेश नेतृत्व में प्रयागराज की भागीदारी को भी मजबूत करने का संदेश दिया है।
राजनीतिक दृष्टि से प्रयागराज का महत्व इसलिए भी बढ़ जाता है क्योंकि यहां उत्तर प्रदेश के सबसे अधिक प्रतियोगी परीक्षा अभ्यर्थी रहते हैं। सरकारी नौकरियों और विभिन्न प्रतियोगी परीक्षाओं की तैयारी के लिए प्रदेशभर से हजारों छात्र शहर में निवास करते हैं। यही वजह है कि सभी प्रमुख राजनीतिक दल युवाओं के इस बड़े वर्ग को अपने पक्ष में करने के लिए लगातार सक्रिय नजर आ रहे हैं।
