Prayagraj Clash Case: Seven Women Among 21 Arrested After Attack on Police Team in Nawabganj
A major police operation was carried out in Prayagraj’s Nawabganj area after a violent attack on a police team investigating a recent criminal case.
Acting against the main accused, Mohammed Saleem, police arrested several members of his family and other suspects.
The crackdown followed Saturday night’s incident in which officers were allegedly assaulted while attempting to conduct a raid.
The police team had reached Yadaveshi Inter College locality to arrest the accused in connection with the dispute.
However, officials claimed they faced resistance from the family members and their associates during the operation.
Following the confrontation, police registered a fresh case and launched an extensive search for those involved.
During the overnight action, police arrested 21 people, including seven women and 14 men.
All those detained were produced before the court on Sunday and later sent to judicial custody. Search operations are continuing to trace the remaining accused who are still absconding.
Senior officers remained stationed in Nawabganj throughout Sunday to monitor the law and order situation.
Additional police personnel were deployed in the locality to prevent any further tension and ensure peace in the area.
Investigators said the dispute is linked to a case involving allegations of grabbing a plot of land.
Officials stated that the criminal history of the prime accused, Mohammed Saleem, was verified from police records before action was initiated.
The investigation into the matter was reportedly conducted under the supervision of Prayagraj Ganga Nagar Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rajesh Yadav.
Police sources said the controversy escalated after the accused allegedly refused to prepare the required sale deed despite an agreement relating to the disputed property.
The complainant’s family later approached the police, following which legal proceedings were initiated.
Nawabganj Station House Officer Akash Kumar remained present at the spot during the operation.
He was accompanied by a woman Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and several male and female police personnel, who supervised the arrests and maintained security in the area.

जांच के सिलसिले में पुलिस टीम यादवेशी इंटरमीडिएट कॉलेज के पास स्थित इलाके में दबिश देने पहुंची थी। अधिकारियों के अनुसार, कार्रवाई के दौरान आरोपी पक्ष और उनके समर्थकों ने विरोध किया, जिसके बाद स्थिति तनावपूर्ण हो गई। इस घटनाक्रम के बाद पुलिस ने नया मुकदमा दर्ज कर आरोपियों की तलाश तेज कर दी।
रातभर चले अभियान में पुलिस ने 21 लोगों को गिरफ्तार किया, जिनमें सात महिलाएं और 14 पुरुष शामिल हैं। सभी आरोपियों को रविवार को अदालत में पेश किया गया, जहां से उन्हें न्यायिक हिरासत में भेज दिया गया। पुलिस अन्य फरार आरोपियों की तलाश में लगातार छापेमारी कर रही है।
रविवार को पूरे दिन वरिष्ठ पुलिस अधिकारी नवाबगंज में डटे रहे और हालात पर नजर बनाए रखी। किसी भी अप्रिय स्थिति से बचने के लिए क्षेत्र में अतिरिक्त पुलिस बल की तैनाती की गई, ताकि शांति और कानून-व्यवस्था बनी रहे।
पुलिस जांच के अनुसार, पूरा विवाद जमीन पर कब्जे के आरोपों से जुड़े मामले को लेकर शुरू हुआ था। अधिकारियों ने बताया कि कार्रवाई से पहले मुख्य आरोपी मोहम्मद सलीम का आपराधिक रिकॉर्ड खंगाला गया। मामले की जांच प्रयागराज गंगानगर के सहायक पुलिस आयुक्त (एसीपी) राजेश यादव की निगरानी में की गई।
पुलिस का कहना है कि विवादित भूमि से जुड़े समझौते के बावजूद आरोपियों ने कथित तौर पर बिक्री विलेख (बैनामा) तैयार नहीं कराया, जिसके बाद शिकायतकर्ता पक्ष ने पुलिस से मदद मांगी। शिकायत मिलने पर पुलिस ने कानूनी कार्रवाई शुरू की।
कार्रवाई के दौरान नवाबगंज थाना प्रभारी आकाश कुमार स्वयं मौके पर मौजूद रहे। उनके साथ एक महिला उप पुलिस अधीक्षक (डीएसपी) तथा कई महिला और पुरुष पुलिसकर्मी भी तैनात रहे, जिन्होंने पूरे अभियान की निगरानी करते हुए सुरक्षा व्यवस्था संभाली।
