Prateek Yadav Dies at 38 in Lucknow, Sudden Death of Mulayam Singh Yadav’s Son Sparks Questions

Prateek Yadav, the younger son of late Samajwadi Party founder and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, passed away in Lucknow early Tuesday morning under circumstances that remain unclear.

He was 38 years old.

Prateek was taken to Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Civil Hospital at around 5.30 am, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Officials said the exact cause of death has not yet been confirmed, and his body has been sent for postmortem examination.

According to sources, Prateek reportedly collapsed at his residence around 4.30 am. Family members immediately rushed him to the hospital, but doctors were unable to save him.

So far, neither the Lucknow Police nor hospital authorities have issued an official statement regarding the cause of death, leading to growing speculation surrounding the sudden incident.

Often referred to in political circles as “Netaji ka chhota beta,” Prateek largely stayed away from frontline politics, unlike his half-brother Akhilesh Yadav.

Instead, he maintained a relatively private life and became known for his interest in fitness and wellness. He also operated a gym in Lucknow.

Friends and close associates also knew him for his passion for luxury sports cars and dogs, interests he occasionally showcased on social media.

Reacting to the news, Akhilesh Yadav expressed grief in a post on X, writing,

“The demise of Shri Prateek Yadav ji is extremely heartbreaking. May God grant peace to the departed soul. Humble tribute.”

Prateek is survived by his wife, Aparna Yadav, a BJP leader and member of the Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission, along with their two daughters.

In recent months, Prateek had drawn public attention after posting cryptic messages on social media that hinted at differences with Aparna Yadav.

The posts fuelled intense speculation in political and social circles. However, the couple later shared photographs and videos with their daughters, indicating that relations between them had improved.

Sources also recalled that Prateek had reportedly been hospitalised in November last year, though details regarding his health condition were never publicly disclosed.

His death comes nearly four years after the passing of his mother, Sadhana Gupta, who died in 2022.

Following the news, Akhilesh Yadav and his wife, MP Dimple Yadav, cancelled all political and public programmes scheduled for the day.

The unexpected death of Prateek Yadav, despite his low-profile public life, has generated widespread curiosity and discussion across Uttar Pradesh, with many now waiting for the postmortem findings to clarify the circumstances surrounding his death.
