Prayagraj Building Accident: Balcony of Dilapidated House Collapses in Mutthiganj, Two Injured
Prayagraj: Two people sustained injuries after the balcony of an old residential building suddenly collapsed in the Mutthiganj area of Prayagraj on Saturday morning.
The incident triggered panic in the neighbourhood as debris crashed onto the street below.
According to residents, the owner of the house and one of his associates were sitting beneath the balcony when the structure gave way without warning.
A large portion of the balcony fell directly onto them, leaving both men injured.
Witnesses rushed to the scene immediately after hearing a loud crashing sound. Residents and passersby worked together to remove the injured men from the rubble before arranging medical assistance.
The injured have been identified as Suresh Chandra Gupta, the owner of the building, and his associate Rajesh Kumar Jayaswal. The two were reportedly engaged in conversation near the building at around 10:30 a.m. when the accident occurred.
Local people informed emergency services and the municipal authorities soon after the collapse.
A team from the municipal corporation reached the spot and began clearing the debris to prevent any further danger to pedestrians and nearby residents.
Both injured men were taken to a hospital for treatment. Doctors stated that Suresh Chandra Gupta suffered a head injury, while Rajesh Kumar Jayaswal sustained injuries to his legs and other parts of his body. Their condition is reported to be stable.
Residents of the area said the building was several decades old and had shown visible signs of deterioration.
According to locals, the structure was approximately 50 years old, raising concerns about the condition of other ageing buildings in the locality.
Municipal officials have initiated an assessment of the property and are expected to examine whether the building has become structurally unsafe.
The incident has once again highlighted the need for regular inspections and maintenance of old structures in densely populated urban areas.
