Prayagraj Road Revamp: 171 Roads to Be Rebuilt at a Cost of ₹855 Crore

Prayagraj: The condition of roads across Prayagraj is set to improve significantly, with the state government approving an ambitious infrastructure programme for the reconstruction and repair of 171 roads across the district.

The project, estimated to cost around ₹855 crore, is expected to begin once the monsoon season ends.

Survey Identifies Damaged Roads Across the District

A comprehensive survey conducted before the onset of the monsoon identified extensive road damage in several parts of the district.

Based on the findings, the government has instructed concerned departments to prepare detailed proposals for repairing and rebuilding the affected stretches.

Officials noted that roads often deteriorate during the rainy season, but this year a district-wide assessment was carried out in advance to ensure quicker restoration work after the rains.

The exercise covered both urban and rural areas, with special attention given to roads that are heavily used by commuters.

Rural Areas to Receive Major Infrastructure Boost

Many of the damaged roads selected for reconstruction are located in rural regions. Several routes connecting villages to nearby towns and markets have been included in the plan. Areas such as Jasra, Koraon, Handia, Soraon, Phulpur, Karchhana, Meja, Uruwa, Bahariya and Shankargarh are among those expected to benefit from the initiative.

In addition to road repairs, approximately 35 kilometres of new roads have also been proposed under the development programme.

New Roads to Be Built Alongside Repairs

Authorities have begun identifying locations where entirely new roads are required. Construction on these routes will commence after the monsoon season. Officials have expressed confidence that work will start promptly once weather conditions become favourable.

A senior Public Works Department (PWD) official said that instructions have already been issued to complete technical assessments and prepare estimates so that construction activities can begin without delay.

Government Approves Proposals Submitted by Public Representatives

The road development plan gained momentum after legislators and public representatives submitted proposals highlighting infrastructure needs in their respective constituencies.

Following a review, the state government approved the projects and directed departments to proceed with implementation.

As part of a broader vision for rapid development, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had asked elected representatives to identify roads requiring urgent reconstruction and submit proposals worth up to ₹5 crore each.

The objective was to improve connectivity and accelerate development in areas where infrastructure had lagged.

171 Roads Included in the Final Plan

According to officials, proposals received from 12 legislators in Prayagraj district, along with recommendations from Members of Parliament, have been consolidated into a final list covering 171 roads.

The approved routes include both district and rural roads. While reconstruction work on many stretches will begin after the rains, some projects involve the construction of entirely new road links to improve accessibility for residents.

Separate Development Initiative for Legislators

Apart from the road reconstruction programme, the state government has also launched a separate initiative under which legislators can recommend development works in their constituencies.

Officials said the scheme is designed to ensure that local infrastructure requirements are addressed more effectively and that development reaches every part of the state promptly.

The large-scale road improvement project is expected to enhance connectivity, reduce travel difficulties and provide a much-needed boost to economic and social activity across Prayagraj and its surrounding rural areas.
